Arbitration request on Kven-users
editDear Editor, since you have been involved in editing the Kven, Kven language, or Kvens of the past articles in the last months, articles that have been troubled by peristent POV-pushing, your name is listed in the Request for Arbitration on this matter. You can make a statement here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Kven-users. Best regards, Fred-Chess 16:15, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Hello,
An Arbitration case involving you has been opened: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Kven. Sami articles
editIt would be a good idea. Should we start a project page somewhere? Do you happen to know Norwegian (either one) well enough to translate articles out of it? I only have a thin Norwegian-Swedish dictionary from the turn of the century and my Norwegian skills are mainly related to Sámi-related things, which doesn't help me translate the more "normal" words in an article :) And yeah, I much prefer Sámi to Sami, but I gave up trying to change them all. Usually I just use Sámi and then make a lot of redirects. -Yupik 19:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know if a project page is yet needed (but I would join it if you or someone else created it). The first priority should anyway be to clean up and improve the Sami people article. I think we may save some work by using this article as a "project page" by adding redlinks to articles we think are important. I speak Norwegian fluently so I can translate articles from the Norwegian wikipedias.Labongo 09:37, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ah that would be absolutely wonderful if you would translate them. I might have some time in the next couple of weeks to start cleaning up the Sami people article, but I also have another couple of articles that are ahead of it in line that I promised people in the beginning of the summer that I would look at. -Yupik 21:52, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've started making a list of the pages that should be done. Please feel free to add your own suggestions on the page (and even to reorder the existing ones as the layout is not altogether too pleasing). I think that we should also try and get the same articles into the other wikis at the same time. I can add them to the Finnish wiki. Do you know both Bokmål and Nynorsk? I'll try and also add them into the Sámi wikipedia as I can. Thanks for all your help! -Yupik 21:39, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will try to add articles to the list. I am primarily interested in the English wikipedia, and with the amount of work to be done here I don't have the time for the other wikipedias.Labongo 21:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have also started a discussion in Talk:Sami people about how that article should be reorganized and improved. Feel free to add a link to your to do list there.Labongo 21:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Kildin Sámi
editI've started translating the Kildin Sámi articles. If you have time to help, I'd appreciate it :) I've asked Trondtr for clarification on some of the points that I'm unclear about with the article, so I'm also waiting for his response. I'll try to get a Norwegian dictionary tomorrow; it would help a lot :D Thanks again for taking part in the project! -Yupik 22:57, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, I will try to help whenever I have the time.Labongo 23:20, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! And don't worry that this is going to be some "intense" project, as I'm pretty busy until the end of the year with school and work. So I'll basically be translating when I'm bored of doing anything else :D -Yupik 12:59, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. I also work when ever I have the time. Also, doing a quick translation where I don't worry about the quality of the resulting english is quite efficient. Labongo 07:04, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- The Kildin Sami Orthography now only has a partial sentence left untranslated (which I've put in bold), but I have no clue as to what it's trying to say. If you find some time to help out with that sentence, I'd be grateful. Thanks :) -Yupik 21:11, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- A gazillion thanks! :) -Yupik 10:04, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Inuit mythology
editJust to let you know that the book is being spammed. It was published (possibly a vanity press) in June 2007 and has not been used to source any article that it's inserted into. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 17:38, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I suspected that it was spam, but was not sure since I have not been involved in writing these articles. I think I managed to remove all references.Labongo 11:00, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi! Can you please add a link to the news article where Keskitalo steps down? What was the problem anyways? I understood that it was because of her upcoming maternity leave? Thanks! -Yupik 21:45, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing the missing reference. Her party (Norwegian Sami Association) decided that they could not continue their cooperation with the vice-presidents one-man party, and hence they no longer have the majority in the parliament. So a new coalition has to be formed where Keskitalo may or may not be the president. For readers to understand all this the Sami Parliament of Norway article needs to be expanded with information about how the parliament is organized (is on my TODO list).Labongo 08:27, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Add it to my to do list, too. Sooner or later these will get done :D Thanks for adding the reference BTW! -Yupik 19:46, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Hello, I have done cleaning in this article you marked. I cited all you mentioned, and removed one citing as it seems impossible to cite; while the statement may be factual, I am not sure it is relevant. In my writing on the talk page is my intention to follow up on this paragraph, to further reinforce the San Bushmen experience as an example of indigenous, or native, turmoil. Cheers, John van v 17:35, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Excellent IPv6 comment
editThank you, thank you. I've worked in the IETF since before IPv6 was selected, but no one ever explained, as well as you just did, the significance of the sparse address space with respect to routing. I tend to beat my head against the wall when people go on about how the address space is large enough to give a unique address to every insect, which was never the reason for 128 bits. Howard C. Berkowitz 18:28, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the praise. But all I did was re-order the already existing paragraphs (so I hereby forward your thanks to the original authors). I share your "headache", especially when the addresses are to be used for light bulbs.Labongo 18:39, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Internal protocol suite
editThanks for giving those RfC articles a look and an edit. Wiki104 appears to have gone away, taking his odd brand of English with him. While I can critique his usage and editing style, I'm on shaky ground in the technical bits, and simply reverting wasn't really practical. Acroterion (talk) 13:14, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. Altough Wiki104 probably made his edits in good faith, they unfortunantely only reduced the quality of the articles. Btw, thanks for the "talkpage notice" which I copied from your talkpage.Labongo 13:20, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- To answer your question about verdde. The verdde-system was (is?) a sort of trading system, where the reindeer herding Sami had one or more verdde who were typically farmers and could provide things like potatoes or sea fish, typically in exchange for reindeer meat. These were typically good friends, and it was not unusual to stay at the verdde while doing business in the area (or for the other way around). So I believe that friendship is not the right translation, but I cannot think of a better term. Labongo (talk) 12:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Reference missing
editYour contribution [[1]] refers to work of Aikio, but you did not give a complete reference. I have tried to find the correct book in databases, but failed. Could you please add a complete reference to the article? Best regards Ulner (talk) 23:26, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- I am sorry, but I did not write that paragraph but only moved it from the Sami people article. I did it since I found it hard to read and out of place in the Sami people article. I hope you or some other language expert can either simplify the text or remove the paragraph. Thanks. Labongo (talk) 10:34, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
editHello Labongo! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 99 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Northern Sami help needed
editHello, Labongo. My name is Maggie. I'm contacting you because we need some Northern Sami translators to help with the deployment of the new mw:VisualEditor on se.wikipedia. It would be great if we could get the User Guide and the User Interface translated before VisualEditor is deployed to users (to translate the User Interface, you need to start an account at translatewiki.net). More information on the translating work is available MediaWiki: Translation Central. If you are able to help in any way, can you please either reply on my talk page (or reply here and notify me), or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for reading! --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 21:03, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
