- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

editHello, I'm Edwardx. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 21:37, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- If you don't mention the article name, how would I know and fix it?? L5boat (talk) 10:53, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Full date of birth MUST be cited with a reliable source, see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. You cannot use the Forbes citation for this, when it is not in the source. Have had to revert. Edwardx (talk) 13:12, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- There are two Forbes links. The other mentions him as born 10 days after Indian independence in August 1947. L5boat (talk) 13:27, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. Then you need to use the correct one. And please maintain a consistent MDY date format. Edwardx (talk) 13:51, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Caste
editAccording to WP:CASTEID policy, we can only mention the caste of a living subject if they have self-identified it in an interview, tweet, etc. Sources mentioning caste, but in third person, for example the author of the article or somebody else, can't be used. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:08, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- For politicians, caste is a primary part of their identity. No politician would deny his/her caste. Entire Indian politics runs on caste. Digvijay Singh or Raja Singh all identity with their caste and regularly attend their caste meetings.
- You should look at the spirit of CasteID policy. It was primarily instituted because some people actively disassociate from their caste and would not want their caste to be mentioned in their bios. As mentioning caste for such people violates BLP, the CasteID policy came into being. However, that is not at all the case for politicians. Politicians actively associate and cater to their respective communities. Furthermore, one cannot understand the rise of leaders like Digvijay Singh or Raja Singh without understanding their community support. If you have actually bothered to check the sources cited, you would know that most of the cases where the community is mentioned are by political scientists and authors who comment on how caste is shaping the politics in their respective states or constituencies. L5boat (talk) 12:35, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- I checked the sources and there is no self-identification in those. Please don't contravene policies and consensuses of Wikipedia to which this articles are bound. The policy/consensus clearly states -
There is a clear consensus against including the caste of persons in biographies, if the caste doesn't have any impact on the person's life. And even in this case, there needs to be self-identification, which is reported by reliable sources per the biography of living people policy.
While, I agree that caste plays a major role in Indian politics, it is Wikipedia, not an Indian politics forum. Also, the representatives of many castes change their identities using suffixes like "-Rajput" or "-Thakor" for the sake of upward mobility and associate it with a more "successful caste", making it more unreliable. If you could find sources with self-identification, by all means add it. In many such cases, I was able to replace with sources conforming with the policies. Note that this criteria doesn't apply to biographies of dead individuals, for which a good RS would suffice. I remember restoring caste for such BIOs after their demise. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:11, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

Indic Script
editPlease do not add any Indic script, to any of our India related articles, as you did at Kushabhau Thakre, as this contravenes WP:NOINDICSCRIPT - Thank you - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:22, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

Film date template
editI commend you on creating new articles for older films. Could you please use Template:Film date as stated in Template:Infobox film? When you do not it places them in a maintenance category, Category:Pages using infobox film with nonstandard dates, needing correction. Thank you, Aspects (talk) 23:44, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay. L5boat (talk) 07:07, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
Film moves
editHey, L5boat. It’s good that you’ve been doing some work on old Telugu film titles. However, please be careful while making bold moves, especially those which are in not in line with WP:NCFILMDAB.
For example, this move is problematic because:
1. Incorrect case: it should be Ramadasu (1964 film), not Ramadasu (1964 Film). Disambiguation should always be lower case, ie, film. If you are facing any technical issue, please request at WP:RM/TR or seek guidance, rather than moving to incorrect titles.
2. Ramadasu is currently link to disambiguation page. The links related to old film should be linked again to the new title, otherwise you are leaving large amounts of work to disambiguate to other editors.
Please exercise caution while making such moves and feel free to ask any questions!
Thanks and Regards — Ab207 (talk) 14:16, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
