Orphaned fair use image (Image:Universal 75th logo 720x390.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Universal 75th logo 720x390.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Logos in List of Universal Pictures films

edit

Per Wikipedia:Non-free content, "The use of non-free media in lists, galleries, and navigational or user interface elements are normally regarded as decorative." Personally, I find the evolution of the logo interesting, but the images are owned by Universal, not us, so we can only use them for limited purposes. —tregoweth (talk) 05:58, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The logos don't actually illustrate anything in the article, and are not the subject of the article; therefore, including them doesn't qualify as fair use. In NBC logos, for example, the logos are OK because the article is about the logos. —tregoweth (talk) 08:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Michael W. Smith may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 18:28, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

So here's what happened. You added the link with a missing closing parenthesis. I fixed the link and knew that it pointed to a redirect, but forgot to fix that last night. I just fixed that. There's no need to add the artist's name to the article title as it's the only album of that name. There is a different EP and it has the correct title already. Notice re: fringe edits

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in pseudoscience and fringe science. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

--Neutralitytalk 17:43, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please read the standardized template above. Fringe publications (like this one) don't belong in Wikipedia articles, whether as references or as "further reading," except perhaps on articles on fringe theories themselves. This is especially true for sources that are both fringe and self-published, like the one in the diff above. Neutralitytalk 17:43, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
