Crane Lake Township

edit

Thanks for attempting to add Crane Lake Township; I have fixed the link. The reason that I reverted is that you added Crane Lake, Minnesota, which is not an article about the township; the correct article, Crane Lake Township, Minnesota, you didn't add to the template at all. By the way, in your edit summary, you gave part of a link before it cut you off, http://cranela What is the link that you intended to give? Nyttend (talk) 13:39, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Athens of the West

edit

The Athens of the West addition to the Lexington Page did not align to the right as intended but overlapped the existing picture of Downtown Lexington, so I removed it. I assume it's an original work and as such may not adhere to Wikipedia standards as it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Team4Technologies (talkcontribs) 03:25, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

While I appreciate your enthusiasm for Lexington being called the Athens of the West, an anonymous and uncited poem does not lend credence to its title. I don't like to delete things but Wikipedia has notability guidelines and it behooves us all to abide by them.
If you have the means to, get a picture of the historical placard on Main Street (near the Jefferson bridge) that declared Lexington the Athens of the West (if it's still there). I do not live there anymore otherwise I would. I've added the nickname to the infobox to replace more colloquial and less notable nicknames. There are even government pages that label Lexington the AOTW [1] so the nickname is pretty well pinned down already. Sorry for any misunderstanding on this. - Team4Technologies (talk) 23:57, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok, so I have OCD tendencies on the citations for David Winters. As it so happens, my taxicab is in the shop, and I am using this article as a break between other tasks I have. When working toward my Masters Degree Economics 1993 University of Kentucky, I was noted for my extensive bibliographies. I took the citation tag a bit personally, and decided to Pile it Higher and Deeper. But instead of dung, I piled it with unimpeachable sources. --K3vin (talk) 04:23, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

David Winters I did not even have the chance (3 minutes???) to explain why I did what I did before you reverted. As I said in my discussion. Perhaps I am just too tired, but it made sense to me. Please pay me the respect of a reply --K3vin (talk) 09:24, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

There really is no need to take the revert personally. I put a link in my edit summary to show you the rules on this (WP:MOSDAB, red links section and section on external links); it wouldn't matter why you had put the entry like that, it isn't allowed on dabs. If you think this person is notable, perhaps it is worth starting an article on him? Then he could be added onto the dab. Regards, Boleyn (talk) 09:57, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

COPIED AND PASTED FROM ARTICLE'S DISCUSSION PAGE: I've added a red link onto the Doolittle article and added Winters here, as David Winters (Democratic politician) (to differentiate from Dave Winters who is a Republican politician. Please change if you feel something else might be more appropriate, both here and on the Doolittle article. We only know if the person is mentioned in other articles if there's a red link to them on it. We then click on 'What links here'; if nothing, it can't be kept on the dab, as this is just to give links to Wikipedia articles. If it has a link, we add it on, with the relevant blue link (see WP:MOSDAB red links). Hope you're happier with the way the page is now. Regards, Boleyn (talk) 10:06, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Kirk Douglas

edit

Hi. There wasn't a lot wrong with your addition. I removed the part about the notability of the program, mostly because it may be more notable for the fact that it had Kirk Douglas starring in a made-for-TV musical, not at all related to Broadway. After I looked at my changes, I realized that the predominant reason I was fixing the refs didn't even get changed. In the last two cites, I just removed the parameters that weren't used, there's no need to retain those. This is the format I used for the (now changed) first ref:

  • <ref>[http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/14555/Dr-Jekyll-and-Mr-Hyde/overview "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1973)."] ''[[New York Times]]'' Review. Retrieved October 1, 2008.</ref>

and yours:

  • <ref>[[New York Times]] Review [http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/14555/Dr-Jekyll-and-Mr-Hyde/overview Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1973)]</ref>

In general, the format would be: <ref>Author if named. [url= "Title."] ''Newspaper, magazine, publication''. Date of issue. Retrieved: When it was first used.</ref>

I made sure the refs didn't have spaces between them, that there was punctuation before the refs and the title was italicized. That's it. Hope that helps. Wildhartlivie (talk) 12:29, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am modeling an article on Sunshine (magazine) after that of Coronet (magazine), a magazine of similar state. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Heinrichs1947.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Heinrichs1947.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:58, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removing the tag

edit

It is very clear that Winters meets the criteria for notability for people in the creative arts. He meets it a number of ways. If someone wants to challenge that, then start a AfD and get it settled. Just putting that tag up there and leaving it indefinately is ridiculous. It creates a false impression of the article. Niteshift36 (talk) 22:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Casey, Crime Photographer

edit

I appreciate the note, and I'm glad to see someone working on a radio-related project. I think that in all the listings that I ran across, the title was shortened to Crime Photographer for the sake of brevity, and sometimes even to Crime Photo. I've been interested in recreating the schedules for the days before "Must See TV", when the entertainment was more along the lines of "Must Hear". Great article too-- I'm old enough to remember Madge from the Palmolive commercials ("You're soaking in it!"), but not old enough to know that she was a radio player before that. Mandsford (talk) 00:20, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

If I knew the first thing about graphics, I could create a colorful table that showed the daily schedules, year by year. Do I understand right that you're a graduate of U.K.? I went to law school there, class of '85, and grew up in Lexington. It's been a 63-5 kind of day. Mandsford (talk) 00:46, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

List of [whoever] productions

Wikipedia is not a directory. There is no encyclopedic purpose to be served by creating an article listing everything (trivial or notable) that a professional has ever done. That role is filled by websites such as the IMDb and its counterparts. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:35, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

If the main article was bloatedly long, there might be a case to be made for creating a separate list article, with the appropriate content. Instead, this was an empty and unjustified spinoff of a shortish article about a person of limited notability. I don't think the WP:LISTS language relevant here. (By the way, you have to be meticuloursly careful about capitalization; due to the eccentricities of Wikimedia software, a missed capital will lose you your way entirely when navigating among cross-references.) --Orange Mike | Talk 13:05, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

David Winters

edit

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you found my changes to be helpful because even though we're not suppose to, some people get a bit own-y when it comes to the articles they create (I know I do!). I stumbled upon the Winters article after reading the Space Mutiny page yesterday because yes, I'm a geeky MSTie and that's one of my all time favorite episodes (Big McLargeHuge!). As for the article being less than perfect, it wasn't that bad. Truth be told, I found the article to be informative, and since that's the point of any article, you're definitely on the right track. I usually have to search for high and low for sources when I do a clean up, so I can't thank you enough for providing such great sources. The only real problem was structure and cohesion, but those can be easily fixed. Regarding the spelling errors, the only reason I do catch them is because of Firefox's redlined spellcheck feature! I actually laughed when I read that in your message because that's the only way I catch misspelled words 99.9% of the time (I'm a craptacular speller myself).

I don't think you're at the point where anyone has to follow you around, but if you ever need any help regarding an article, feel free to contact me. I'm a pretty horrible writer, but I'm a great cleaner upper so I'm always happy to lend a hand regarding that. It actually gives me a break from doing über important things like adding infoboxes to obscure television show articles. By the way, it's beyond cool that you've corresponded with Winters and you met Mike Nelson! I can understand why Winters wants to distance himself from Space Mutiny, but he should really be proud of it. People (myself included) still love that movie even if it is for all the wrong reasons. Proposed deletion of Jules Verne's 'Mystery on Monster Island

edit

The article Jules Verne's 'Mystery on Monster Island has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This page is a redirect from an apparent implausible typo, as it lacks a closing quote (in an already uncommon spelling). The likely intended redirect page has since been created at Jules Verne's 'Mystery on Monster Island'.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Poga — (talk) 08:25, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Wintersthrashinbb.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:19, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Winters-DrJekyl.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Winters-DrJekyl.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I saw your comment at Sisyphos23's talk page about changing the license on this image. It doesn't really matter the amount of work done to the image to clean it up, it's still copyrighted since it was published in 1935 or so. The image was merely cleaned up and not altered to change it in any major way. It would still have to be a fair-use image. Hope that helps! – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 07:28, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:34-09-Black mask.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:34-09-Black mask.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 22:50, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Islewood.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Islewood.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:08, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

fixed it in good faith to the best of my current abilities. If this is still not up to snuff, steps can be taken to have it unimpeachable. It just seems like a big waste of time to have to do such on something as inconsequential as a sales brochure for a building, then owned by person that gave me the sales brochure to use in an article about the building which was the subject of an article. I have a 100% rate of getting images I care about, staying on WP. See the Paul Newman one as an example. Same source as this. I got him to ask his webmaster to post the disputed image on his official website with the correct license. In this case, I dispute the dispute, and do not wish to be required to bother someone, while they are directing a movie in Florida, to get his www updated for something so trivial as the subject of this dispute. But I will, if it comes down to that. Let it go. It is legal, the owner said so and that can be proven. ~ К3вину (RSVP) (What) 22:04, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I jumped in on the talk page. But will probably end up editing the page for Wayzata to clarify the confusion of which I speak. I was a resident of Minnetonka, with a Wayzata zip code and a student of Hopkins Schools. This may explain my motivation. A geo map of post office will illustrate the region of which I discuss. But there is no named area. It is a defacto census designated place by virtue of common zip code, and multiple jurisdictions. thank you greatly for the heads up. But as I understand thinking a 5 year old article makes wikipoedia a worse place than it could be, I do not see the value in destroying content that is true and completing of a topic. If a fraction of the energy put into trolling to delete, was put toward creating content, we would have far fewer stubs. As a content creator, the joy of seeing a stub get expanded by impassioned editors, and guessing the article may have never been written had not been for the initiative of the stub creator, is like a literary and educational equivalent to a child growing up and blossoming. I guess I have more a live and let live, albeit create and let sit policy. ~ К3вину (RSVP) (What)
First of all, you should know that this is the first article I've ever AfD'd (I think), so I hardly fall into the camp of excising Wikipedia of all but the most stringently-acceptable content. That being said, I didn't see any likelihood that this article would be expanded significantly beyond what it is now, and as a first-time visitor to the article myself, I was disappointed at the lack of content. I believe that this sort of experience is somewhat detrimental to the encyclopedia, and while I agree that stubs in general should be left for future expansion, this one seemed to warrant consideration for merging/deletion. I will leave it to the community to decide, of course. Thanks for your response. --Fru1tbat (talk) 23:31, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Woah fellow wikipedean, I know nothing about you. We both agree we want wikipedia to be a better place. This is not me saying you are a troll, but speak of those trolling for articles to delete or criticize, without fixing expanding or helping. You may well be a super fan of Hazelwood and were hoping for the ultimate treatise of his least remembered song. Finding it in such a stub state with no interest it became your nomination. My point about deleters or taggers, is the energy put into the act of making the latterday newspeak dictionary thinner and thinner, could be instead plowed into looking in the all music guide, rolling stone archives, google book search to expand it with things of great topical import. But if it takes time for a stub with an audience to take root so be it. Wikipedia started as a stub to what was to be a real great online encyclopedia, but the vetting process took so long people started just writing into the wiki. How far we've come. Please, if you are so inclined, look up a few topics here, for Pat Odaniel and his hillbilly boys. A strongly opinioned merger/deleter decided two articles were "close enough" but never bothered to merge the differing content. I could care less about Friday's child, my beef is the culture of delete, vote, nobody cares, outcome whatever - discourages people from creating new articles. I lost track of the number of half baked stubs I started 5 years ago, but, start them I did. Combining this into a larger article about the album or tv special is a perfectly fine solution, but really, is a long drawn out vote of this article's merits worth anybody's time? ~ К3вину (RSVP) (What)
Point(s) taken - and I didn't mean to sound so defensive in my previous reply. --Fru1tbat (talk) 02:10, 8 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have defensive tendencies as well. as may be witnessed in my surreal but successful undelete battle to which I assign the title The Todd house matter copied from Commons to my userspace for easier access. Saul Good ~ К3вину (RSVP) (What)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:RAW NERVE Starring Glen Ford Jan-Michael Vincent Tracy Lords (Large).JPG

edit

Thank you for uploading File:RAW NERVE Starring Glen Ford Jan-Michael Vincent Tracy Lords (Large).JPG.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:06, 3 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:RaquelMayan.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:RaquelMayan.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 21:07, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

2019 US Banknote Contest

edit
  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Imperial court templates

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Imperial court templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read!
