Saab Lofton
Hey there -- you unprotected Saab Lofton recently. Any chance you could reprotect it? this was the very next edit :P It's still a tendentious subject, which I'm trying to resolve, but in the meantime the article has been the target of a variety of hate-speech IPs (which the subject of the article is rather upset about). Thanks, -- phoebe / (talk to me) 03:14, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hehehe... I never unprotected it (I don't have the rights, I'm not an admin), the placement of a {{semiprot}} template does not magically semi-protect the article. The protection must have expired, because when I edited the article, it did not show up with a message saying that it was currently semi'ed. So I removed the tag. To request the article be re-protected, make a request at WP:RFPP. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 03:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Aha! I just saw that you were the last edit and didn't read the history carefully. Thanks! -- phoebe / (talk to me) 03:22, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Quick Question
Hey, I see you are a fellow HAU and I'm wondering if you can help me with a coding issue. I've been trying to figure it out for like fifteen minutes and it's driving me batty. I'm designing a newsletter for a WikiProject I belong to, you can see it here: User:L'Aquatique/Sandbox. Now, as you can see, the template syntax for the "ad" is outside of the |} that is supposed to close out the engulfing blueness of doom. But it keeps rendering so that the ad is inside! I actually like the way it looks, but I know if I leave it like this some 200 people are going to be pissed off at me because the rest of their talk page will be blue. Please help me! L'Aquatique[review] 03:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed - But you seriously should use all-wikicode instead of mixed wikicode/HTML, it makes it far easier to understand... Calvin 1998 (t-c) 03:39, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ahh!! Thank God, I was going to lose sleep over that! About the mixed coding, you're right I should, but I am very opportunistic and if I see a design I like, I snatch it up and use it myself (hey, it's all free here!) which is why it's sort of mixed. Any suggestions on how to wikicodify this would be greatly appreciated, but if you're busy it's really not a big deal. I'll sort it out some day! Thanks again- L'Aquatique[review] 03:41, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome! Anyhow, to convert HTML → wikicode, replace <table> with {|, <tr> with |-, and so on. Formatting, though, is trickier, because you have to convert the styles to inline-CSS. I don't really have time right now either... :( Calvin 1998 (t-c) 04:03, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

<RELEVANT TITLE>
Hello Calvin. I believe you incorrectly reverted [<THE URL OF THE DIFF I REVERTED> this edit]. <OPTIONAL REASON>. 24.125.223.62 (talk) 20:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC) He was clearly a colored person, why did you revert the proper use of the word 'nigger'?
- The use of that word in an encyclopedia such as this one is considered inappropriate. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 20:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Isn't it better than 'photographer'? Perhaps you're only spreading hate by bashing on "niggers".
How immature.
- No, I do think that 'photographer' is more appropriate and mature than the use of 'nigger'. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 21:02, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Obviously I was right... you're simply spreading hate.
Just don't revert my edit this time, I have little time for a child's emotions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.125.223.62 (talk) 21:04, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, you have plenty of time, now that you're blocked. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 21:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Question about Huggle
Hello Calvin, you have been incredibly active in regards to this great program just wondering whether i can ask you does Huggle recognise past warnings that have been removed by the user? Say you add a level 1 warning at 12:00 and then the user deletes this, if you issue another one 1 minute later will it go back to the level 1 or do what i hope it does and go straight to level 2? Thanks Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 11:05, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. The relevant history revisions have to be deleted or oversighted to make huggle not see them. But I do think there's a time limit on how far back Huggle will go look for warnings... but I'm not sure. But to answer your question, yes, it'll go to level 2. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 13:58, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Section 8, merging
Hi, Calvin - my apologies for disturbing you again, but I thought you might be interested in this. It's a merger proposal from Smith Jones for Section 8 to be merged into the LEP article. IceUnshattered (talk) 21:17, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Don't be sorry: that's what talk pages are for... Anyhow, I went and chimed in --> but next time, you might want to post at WT:FOWL so the entire WikiProject can see it. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 21:26, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
WP:HAU, Status, and you!
As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible) system - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Nice going Xenocidic — 2-3 weeks late :) Calvin 1998 (t-c) 23:02, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, the delay was mostly because we were waiting for Qui to become compatible with Internet Explorer. Useight (talk) 00:17, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Help desk legal advice
Hey Calvin, thanks for working over at the help desk. I noticed that you directed someone looking for legal advice over to the Ref Desk. I'm sure you saw the answer that the next person gave, but I wanted to remind you just for future reference that we actually can't give legal advice, per our legal disclaimer. I've actually seen questions like that one fairly often, though I can't imagine for the life of me how people get to our help desk for that purpose, or why they ask us. Anyway, keep up the good work! GlassCobra 15:09, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- :P I was in too much of a rush to notice the legal bit. :( oh well, no harm done... Calvin 1998 (t-c) 19:38, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
WP:OP
Just a question, I notice that you are rather active on that page. How do you test IP's to see if they're open proxies? I have no idea how to do it myself :). Steve Crossin (contact) 22:27, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, first of all, the block log for that IP said it was "open" on port 3128. So you go into your proxy settings (Tools > Options > Advanced > Network on Firefox) and enter the IP and port #. Then I attempted to go to www.google.com (it loads faster than most websites). In this case, port 3128 didn't work (strangely), so I went in and tried 8080 - another common one for proxies. It just happened to work. Usually I would run a Nmap portscan beforehand to limit the number of ports I have to manually check, but I don't have access to a copy right now. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 22:31, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, how interesting. I'll keep a note of that in future. I never thought of doing it that way :> Steve Crossin (contact) 22:40, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Note, though, that I'm technically not qualified to check IPs there, as I'm not on the list of verified checkers. So you might want to ask someone else on the list :) Calvin 1998 (t-c) 22:42, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks

Question re edittools/edit toolbox
Hello Calvin- First, sorry to victimize you out of the blue with my questions; from your post at Wikipedia:Help_desk#How_do_I_include_the_edit_box.3F, I get the impression you might be able to either answer them or advise me regarding the best place to pose them (e.g. MediaWiki_talk:Edittools, Wikipedia:Help_desk).
- 1) Is the box of wiki markup tools that appears below the edit summary field during an edit session officially called edittools? (Whatever it is called, part of my question here is how to suggest that it be named and defined on pages like Wikitext and Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page.
- 2)Whatever this set of tools (toolbox, edit toolbox?) is called, is there a way for a user to customize it in the user preferences?
These questions come out of a quest I began to find out if I can create a shortcut for inserting the {{SharedIP}} tags onto anonymous talk pages. If there's a better approach overall, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance for your help. -Eric talk 17:09, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- 1.) Yes, they're called edittools, edit tools, edit-tools, etc. 2.) You probably can change it using some complicated JavaScript in Special:Mypage/monobook.js, but I can't write JavaScript very well, so I can't help you there. Try the help desk... if you want to mass-add {{SharedIP}} and you already know the IP's you need to add the template to, try using AWB. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 22:13, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! -Eric talk 03:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
