Speedy deletion nomination of Liver Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells

Mononuclear phagocyte system

Hello Kjetil, isn't "Reticuloendothelial system" the older name for "Mononuclear phagocyte system"? It wasn't clear why the old name was restored. – Þjarkur (talk) 14:04, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you for asking. Actually both names are a bit old, RES from 1924 and MPS from late sixties. However, the way RES was originally defined was by injecting dyes into animals and then analyse where in the body it was found. It was found in a network of cells in many tissues. In the sixties the researchers believed it was only macrophages that fagocytosed dyes (and other waste molecules) from the circulation. So they renamed RES too MPS. But later studies in the eighties have confirmed that it is not only macrophages that does this job, also endothelial cells remove dyes and molecules from the circulation. But whereas macrophages remove dyes etc by phagocytosis, the endothelial cells use a pinocytosis/clathrin-mediated endocytosis. These are two different ways to remove dyes and particles. In the new RES article, I refer to a publication from 1998 that confirm that the cell types that Aschoff described in 1924, when he defined RES, was not only macrophages of the MPS, but ALSO endothelial cells. Therefore I believe that MPS cannot replace the original RES. We are working on the article now and try to make it easier to understand Kjetilhe (talk) 11:26, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for writing this article about liver sinusoidal endothelial cells! I'm always keen to see more cell biology content on Wikipedia. However, I notice that you have added an image commisioned by D’Liver AS, which I understand from its website to be a Norwegian biotech company with commercial interests in liver biology. If you work for this company or have any association with it, or any other commercial association with liver biology-related businesses, you must disclose this immediately. I also think you will be interested in reading the guide to editing Wikipedia for expert editors, which explains the similarities and differences between academic writing and editing Wikipedia. For example, Wikipedia articles should explain everything clearly, so where a dispute between topic experts exists, Wikipedia should explain that the dispute exists and why, even if you yourself take one side over the other.
