Hello Kataariveera, it is suggested to not add any kind of information from improper (or atleast unreliable according wikipedia's policy) sites such as Tollywood.net, Sacnlik.com, Koimoi, etc. As you asked for the link, you can go to the discussion page of Indian cinema task force. I understand that only saclink and Koimoi were only cited as unrelaible over there. If you wish to add Tollywood.net as one of the reliable sources, then you can start a discusion regarding that. Can you translate this Does it mean something like: "Naveen Kumar wrote the song "Chaliyagtide", which reused the title theme of Aashiqui 2". This information is from Bombay Mittai (2015 film)#Soundtrack from this source. DareshMohan (talk) 06:21, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Partially right - exact translation would be - " The song "Chaliyaagtide" written by Naveen Kumar re-uses the tune of the title track of Aashiqui 2"..

It is true that the song in Bombay Mithai parodies the " Kyukni tum hi ho" sequence and hence borrowed/ copied that tune Kataariveera (talk) 14:21, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

What does "Naanu Nanna Kanasu" mean is it "I am my dream"? DareshMohan (talk) 23:56, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Literal translation - "Naanu" - I/Me/Myself ; "Nanna Kanasu" - " My Dream". So, it can be considered as " Me & My Dream" or " I & My Dream" - whichever is grammatically more correct. However, please do note that the lead character's daughter's name is also Kanasu ( so the title is actually meant to denote the daughter as well as "dream" - so "Kanasu" is used in the title to mean both).. The original "Abhiyum Naanum" means " Abhi & I" ( Abhi is daughter's name) ... So " Naanu Nanna Kanasu" can be " I & my dream" as well as " Me & my daughter Kanasu"...

Have you seen this movie - Kasu Iddone Basu (1). Is Jaggesh's character named "Basu"? DareshMohan (talk) 17:31, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

No.. the word "Basu" in the title doesn't represent a name ( like in Anurag Basu) rather it's pronounced as 'Baasu' which is the Kannada slang for "Boss" ( Boss became "Boss u" who should have been written as "Baasu" but eventually "Basu" was used). "Kaasu" means "money". "Kaasu Iddone Basu" means "Guy with money is the Boss". If "Basu" is confusing, using the spelling "Baasu" may also be appropriate but in any case it is not the character name. Of course.. I would suggest you to Watch those on Amazon - for the recent ones and those those on YouTube ( preferably those with subtitles ). If your internation is to learn the language, I suggest you to watch the following 2 old movies ( due to clarity in speech and most of the non-Kamnadigas were ok with these) Kataariveera (talk) 16:23, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Halu Jenu (with subtitles) - Tragicomedy from 80s Beladingala Bale ( without subtitles) - Romantic comedy from 90s Kataariveera (talk) 16:25, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please note that both these movies are old but enjoyable if watched with patience.

Movies on Amazon: Above Average:

@Kataariveera: Comedy films released during 2000s. DareshMohan (talk) 18:29, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can be suggested - problem is 2000s was the worst era for Kannada. There were lot of remakes. Also not sure whether they will be available on OTT or with subtitles though there are chances of finding them on YouTube Still I suggest the following:
Rama Shyama Bhama
Galate Aliyandru
Kodandarama
Ramakrishna
(Unfortunately all are remakes)
But if you are really wanting good comedy movies in Kannada, I suggest the following before 2000s
Gauri Ganesha
Inspector Vikram
Kalyana Mantapa
Mavanige Takka Aliya
Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma
Ganeshana Maduve Kataariveera (talk) 14:03, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
If you are okay with romantic comedies of 2000s, i suggest the following:
Arasu
Milana
Raam (remake)
Datta
Mungaru Male
Dhool (remake)
Ullasa Utsaha (remake)
Chellata (remake)
Krishna
Romeo
Sundaraanga Jaana (remake)
Krishnaleela
Aishwarya
By the way, in my earlier reply I forgot the following from 2000s:
Kothigalu Saar Kothigalu
Only Vishnuvardhana
(these 2 are better choices) Kataariveera (talk) 14:32, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Just Maat Maatalli is a good movie but very very slow and may not be liked by all. However, climax is good. Rajakumara first half is average but the second half is thoroughly engaging, emotional & entertaining. Shrimurali has only 3 good movies [Chandrachakori, Ugramm, Mufti] and 2 average movie a [Rathavara, Yashwanth] in his career. Sudeep's good movies are mostly remakes[Huchcha,Valee, My Autograph, No.73 Shanthinivas, Kempegowda,Maanikya,Mukunda Murari]. His non remake good movies [Vishnuvardhana,Kotigobba2, Mussanjemathu, Bachchan] are very few. Radhika Kumarswamy's good movies are - Ninagagi, Tavarige Baa Thangi, Rishi. Kataariveera (talk) 15:54, 7 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
How are Karvva, Kirik Party and Ondu Motteya Kathe? Can u suggest some movies of Raj B. Shetty, Rakshit Shetty and Rishab Shetty (already seen Kantara). DareshMohan (talk) 01:17, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
All 3 movies - Karva, Kirik Party & Ondu Motteya Kathe are worth watching. All movies of Rakshit Shetty in lead roles are conceptually different and are good except Vastuprakara and Ricky. Raj B Shetty worth watching movies where he is a lead are OMK, Garuda Gamana Vrushubha Vahana (GGVV) and Mayabazaar 2016. Rishab's good movies as lead actor are Kantara & Bell Bottom. Kataariveera (talk) 17:22, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I felt that OMK was slow (only saw beginning 10 minutes). Does it get faster or interesting? DareshMohan (talk) 04:00, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Kataariveera, I think you haven't read the article carefully. No problem, it happens with everyone. Actually, I hadn't added the article as the source for box office numbers, it was someone else who did that. I already checked the article and I found that Rs.344 crore is the gross collection in India and Rs.33 crore is the gross collection from overseas, so the total collection is Rs.377 crore. This article in pinkvilla is mainly talking about the collections in India, but has also mentioned the collections from overseas.
  • This is an excerpt from the article --
"The total box office collections of the film in India are nearing Rs. 350 crores, with Rs. 344 crores to date. It has grossed another $4 million (Rs. 33 crores) overseas, for a worldwide total of Rs. 377 crores, possibly targeting Rs. 400 crores at the end of its run."

Hi.. I wrongly removed without reading it fully. I immediately changed it. Kataariveera (talk) 02:17, 19 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, can you add the contents of this review (since you know Kannada) to Draft:Shubham. It says ಸ್ನೇಹ ಸೇತು : ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ. Does it mean it is from Vijaya Karnataka? DareshMohan (talk) 08:27, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Another doubt, critic R. G. Vijayasarathy wrote two reviews for many Kannada films. Usually one for Nowrunning and then one for Rediff, is there a reason why he did that? Interestingly, both reviews are worded differently.

Yes, it means "courtesy:Vijaya Karnataka". However, since the link is for filmibeat website, I am not sure whether it can be used as source. Let me know if you are absolutely sure that we can use it, after which I shall translate & update the draft. Kataariveera (talk) 15:05, 24 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

R G Vijayasarathy was a highly respected critic who was non hesitant to call spade a spade. Maybe he felt it is not ethical to give same review to 2 websites and earn money from both. Hence maybe since he received remuneration from both, he wrote 2 reviews. Kataariveera (talk) 15:08, 24 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

No need to translate because the draft was rejected. R G Vijayasarathy seems to be popular but if he did not write any full length books and only film reviews, then it is hard to make an article on him. Found this but nothing at all before his death. DareshMohan (talk) 09:21, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

You rarely come across articles about Kannada film reviewers because they are mostly film journalists and nobody writes specifically about them. It's also difficult to find source material to make an article on them. Kataariveera (talk) 16:28, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please move the page to this title (name per most sources). Can you confirm Sathish Ninasam role in Madesha - movie link timestamp. I thought his role was "Sarkar (Ramesh Pandith's) henchman" but his article says "Ramana". DareshMohan (talk) 10:37, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Was Kanti (film) a box office failure. This source says 14 flops, which includes Kanti. Although the source contradicts itself by saying that Kanti was a hit. DareshMohan (talk) 11:49, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sri Kshetra Adichunchanagiri (2012)

edit

Can you help me translate this review? The full film is on YouTube. Can you find the name of Ambareesh, Ramkumar and Shivakumar characters? Is this translation accurate? DareshMohan (talk) 10:45, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

The translation is reasonably good except for few words like "self congratulations" wrongly used instead or a better word "self glorification". Similarly, instead of "Vapti" use "boundaries". The phrase " story of his birth in the monastery courtyard" should be " story of the monastery" and in place where "not surprising" is used, it should have been "not engaging".
I will add the names of the characters at the earliest. Kataariveera (talk) 12:17, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Great, the article is Sri Kshetra Adi Chunchanagiri. It seems that Ramkumar had the most screen time (appears in second half). DareshMohan (talk) 10:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yashwanth (2005)

edit

I need help finding sources for this film (Kannada sources are fine too). These are the only sources that I found. DareshMohan (talk) 10:21, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

This source has all the details correctly though it will not fall under "reliable" category of wiki standards.

Then, check whether this article link from Archives of Deccan Herald is opening. If yes, you have a reliable source:

Is it possible to get the contents of the film review? If not, at least there is a reliable review. DareshMohan (talk) 23:30, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry... No source other than viggy. Kataariveera (talk) 14:48, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
There is this source. What's your role in Yashwanth? I play Rakshita's mom in it. I am a very strict mother, and the daughter's over-protected. In fact, she calls me Hitler at one point in the movie! It's a love story, between Rakshita and Murali. In the movie, I have a brother who fools me, and has designs on my daughter. The same man is also responsible or my separation from my husband. Although I can't create the article without the Deccan Herald review. @Kailash29792: Can you save the review (http://archive.deccanherald.com/Deccanherald/feb062005/mr3.asp)?

Here is for Shambu:

Given that their is two reviews (Rediff - 1 2) and one is not viewable (Deccan Herald), do you think these films are still article worthy? I feel like prioritizing Shambhu because it has another review (1). The issue is that I need help finding sources.
Can you find any Deccan Herald reviews for Aadi (2005), Hettavara Kanasu (2006), Good Luck (2006) and Shree (2006)? DareshMohan (talk) 04:07, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
1. Both Shambu & Gopi are not worthy (except that Gopi is a remake of Mahesh Babu movie Murari).
2. Deccan Herald reviews - links avaliable in archives but they are not readable. So you wont be able to use DC for old movies. Suggest you to look for alternatives.
3. Finding reliable sources for older movies is a difficult task. Kataariveera (talk) 16:53, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Okay, no problem. One doubt is Shambu a remake of Thirumalai (2003)? The Nowrunning and Rediff reviews mention the film as "Tirumalai". Can I consider the Nowrunning and Rediff reviews as two different reviews (bothe reviews are written by R. G. Vijayasarathy although the content is different)? Along with the Indiaglitz and dead-link Deccan Herald review, that is four reviews in total. DareshMohan (talk) 09:07, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Shambu is not a remake. Kannada movies of 2000s had a bad habit of copying 2 or 3 sequences from Tamil & Telugu movies. Same was the case with Shambhu. It cannot be considered as remake.
Nowrunning & Rediff can be considered as 2 separate reviews since the wordings are totally different (though by same person). You can consider all 4 reviews. Kataariveera (talk) 14:28, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can you include the Deccan Herald review for Green Signal (2005)? Per this (WP:V), Do not reject reliable sources just because they are difficult or costly to access. Some reliable sources are not easily accessible. DareshMohan (talk) 06:10, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Major doubt

edit

Please clear this doubt is Sidhant Mohapatra in Gowri Kalyana (1991) here (credited as Harshavardhan)?

It is not him, right (face looks very different)? Anyways, who is this Harshavardhan, did he act in any other film? DareshMohan (talk) 19:09, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is a high chance of him being Siddhanth - though face cut does look different. Director Dwarkish who had a rift with Vishnuvardhan introduced an Odia actor (name not known) & renamed him Harshavardhan as a competition and did this movie. However, the movie flopped & Harshavardhan never acted in any Kannada movie. The hero is having moustache because it is the trend in Kannada to have moustache for hero. All major lead actors have it - except Shivarajkumar & Puneeth. Check for old movies of Mohapatra for any scene where he has moustache. Also the heroine of this movie Nithya is said to be Malayalam actress Maria who became famous for soft porn. Check from that angle too. Kataariveera (talk) 14:57, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I took your word for it. He has a mustache in this film. It looks like for the Kannada film, they changed his appearance to make him look like a hero (his cheeks, earlobes look different). DareshMohan (talk) 08:04, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the video. I can confirm it is him - yes they have changed the appearance slightly to make him look more of a hero material Kataariveera (talk) 14:22, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
omg, did a intense check and just noticed that they did not approve of his ears that stick out and decided to give him new ears and a wig. only his signature mustache gives it away. Interestingly many Odia people don't know this. Check the comments here. DareshMohan (talk) 08:44, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Then maybe its not him. We might be misguiding through Wikipedia. I believe Odia people are better ones to judge. Should that information be removed until we get more clarifications? Kataariveera (talk) 12:47, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

What is Neene Neene - is it something to do with "you"? DareshMohan (talk) 06:54, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

"Neene" is the colloquial form of "Neenu" which means "You". " Neene" is used mostly to denote "Only You". Eg. " Neene beku" means "I want only you" [beku = want]. "Neene baa" means "You only come" [baa = come]. Kataariveera (talk) 02:16, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

My edits

edit

Sorry for my edits on Baashha, Hum (film), Soma (1996 film) and Kotigobba. Upon closer inspection of Soma (1996 film) given that it has a sister scene from Baashha and a similar autokaaran song, it looks like it is based on Baashha and not Hum. DareshMohan (talk) 00:12, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Changed the article accordingly. You are free to modify it further. Kataariveera (talk) 08:48, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Are you sure that Baashha was inspired by Hum (film)? Have you seen both films? See the responses to this. Other than "Bombay don in exile theme", "brother/sister sentiment", and "hidden past" was there any similarities? This might be an example of Wikipedia:Citogenesis. Based on the Baashha article, the film is based on a discussed scene of Hum (film) that was not filmed. Baashha also does not have the scenes at the dock like Hum (film) does. DareshMohan (talk) 00:18, 23 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thats the reason the wordings used is based on/adapted / inspired and not copied or remake. Apart from the 3 plot points mentioned by you, here are few more similarities:
and
d) Hero taking up small time work (farming/auto) to hide his past.
e) Inspector brother
f) The look & getup of the villain (Bhaktavar/ Mark Anthony) in the second half
g) The guys who actually ransack villain 's home & kill his wife putting the blame on the hero.
h) The villain believing the words of that guy & deciding to take revenge once he is out of the jail
i)Kidnapping female family member of the hero by the villain in the climax.
j) The telephone sequence - where the villain calls & asks the family member to hand over the phone to hero referring to his old name (Tiger /Baashha) and the family member telling wrong number
k) Inspector Brother blaming the hero's past acts
l) Female family member - who is aware of the hero past - explaining the sacrifices of the hero to brother
Hence it is clear , the movie isn't a copy - I am against calling it a remake. But saying the movie is not at all based/inspired also seems wrong - since there are characters, plot points, get up, sequences which are similar. You are free to change the choice of words - loosely based on/ inspired / adapted - whichever you want. But, I feel one among these has to be used considering the similarities existing. Sri Manjunatha (film)

edit

Why is the article portraying it as a Telugu film? Saw the film here on YouTube and surprised that 90% of it was dubbed from Kannada. Only scenes involving Chiranjeevi-Meena, Tanikella Bharani and Brahmanandam have been reshot. Most of the film (Arjun-Soundarya-Ambareesh, other actors - most of the film) has been shot in Kannada only. DareshMohan (talk) 11:01, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sri Manjunatha is a Kannada film which was partially reshot in Telugu. At that point of time, there was an unofficial ban in Kannada for dubbing movies from other languages. So, it has to be Kannada only. They couldn't have dubbed the movie in Kannada. The lead actors - Arjun & Soundarya - and other actors like Ambarish are also Kannada actors. However, it is potrayed as Telugu because the director is Telugu, Chiranjeevi in an important role , Arjun - Soundarya are also known in Telugu & partially reshot scenes. However, I argue it is a Kannada movie because it was majorly shot in Kannada. The story is about a devotee of Koti Lingeshwara in Karnataka. Technicians like music director Hamsalekha, cameraman Sundarnath Suvarna & editor R Janardhan are all from Kannada industry only. Kataariveera (talk) 15:22, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Raghuveer's "Chaitrada Premanjali" was ready for release but no theatres were willing to exhibit the movie citing hero was not good looking. Ultimately, with the intervention of producer Ramu, who evinced interest in the movie, theatre owners agreed to exhibit the movie until Amitabh Bachchan's "Khuda Gawah" releases. However, soon after the release, the movie struck gold & started seeing housefull shows due to which Amitabh Bachchan 's movie had to delay its release in Karnataka by one month. Subsequently, when Raghuveer's second movie "Shrungara Kavya" was ready for release, distributors thronged to purchase the movie. However, Raghuveer who had faced insult earlier refused to sell the rights to people who had rejected him earlier. Kataariveera (talk) 15:11, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Can you help with this translation: The muhurat of the film was held at Sree Kailasa Vaikunta Mahakshetra Temple in Rajajinagar. Sharan, the producer of this film, also produced Kullara Lok (2002) and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (2005). Poojari is broken down into Poo, which means worship, ja, which means learning jataka and ri, which means repair. I like thrillers , horror and black comedy- Thegidi, D16 (Dhuruvangal Padhinaru), Pizza, Soodu Kaavum, Jigarthanda, Kolamaavu Kokila and sensible commercial action films like Thuppakki, Ayan, Sardar, Kaththi, Thani Oruvan and Maanadu. Kataariveera (talk) 05:10, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Have you seen Maayavan, Chaarulatha, and Vellai Pookal? I found them all scary lol. DareshMohan (talk) 04:44, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes.. Charulatha initially was started as a Kannada movie only. I have seen that and loved it. Watch the original Thai version. Maayavan and Vellai Pookal were good but I liked Ratchasan more Kataariveera (talk) 12:57, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Original dialogue

edit

Can you add Kannada dialogue of "If you gain courage because a thousand people are standing behind you, then you can only win a war. But if a thousand people get courage because you are standing in front of them, you can conquer the world" to Archana Jois#Career [7]. It comes at the end at 2:30:39 of KGF 1.

KGF is a Kannada film not an English one so I feel having the original with the English translation is a better idea. DareshMohan (talk) 02:36, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kannada supporting actors

Others who dont have - I can only think of KS Sridhar (who has appeared in movies like Sidlingu and Killing Veerappan), Manjunath Hegde, Krishna Hebbale - all of whom are still in the stage of recognition

Thanks. Indo-Asian News Service = nowrunning.com for RGV. I moved your review upwards since it was well written and differently worded than RGV's Rediff review. When I was writing the article I saw that there was an Indiaglitz review but sadly that had same exact content as nowrunning & later date. DareshMohan (talk) 06:48, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Roles

edit

Can you find who played the doctor and nurse roles? [11] DareshMohan (talk) 03:30, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

The doctor role was played by Hari (full name Haridas probably). He played one of the 5 lead actors in the 2002 Kannada movie "Friends". He was actually an assistant cameraman who was made to act because of his fat body structure. He went on to play comedian's role in few movies. Not to be confused with another comedian Hariharan who was also a fat guy. Surprisingly, both were part of Puneeth Rajkumar's movie " Vamshi".
No idea about the female nurse - not a popular face. Kataariveera (talk) 13:33, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Duniya Vijay 2004 roles

edit

Can you confirm the missing ones? He may have appeared in Ajju and Veera Kannadiga. [12] [13] DareshMohan (talk) 07:13, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

These are links to 2 Different actors. First one is a link to old actor Vijay and the second one is of Duniya Vijay who played minor roles before turning hero. If you are talking about Duniya Vijay, then no, he wasnt part of Veera Kannadiga (not sure about Ajju movie). However, in the second link of Duniya Vijay, 2 important movies where he played villains are missing. One is "Rakshasa" and Other one is "Rishi" - both starring Shivarajkumar. But I guess they are already included in his Wikipedia filmography. Kataariveera (talk) 13:42, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the response. I was confused because Monalisa was mentioned in the first link and Duniya Vijay does appear in that film [14]. Can you add the character names of Duniya Vijay before Duniya? Even Henchman, etc. will suffice. DareshMohan (talk) 18:10, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I guess you have already done. Nothing else I suppose Kataariveera (talk) 12:11, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yup, only Guna left but I don't have a copy of that film on YouTube. DareshMohan (talk) 06:50, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Guna mostly wont be available. By the way, changed his character name in 2 movies in his filmography. In Rakshasa, he is not Selva's henchman but his brother Palani. In Rishi, he played a drug peddler. So that would be more apt than saying henchman. Updated accordingly. Kataariveera (talk) 14:36, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I found it interesting how Selva and Palani spoke in Tamil. DareshMohan (talk) 20:50, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Because in the movie They are from KGF - Its a town bordering Karnataka, TN & Andhra. So all 3 languages - Tamil, Telugu and Kannada are common there. The reason why they selected Tamil name for Those rowdies is that there was real life Tamil Gangster in KGF called Thangam who was notorious. So they partly used his story and mixed fiction. Plot

Help with Draft:Pakka Chukka#Plot. Fix any errors. [18]. DareshMohan (talk) 19:00, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

No.. The scenes of murder are not shown. It is orally told that since they witness a murder, they are coerced to join a mental hospital from where they escape. The movie begins with them already having escaped from hospital (story before that is only narrated not shown. However, in the climax, you can notice that the lady who appears is the one whom they thought was murdered - implying there was no murder)
I will go through the plot and fix it if required. Kataariveera (talk) 02:24, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

np. yes even i hate creating pages. The reason: pages you create are associated with your account meaning that if you create an account for an actor that actor's manager etc. can find out about it since Google puts Wikipedia result in top. That's why I rather only create film articles. DareshMohan (talk)

Remake

edit

Is Galate Aliyandru a remake of Andaz Apna Apna or Ullathai Allitha (songs like Laila Laila make it look like the Tamil song). Is Dhai Akshar Prem Ke a remake of A Walk in the Clouds or Pooveli? DareshMohan (talk) 20:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Galate Aliyandru is a scene by scene remake of Ullathai Allitha. Ullatha Allitha has copied scenes from Andaaz Apna Apna.
Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (DAPK) is not remake of Pooveli. Both are inspired by A Walk In The Clouds which was a remake of Italian movie Four Steps Into Clouds and that Italian movie was adapted into Kannada as "Mungaarina Minchu". Kataariveera (talk) 14:11, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sources in the lead section

edit

They don't always have to be, per WP:LEADCITE. But they must be sourced in the body. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:10, 10 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok.. Agreed. Kataariveera (talk) 01:38, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Full name

edit

I think Ramesh Aravind credited with full name only in recent films and not older 2000s films. This source says that he was credited as Ramesh Aravind in Tamil and Ramesh in Kannada. This reminds me of Arjun Sarja because I don't remember him being credited with full name in any Tamil film. DareshMohan (talk) 05:43, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

He was always credited "Ramesh" in Kannada. The first time I saw "Ramesh Aravind" in title card was for his debut directorial "Rama Shama Bhama" co-starring Kamal Haasan (remake of Sathi Leelavathi). There also, he credited "Ramesh" when his name appeared for acting but credited himself as "Ramesh Aravind" for direction credits. This was done to avoid confusion as Ramesh was a common name among actors in Kannada industry (like Mandya Ramesh, Ramesh Bhat, Jadugar Ramesh) and it was his debut in direction leading to confusion which Ramesh was debuting as director. So to distinguish , he started using "Ramesh Aravind" - Though I am not sure when it became started to be used permanently. As far as Arjun is considered, I think he was never ever known as Arjun Sarja in Tamil whereas in Kannada it was always Arjun Sarja. Kataariveera (talk) 15:22, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Idu Entha Premavayya

edit

I am inclined to create this article after finding this source [30]. Have you seen the film? DareshMohan (talk) 04:35, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes..Seen... It is inspired by the 1982 Hindi movie "Kaamchor" which in turn was a remake of 1980 Telugu movie
"Subhodayam". Kataariveera (talk) 02:27, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I created the article Idu Entha Premavayya. Which song is the title song? Can you check if everything in it is correct? DareshMohan (talk) 06:29, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Yeneno Kanasu Kandalu" is the title song - the title is used at 35 seconds into the song.
Other details mostly ok. Kataariveera (talk) 12:38, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reviews

edit

Like you said, my search for reviews ended in vain. Almost anytime I enter a date on Sunday (tried for January & February 2004) [31], it is dead. I want to go through every Sunday but I realise that almost all of them are dead. DareshMohan (talk) 01:10, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok, cool just saying that Chappale is dropped because lack of second review and the fact that Viggy is unreliable so any non-review stuff is not reliable. Also Kanakambari already is an article. DareshMohan (talk) 04:18, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Translation is fine. No issue. Added a line about the plot of the movie. Check and rectify it. Kataariveera (talk) 16:12, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Names. Does "Nodi Shiva" mean that his name is Shiva? [33] If not, please rectify it. They say Guru a lot in the film (or in Kannada language in general) and it doesn't indicate a name. DareshMohan (talk) 05:55, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

True.. "Guru" is an equivalent to calling "Sir"/" Bro". "Guru" is used to call a not so familiar person (for friends, the word used is "Maga" - can be equated to calling "Machcha" for friends. "Machcha" has turned into "Machchi" in 2000s Kannada movies). Using "Shiva" is similar to using Guru to call someone. Other equivalents which we use for similar References will be "Dhani" or "Devru". Individually, Shiva or Guru can be names of persons but coloquially used more in Bangalore to refer someone.
In the current instance - "Nodi" means "to see". So " nodi Shiva" means "see bro" or "paar machcha". Kataariveera (talk) 02:09, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

My edits on Kannada films

edit

Hi bro, check out the articles of films Kowrava and Karnataka Suputra which i created hope it is done well and i also expanded the articles of films of vishnuvardhan and ravichandran. Srivin (talk) 17:15, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Great job brother - only issue is "Soundtrack" section of both the pages needs to be formatted in standard format. Please let me know you want to do that or should I do?
In case of "Karnataka Suputra", please check by what name was Rituparna Sengupta credited in title card. I guess full name was not there. That info can be added. Also, Raj has sung background song for Vishnu movie - a rare instance. Maybe only 4 movies we can find this. That info also can be added in " Soundtrack" section itself. Darshan TV roles

When was Kashinath's heyday?

edit

I tried creating articles for 12AM Madhyarathri and Draft:Ol Muniswamy although both seem low-key. Popular films such as Hello Yama lack articles. Could only find mentions here [35] (as Hello Yama) and [36] (review of Telugu remake). If you could look through his films and say which popular films lack articles, it would be helpful. DareshMohan (talk) 01:48, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kashinath's heydays were from 1984 to 1999.
The prominent ones which are not having Wikipages are:

Jaggesh-Komal

edit

Is only Jaggesh famous? Komal seems more low-key and is even selective with his roles [37]. Both of them appeared in Manmatha but Komal's role was appreciated [38]. DareshMohan (talk) 01:13, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

You can equate him to Santhanam - started in small roles, went on to be top billed comedian replacing senior comedians who were getting old, then decided to be a lead actor, initially found good success in comedy movie in leadrole, slowly started to fade out in lead role but refused to come back to playing sidekick comedian to other actors. Same problem with Telugu comedian Sunil - but he is now playing villain roles. Komal can think of same considering he has played villain roles in his brother's movies at the beginning of his career. Co incidentally, Sunil's Maryada Ramanna had Komal in Kannada remake and Santhanam in Tamil remake! Kataariveera (talk) 02:41, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is it? Have not noticed.. Will check and revert... Kataariveera (talk) 02:19, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also for other years too (1999, 2000). Incorrectly the first best film without a source was also again mentioned in best director, I have rectified it. Source is needed. Per Wikipedia policy, if the awards for the year mention every award except that award, unsourced information has to be removed. To confirm the lack of awards for some years, there have been other award categories that were not given some years: Karnataka State Film Award for Best Children Film, Karnataka State Film Award for Best Child Actor (Female), and Karnataka State Film Award for Best Art Direction.
Not sure about reliability of Viggy but even with Best Director award, Mussanje won five awards but this source mentions six [39]. DareshMohan (talk) 17:58, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Check translation of Nannedeya Haadu. DareshMohan (talk) 02:27, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Ede" literally means "chest" as you translated but poetically used to mean "heart" - they use "edeyaladinda" - here "aala" means "depth"; so " edeyaladinda" is used to mean "from bottom of the heart" though literal translation would have meant"from the depth of chest" (which is not wat the lyricsist wants).. So "Nannadeya Haadu" means "My Heart's Song"... Kataariveera (talk) 06:10, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Shivaram is the inspector who appears in the very first scene. He is not named. His name on the badge also not clear. Srinivas Murthy is referred as only "Maashtru" both at 18:40 as well as at 37:40 -37:58. Maashtru is just a Kannadised version of Master. Even at 01:58:00 when asked who are you - he just says I am just after small station "master" for people who are moving towards their destination. How to learn Kannada?

edit

Not an urgent request, but as you know it is one of my life goals (say I learn Kannada & visit Karnataka in x years). I would love to be exposed to something other than cinema as well (i.e. watching dubbed films again isn't my cup of tea; maybe should watch old movies). In the big cities of Karnataka, I bet I could get by without it Kannada. In fact, someday I would like to visit every state and be immersed in their language. Sadly, Hindi has became widespread and I never learned it due to lack of interest. To me, Kannada seems very similar to Tamil. I don't know how to read the letters though. Worst is how Duolingo ignores most Indian languages and apps are not the best. DareshMohan (talk) 08:24, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

yes some of the words in kannada are slightly similar to tamil except for change in spelling like for example poo in kannada means hoo and paalu in kannada means haalu. Srivin (talk) 12:47, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hats off for your love brother... Unfortunately its not easy to identify any method to learn. Watching Rajkumar & Ananth Nag Movies without subtitles or any Kannada movie with subtitle or referring "Learn Kannada in 30 days" book are the better effective methods Kataariveera (talk) 09:21, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Vijay Raghavendra and Radhika Kumaraswamy

edit

Can you check their articles and mention which of their films that are well known that don't have articles. Obviously I would have to find reliable sources before creating, which as you know is very difficult and might not exist (I have not found any reliable sources for Neela Megha Shyama yet [48]). I might be at fault for removing the poorly sourced articles, but I feel that Prema Qaidi should have an article [it would need like at least one more source]. At least the song "Neenadre Nanageista" seems to be known [49]. The source here on that draft [50] is just a passing mention and is about Romeo Juliet (2002 film).

I am planning on creating an article for Preetisle Beku, but I need to add the plot so might have to watch the film myself if you have not seen it. The reason I am creating it is because is that it has a section here [51] (as Preetheslebeku) and another Viggy source [52]. Wish there was more reliable sources but I was surprised to find the Times of India source itself. Only issue is that if it gets deleted, it might be hard to recreate.

P. S. It is sad that Viggy is not considered reliable since it written by one person but I feel good for creating articles for Chitraloka.com and R. G. Vijayasarathy because it makes them reliable, so even if RGV wrote a review published on nowrunning.com, it is considered reliable. Also sad is that Deccan Herald didn't archive their review properly (esp before 2003 is nonexistent [53]), indiainfo.com has reviews for no Vijay Raghavendra films [54], also this random site go4i that I didn't know about till recently didn't archive most of their reviews after 2001 [55]. Its Unfortunate but sad truth is its highly difficult to find articles on Kannada movies in early internet era even for big movies. So, its mostly impossible to find sources for such mid budget movies. The only regular source was Viggy which again cannot be considered a reliable source. Plus we cannot create a page for it since hardly any info available about its origin. In that sense, We need to appreciate your efforts in creating page for Chitraloka and RGV! Among the English print media, Only Deccan Herald used to regularly review Kannada movies. But hardly we can find their old articles online now. Kannada media online version that old is out of question. Kataariveera (talk) 16:08, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I can't find where Tulasi (actress), Sujatha (actress) and M. S. Umesh come in the film (listed on chiloka.com). I can't find the name of the Harisha and his girlfriend Aish actor names. None of them are there in the movie. However, the title credits do have these names. But they may be referring to any lesser known actors with same name and Chiloka might have put the picture of these popular actors wrongly. I am also unaware of the guy referred at 14:52. Viggy.com

Do checkout B. N. Subramanya. He along with Roopa Hegde founded Viggy.com right (says Roopa and me here)? He is considered a backbone as per this.

This article mentions we at Viggy.com. Is we referring to a team of editors or did Roopa Hegde write this?

When I did inspect element on this page it says Roopa Hegde (viggy.com), Shivaraj, B.N. Subrahmanya (viggy.com). If Shivaraj is not part of Viggy.com, then it shows that only Roopa Hegde and B. N. Subramanya managed Viggy.com.

Either way, it is a breakthrough that Viggy.com has a link since B. N. Subramanya either majorly or partially contributed to the website, potentially making it reliable! DareshMohan (talk) 10:15, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kuvalaya-mala, the other source was composed in 779CE that mentions Marathi in

edit

Since you are not willing to believe in the official Government source that gave Marathi the classical status, why are you ignoring the other source 'Kuvayala-mala'composed in 779CE that clearly states it's based on the language used in the Maharashtra region. If 981CE is your acceptable date then obviously the language must have originated way earlier. Britannica source is outdated and the Britannica source has got more to do with literature than the language origin itself. Around the 10th century was when Marathi reached a mature linguistic period. It is surprising that the reason why Marathi got classical status (i.e. its continuity with Maharashtri Prakrit) is being denied when the committee that grants classical status have experts from all languages seated and who review each and every thing before granting the classical status. If Marathi's first attestation is 10th century how is it even Classical considering the criteria to be classical itself states 1,500 years minimum. A language goes through various changes as well as name changes just the way a person does during their lifespan but that does not mean that the language is different just the way the person isn't Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 06:01, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The List is based on earliest inscription found and not when the Language originated. Britannica is used exactly for the reason its about recorded history and not about language. As far as your claim of criteria of 1500 yrs is concerned, Check "criteria" section in the same page - it says "early texts over 1000 yrs". So its recorded history originating in 10th century will suffice in granting That status Kataariveera (talk) 12:53, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
But the Britannica article does not state anything about any inscription. It instead talks about the origin of its literature. The very name of the article is 'Marathi Literature'.
For the criteria I checked with my eyes wide open and it states it is 1500-2000 years. If it is not at least 1500 years old it cannot stand as a Classical Language. The criteria that you speak of is the old 2004 criteria when Tamil was granted classical status which was a 1000 years. They changed it to 1500 years way back in 2005. You may have missed this updated criteria. The only reason Marathi has been granted classical status is because of its continuity with Maharashtri, that the Experts' Committee proved and the government approved. What other document other than the government document should suffice ? If the Marathi Experts' Committee has proved it. If the Sahitya Akademi Experts' panel has agreed and the Ministry of Culture is also approving and putting forth the document that grants classical status officially, then why is it being refuted ? We are no experts here. The experts have done their job. I have merely updated the status basis the latest official document by the Ministry of Culture. It's just a matter of logical acceptance on your end with no offence intended. Also you missed the 2nd source link "Kuvayala-mala" that clearly states 779 CE was when it was written based on the language used in Maharashtra which means Marathi existed even before that and hence the continuity with Maharashtri is very logical

Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 18:08, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Check "Kavulayamala" article in Wikipedia only. It mentions the language is Prakrit.
http://en.m.wiki.x.io/wiki/Kuvalaya-m%C4%81l%C4%81
Check the language section Kataariveera (talk) 02:02, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The Prakrit spoken in the Maharashtra region was Marathi. Marathi is ultimately Maharashtri Prakrit. That is why the source is linked with Marathi in the first place. If it were merely Prakrit then why even link that source with Marathi specifically ? It has not been done by me. It has been done by the editor of the page. If that Prakrit has no relation with Marathi then it has no business being linked with Marathi in the first place. But because indeed that Prakrit is Maharashtri which was spoken in the Maharashtra region and because Maharashtri is Marathi as proved by the Experts' Committee and accepted by the Ministry of culture, the source was linked with Marathi(not done by me). And it is obvious that the language spoken in the Maharashtra region is none other than Marathi. Which is why I am explaining to you that Maharashtri is Marathi and that is why even though Prakrit was mentioned in Kuvayala-mala, it was linked to Marathi and not Bengali, Odia or the Prakrit language itself that got classical status.Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 06:48, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Irrespective of who linked it - unless the original page wont reflect Marathi,it cannot be considered... Kataariveera (talk) 09:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay then can you help me out with 3 things here. First one is if it does not have Marathi mentioned then why is it linked to Marathi ? Secondly if Marathi is 1,000 years old it should not be in the this classical list since the 2005 Criteria states a minimum of 1,500-2,000 years of antiquity. And thirdly if the Ministry of Culture and the Experts' Panel have concluded that Maharashtri is Marathi and has continuity according to this document - https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteReadData/specificdocs/documents/2024/oct/doc2024104409001.pdf
Then is their research wrong ? since you're the expert here Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 09:30, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
1. Check history to know who added the link - it was added randomly
2. Tell me which is the earliest year when the recorded inscription of Marathi was found Kataariveera (talk) 10:25, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I truly and with all earnesty request you to go through these 2 links once properly. It is mentioned there. Even in Sangam Literature 'Maharatthi' is mentioned which was the old name of Marathi. The 1st link is of the evidences produced by the committee- https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/clamour-grows-for-marathi-to-be-given-classical-language-status/articleshow/63776578.cms
This was submitted to the Ministry of Culture that accords classical status.
The 2nd PDF is from the Ministry of Culture that approves it- https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteReadData/specificdocs/documents/2024/oct/doc2024104409001.pdf
A 500-paged document was submitted to the Ministry and one of the heads sitting in Delhi who is a Kannadiga had at first denied without looking at the proofs but then himself was convinced after looking at all the proofs. And this was told himself by the Marathi experts coordinator named Hari Narke who is now no more. Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 10:37, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
With due respect, problem will be solved if you provide the details of earliest attestation of written inscription found for Marathi -
1. The first link is an article about the claims of Mr. Narke as to what he considers to be correct
2. Second article is a Govt press release - which cannot be considered Kataariveera (talk) 10:55, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Those are the evidences he provided. I shared it so that you get an idea of the evidences he provided. The 2nd link is from the Government. But why cannot it be considered since they are the same body that has granted Marathi classical status and it is their document only. The 1st inscription is the Naneghat inscription found in Junnar that has the term 'Marathino' in it. It is 2,200 years old at the least. This is being said by all the experts not me. Is this suffice ? Can the date be changed now to 3rd century BCE since it is on the basis of the Naneghat inscription that Marathi's candidature for classical status became very strong. Apart from other literary works such as Gaha Sattasai and 85 Pothis preserved in the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Pune that proved continuity of Marathi to date starting from the Naneghat inscription Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 07:30, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm RangersRus. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your contribution to List of highest-grossing Kannada films have been undone because they did not appear constructive. Pinkvilla and India Today are reliable sources per WP:ICTFSOURCES and when sources differ, we should show all the range and not remove them. RangersRus (talk) 11:45, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please check the talk page on KGF2 regarding this Kataariveera (talk) 12:43, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes I will check on Pinkvilla source and have that fixed. RangersRus (talk) 14:12, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok I checked and this source is dated Dec 22, 2022 but the one on the page is Published on Mar 06, 2023. It is common for editors make a typo and then later fix it with update. RangersRus (talk) 14:27, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
But question is why 1200 cannot be considered when the difference is just 1% (13 crores). This figure of 1187 is not a huge Difference from 1200 Which has been cited by Most of the other reliable sources. Pinkvilla no doubt is a reliable source but should only 1 site be used as a base for giving a range when the figure quoted by them is just 1% less than as many as 6 other reliable source? Kataariveera (talk) 16:31, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is not how range works. 13 crore is still a lot of difference and going by the figures in the sources, a range is made from lowest figure in the source to the maximum in another source and all others figures that fall in between. Even say a scenario, the lowest was 1187 by source and highest figure was 1200 by another source, still the range will have to show the range from 1187 to 1200. You can not just select 1200 and ignore 1187, saying that it is just 1% difference. RangersRus (talk) 17:38, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Isnt News18 a reliable source? It says 1500... so Shouldnt the range be 1187 to 1500? Kataariveera (talk) 01:46, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please clarify whether News18 is reliable or not? Kataariveera (talk) 04:22, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes News18 is reliable source but if the article's author gets any of its reports from unreliable Sacnilk or imdb, then the article itself becomes unreliable. This is true for any reliable media source who get reports from these unreliable sources. "According to Sacnilk" or "According to imdb" in an article is a red flag. RangersRus (talk) 13:24, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can also ask at WP:ICTFSOURCES talk page with brief about what in the article you would like to use and if any of the article's report comes from sacnilk or imdb. ICTF staff will review it and give you consensus. RangersRus (talk) 13:34, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The guy in yellow shirt? He is Kannada actor "Kote Prabhakar". This is a remake of Kannada movie " Om" directed by Upendra. This guy was Upendra's friend in real life. He played the same character in Both Kannada & Telugu. He is often seen in Shivarajkumar's movie like Madesha & Rakshasa. Funny thing is Upendra (who himself does not dub in Telugu for the dubbed version of his Kannada movie in lead roles) has dubbed for Prabhakar in both Kannada & Telugu versions - both of which were directed by Uppi. How can Maduve release before Pelli? DareshMohan (talk) 11:50, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am surprised...
Checked the censor dates in YouTube Video.. In case of Pelli its visible - Jun 30, 97 so release date of Aug 1 seems right. However, Maduve censor certificate isn't clear. The date 18 Jun may b censor date and not release date (neverthless that is also before Pelli censor date) So it may b a case where one website wrote wrong date and all others copied. Alternatively, is there a possibility of them being simultaneously shot considering the Producer, banner, story writer and music director were same Plus the release dates are close? Thanks for your insight. Either the producer made a cash grab and quickly made the film in Kannada, not sure. Music and storywriter was same due to remake. Can you find the release date of Kariya Kanbitta, the film is not listed on List of Kannada films of 2013 or List of Kannada films of 2014 (might have released in 2014 -- censor dated 31-12-2013). The film was released on YouTube on 29 October 2024 [63]. DareshMohan (talk) 22:11, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Kariya Kanbitta was made mainly for festivals - it had a very low key theatrical release after many delays. Not able to recall. Online - different websites giving different dates including 15 Jan 2015 - but no proper review or any reliable source Kataariveera (talk) 09:22, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

ರಗಳೆಗಳ ಬಳಿಕ ತುಂತುರು ಮಳೆ means drizzle after trouble right (it's not related to Ragale?) It is from Tunturu. Do check the translation and the article. DareshMohan (talk) 09:28, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

You have understood It absolutely Correct.. Amazing.. Hats off to you... one minor Correction - instead of trouble we can say irritation... Kataariveera (talk) 13:32, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
