Subject of college football and Wikipedia
editHi Jweiss. I love your work on Wikipedia to support college football. Thanks for helping out in that capacity. It's a small goal of mine to try and help out with the creation of college football as a source for pure information on Wikipedia, but I feel a bit overwhelmed at times when I think of how this opportunity is wasted by fans and supporters of their teams that never come on Wikipedia to present facts and information about their athletes, coaches, and teams. When I check out the different athletes-- and nothing is written about each (or very little), it makes me feel that this outlet is being wasted--or lost as in an opportunity to inform--, but it should be an opportunity to have fun and simply list the data and performances of how these athletes are doing. I feel that what we have here is World Book Encyclopedia online with our Wikipedia outlet. My mother sold World Book Encyclopedias when I was a kid before getting back into teaching fulltime. And that's my goal with helping out, is to make this as such--an easy access form of World Book Encyclopedia type of info to inform the world off the internet. I saw the SEC quarterback box you placed on Aaron Murray's biography! Looks great! I have so many other players and athletes that'd like to chronicle and document their stories, but it's hard with the time limit that many of us must feel. Thanks for your effort though--and God bless you. Rod Hayes (talk) 18:12, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
- Rod, thanks for your compliments and your efforts on Wikipedia as well. Little by little, we will continue to build this into the best resource on college football and many, many other topics. Let me know if I can help with anything your are working on. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 05:51, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

- Tony, good catch. I checked it against Yahoo (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/players/182642), which I now see is wrong. They've short-changed his 2010 total. Thanks for making the correction. Jweiss11 (talk) 06:44, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

GT football
editI noticed you recently made several edits involving GT football related articles, without providing any explanation, other than stating what you deleted. Please provide an explanation for these edits, such as deleting starting QB succession boxes, deleting "unneeded" links, etc. Thanks Mistercontributer (talk) 02:02, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Mistercontributer, WikiProject College football has established a consensus with buy-in from related projects such as WikiProject College Basketball and WikiProject National Football League that succession boxes should not be used to note positional successions, and that navboxes should be used instead. Navboxes are efficient and dynamic while succession boxes are cumbersome and sloppy. This all amounts to an effective moratorium on succession boxes for college football articles. If you'd like to put together a navbox for GT QBs of the form found at Category:American college football quarterback navigational boxes, that would be awesome, and I'd be happy to help. As for the deleting "unneeded" links, if you are referring to edits like the one I made at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football, it should go without saying that links to unofficial YouTube videos made by a fan should not be listed in the external links section of a Wikipedia article. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 03:08, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback. I will work on the navbox for GT starting quarterbacks. I moved the links for the videos to my user page:Link. Thanks again Mistercontributer (talk) 02:07, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
- Awesome, thanks. I'll keep about eye out for that navbox. Jweiss11 (talk) 13:47, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

2012 University of Tennessee in Knoxville football team
editI think you may have removed a little to much on the page, you may not have finished if so okay. The information about them losing the game to in-state rival Vanderbilt and the University fireing after needs to be on the page somewhere. Maybe you can place it in the coaching section. Have a great weekend MDSanker 22:56, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. I was making some quick cleanup efforts earlier today as I swept through the last of the 2012 season articles that were still listed as Future-class and needed to be reassessed. I just went back and beefed the lead back up a bit on the Tennessee article. You enjoy the weekend as well. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 00:59, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Consensus All-American selection process
editJW: Head's up. The consensus selection process stated in several of the recent All-American lists is incorrectly described. teeny tiny technical point
editJW, is there supposed to be a hard return between the Persondata and Defaultsort templates? I don't believe there is . . . please confirm at your convenience so we both know. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:55, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know if there's an official policy here. I've been adding them where I've noted them missing for at least the past few months. It looks neater that way and there's no reason those two structures need to be butted up against one another without a nice blank line for clarity. Jweiss11 (talk) 18:41, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I went in the other direction. Three years ago, I started out adding the hard return between the codes because it looked neater to me, too, and then a couple of old-timers schooled me and referred me to some guideline on point that I cannot find now. I'm pretty sure that there exists a guideline on point that determines the sequence for the end of article codes; there's certainly one for determining the order of the See also, References, Bibliography and External links sections. I'll keep looking for it. I'm pretty sure it exists and didn't hallucinate the whole thing. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:49, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- If there is a guideline for the space, or lack thereof, on that hard return, it should be changed. Jweiss11 (talk) 18:54, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Delete and recreate - why?
editPlease explain why you keep requesting deletion and recreation of talk pages. You provide a link to User:WP 1.0 bot but that gives me no clue as why you making the request. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 17:41, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- RHaworth, I requested this for Talk:Siena Saints football and Talk:St. John's Red Storm football because those two articles keep appearing in every run of Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/College football articles by quality log. It was suggested to me that deleting and recreating the task pages would remedy that problem. This was done for Talk:Saint Peter's Peacocks football a few days ago. That article was also appearing in every run of College football articles by quality log and the deletion/recreation remedied the problem. Jweiss11 (talk) 05:19, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for that info. and for using a better message in this db tag. However: the last run of the report was 2013-02-10 03:09:39. I did the delete and re-instate on 2013-02-11 17:36:53. There is no point in doing another delete and re-instate until the report has run again. Assuming the action works, please copy your explanation to the User:WP 1.0 bot page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:38, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- RHaworth, thanks for executing the delete and re-instate. I did not realize that had been done already. I look forward to seeing the next run of the report. I expect the issue to be fixed. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 16:42, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
CFB Division I team navboxes
editHey, JW, take at look at this: [1] and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football#New navbox rivalry/trophy game format. Thanks, Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 12:39, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I noticed some of this as many of the navboxes in question here are on my watchlist. Mixed feelings here. Some good and some bad. Jweiss11 (talk) 13:41, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- Please also see the Florida-specific comments on my talk page. Clearly, adding redundant redirects (trophy names) to the already linked rivalry articles is unnecessary, contrary to linking policy, and a little bit goofy. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:01, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- DL, I agree about the redundancy and goofiness. The whole realm of rivalries and trophies is ripe for more cleanup and merger. We never finished that job. That being said, we shouldn't be debating the significance of a rivalry at the navbox. If the article exists, e.g. Florida Cup, it goes in the navbox. If the significance of the Florida Cup is in question, then it should be AFD'd/merged. Jweiss11 (talk) 14:07, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- I still have a list of targeted CFB rivalry articles for AfD from December 2011. Give me a week to recover from this RfA debacle, and I'll be ready to pursue it. As we started to do 14 months ago, I think we bring 4 or 5 rivalry articles at a time for discussion at WT:CFB, and determine if we have an internal rough consensus for deletion of each article. If we do, then we submit them individually to AfD. Makes no sense to take a particular article to AfD if it's going to cause a food fight among WP:CFB regulars at AfD. Let's focus on the low-hanging fruits -- of which there are between 15 and 30 -- for outright deletion. Then we start pursuing trophy-rivalry merges where they make sense, again pursuing the least contentious first, with the harder calls kicked down the road. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:53, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good plan about the rivalry articles. I was following your RfA. That was some wild shit. Jweiss11 (talk) 15:09, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

University of Michigan Olympians
editJW, perhaps you, Cbl, Tony or one of your other talk-page stalkers might have some interest in creating a List of University of Michigan Olympians? It would parallel similar lists for the University of Florida, Princeton and other major university contributors of Olympic athletes. Good references are available, and I'm happy to point the way for anyone who wants to create this list, including a roster of swimmers, sources, etc. There is a partial list included in List of University of Michigan sporting alumni, but it's not even close to complete. Let me know. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:22, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- I appreciate the suggestion, but that not really all that up my alley. I have a bunch of little cleanup projects I'm working on now, and when those are done, I'd like to get back to chipping away at more college football coach bios. I'll let Cbl, Tony or whoever else tackle this one. Jweiss11 (talk)

East Carolina Pirates future football schedules
editJW, don't we have an internal WP:CFB policy regarding future schedules? If we don't, we probably should. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 00:59, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Official hex colors: University of Minnesota, etc.
editHey, JW. I've been reviewing all of the DragoLink sock edits to the hex colors for CFB navboxes and other templates of the related universities as I encounter them. Most recently, I corrected the official hex colors for the University of Minnesota here. I assume that you will want to fix the colors for the entire family of related Minnesota navboxes and templates. More importantly, I think that it's time that we systematically review the hex colors used in our navboxes, and conform them to the official hex colors selected by the universities for web use. In reviewing 30+ of them, I have found only a handful of universities that have not selected official hex colors, and are still relying on the Pantone Matching System (PMS) or other color definitions for their online color definitions. (Many, if not most, are still using PMS color definitions for their hard-copy print publications.) If we are proactive in this area, and we document the official hex colors with links to the universities' online standards, we could eliminate most if not all of the color tinkering by the likes of Drago. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:35, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- If this becomes an initiative, I recommend setting up a subpage a la Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Archived yearbooks or Wikipedia:WikiProject College basketball/Research sources that can be linked to in WP:CFB and WP:CBBALL's side bars. In fact, the college basketball, football and baseball WikiProjects should all have an official hex subpage link, since those are the only three college-sports-specific projects on here. The hex page could be something like Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/School hex colors. Jrcla2 (talk) 15:13, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent suggestions, Jrcla. One additional point, however, bears mentioning: as I'm sure you know, there are much larger families of navboxes and templates for many universities that extend beyond those for their respective college football, basketball and baseball teams. For instance, there are 33 Florida Gators sports navboxes, 17 of which are for sports other than the "Big Three," and there are at least two more for the university and its presidents. There should be a systematic effort to conform the color schemes of all navboxes within a given university's navbox family to the university's official hex colors. Using the master template system you've suggested would allow us to better synchronize and maintain the universities' official hex color schemes, as well making it easier to monitor unauthorized changes.
- I would suggest that we do an RfC for the college football, basketball and baseball projects, and then after sports project consensus is established, invite the WikiProject Universities folks to join us. The second step would make it comprehensive and binding policy across all university-related navboxes. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:08, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry to insert myself in this, but in a sense these pages already exist, though without any references. {{CollegePrimaryHex}} and {{CollegeSecondaryHex}} are semi-protected templates which could accomplish exactly what Jrcla2 is discussing above. A documentation page could provide a list with references to ensure we have the right colors. The semi-protection would also be a step towards preventing socks from tampering with the colors so easily. Billcasey905 (talk) 15:26, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- No need to apologize, Bill; all the cool kids have JW's talk page on their watch lists. I think your suggestion is an excellent one. I also note that Frietjes, who is one of the better template coders I've encountered, recently created a template for the University of Florida/Florida Gators official hex colors called {{University of Florida/style}}. I don't pretend to understand how it's coded or how it works, but it apparently does exactly what the older templates do which you've described above. Perhaps someone should invite her to join this conversation, too, as there's no reason to have duplicate colors systems that have no functional distinctions. I imagine she will probably have some insight to offer on the best way to structure these efforts. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:08, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comments here. Yes, these colors schemes should all be standardized and centralized. WikiProject Sports should probably be brought into the fold here. Perhaps, Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/College Ice Hockey task force as well? Jweiss11 (talk) 05:49, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- Probably so. I actually now think that the subpage should actually be located at WikiProject Universities: since all school-related navboxes will be affected (not just sports), it seems more logical to have all of our sports WikiProjects link to them rather than randomly choose one of ours and have them link to us. Maybe Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities/School hex codes, for instance. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:05, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- Jrcla, I would be quite content to have the final results buried on a WP Universities subpage, under the scope of that project. From a strictly political standpoint, I also believe that the quickest way to get this done would be to achieve an initial consensus among the Big Three college sports projects first. The sports projects have the experience in dealing with these issues; as best I can tell, there have been very few ongoing standardization efforts by WP Universities and the project has a far lower level of editor participation. Just saying -- I'm content to follow the lead of others on this one. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:34, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

editThank you for cleaning up my article. Its my first big one and you can tell I worked on it over several days; the tense and phrasing weren't consistent. I wasn't sure about tense or structure so thank you for giving me a template! I figured there was some standardized way to do things and I'm learning a lot just looking at the edits you made. All the best to ya!

Plvcolin (talk) 21:08, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- Colin, thanks for the message. Yeah, I noticed your edit on Tommy Mills, which I've done some work on in the past and have on my watchlist. From there, I ended up at Creighton Bluejays men's basketball and saw your recent expansion. Thanks for all your work there. I just did some quick clean-up mostly to fix capitalization and formatting in the section headings. Much of the article could be better sourced. You have a number of citations which just link to the Creighton website. More specific links to individual pages in a media guide, or better yet, third-party newspaper articles or almanacs would be better. The trivia section towards to the bottom of the article, which I realize is a relic from before your edit, should be eliminated and its content integrated into other parts of the article where appropriate. Also, check out Wikipedia:Dash, which is a good reference for when to use dashes vs. hyphens. This comes up a ton in sports article with all the game scores, won-loss records, and year spans. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to give me a shout. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 22:39, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you did in the first edit on the last page I made, I accidentally saved (and created) the page before done editing, I have correct info added now. I did add the category you did in the second edit. Is that first edit dealing with the hyphen vs dash issue you mentioned?
Plvcolin (talk) 23:19, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, that edit I made was to move or change the name of the article so it has an endash instead of hyphen. You can see that other college basketball seasons articles are punctuated this way. Jweiss11 (talk) 23:22, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Deleting infobox parameters

John Mackey (American football)
editHello Jweiss, we met briefly in NYC at Social Media Week (I was the moderator). I recall that we talked football then, and it's a funny thing that I happened to notice that just last week you'd made a small edit on a Talk page where I have a request. I've just started working with the NFLPA, and my first project is to correct some false information on an article about a past president, John Mackey (American football). I posted an explanation and {{request edit}} tag on the article's Talk page (see here) however I have not had any luck finding assistance yet. Since I avoid direct edits on articles where I have a COI, might you be willing to take a look at it and possibly make the change? Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 12:52, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- William, thanks for the message. How's it going? I remember you, of course, and we did indeed talk football, about the Oregon Ducks in particular. I saw your post about the John Mackey article on Wikipedia:WikiProject American football talk page, which prompted be to make some quick clean-up edits. I have the WikiProject American football talk page on my watchlist, but the project is not very active, and actually the John Mackey article doesn't really fall into its scope. WikiProject American football is intended to cover basic concepts of the game and articles like ones about high school football and minor/non-US leagues that don't have a more specific WikiProject dedicated to them. I think you will have better luck getting feedback on edits to the John Mackey article or similar ones by posting at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football and/or Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League. At any rate, I've been pretty busy the past few days and haven't done much Wikipedia editing of late. Apologies for the delayed response. I was just about to take another look at your suggestion, but I see that another editpr has made your suggested edit earlier day. You are correct that the Mackey article has a number of problems. It could certainly use some more work. Let me know if anything else comes up. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 20:53, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi again, Jweiss! Thanks for the reply, and no worries at all about the delay, I know how it is. Good clarification on the purpose of the American football wikiproject, too, I'm afraid I hadn't read carefully enough. But I did also post at WP:NFL, and as you noted, I found the help I needed with it. On behalf of the NFLPA, I will have more requests about NFL subjects ahead. If you find yourself with any free time and are willing to look over the suggestions I'll make, I'd appreciate it! If nothing else, I may ask for your advice on getting around these wikiprojects, since I haven't spent much time here before. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 23:34, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Harry Heller.png)
editThanks for uploading File:Harry Heller.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. editthat web site is most certainly a definitive resource on pro football deaths and for living players. I am not sure where you get your information, hopefully not from the nfl.com or any other web site that just copies info from each other. I am not being mean here but who are you to delete my postings on wik? I have made numerous VALID changes and additions that have only enhanced the data about these players. I am a pro football historian that only deals in accurate information! I know what I am doing. Please do not delete any more of my posts or I will do the same to you. IF you have any further questions, you can contact me at jimz826@aol.com and I will give you my phone number. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tnspro (talk • contribs) 06:00, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Akron Zips football
editJweiss11, I think I've done enough work on Akron Zips football for it to have the stub rating removed. I know it's still got some more work to do, but I think it'd be nice to remove a stub tag from the College Football Project. Thanks! DMC511 (talk) 19:17, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for you work there. I see a number of formatting issues right off the bat, which I will try to address when I have time, but it's certainly at least Start-class now. I've re-rated the article accordingly. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 03:55, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

- Tjmcconnell, thanks for the barnstar and thank you for uploading that image! The fix was just a matter of removing a little bit of code; see here. That infbox just needs the file name of the image to be added. Jweiss11 (talk) 16:31, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Same guy?
editHi Jweiss11. First, I'm going to say that User:Cbl62 is the best editor I've ever seen at digging up historical resources and verifying cases of "is this the same person?" That being said, I think you're pretty darn good at it too. I left Cbl a message (found here) but he might be busy and hasn't gotten back to me. Do you have any inclination to see if you can tackle this potential case of same-identity? If not no biggie. Thanks! Jrcla2 (talk) 13:26, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
- Cbl62 is indeed a great researcher and editor. I found this 1946 NY Times article that says Tom Scott of the Brooklyn Dodgers was 26 at the time. Blurb from another article found here says the Brooklyn Dodgers coach played at Army in the 1940s. So, looks it's not the same guy as Tommy Scott (coach). Jweiss11 (talk) 03:15, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking into it. It makes me wonder how many duplicate articles exist without anyone realizing. Jrcla2 (talk) 12:36, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
Hey - as one of the aforementioned article's main contributors, I just wanted to send a heads-up that I've made a variety of (I hope) improvements and added refs. Give it a look if you have a few minutes; I'm considering submitting it as a GA, but I suspect there are places where I've slipped up or crucial things that are still missing. I've got a few books I can mine sourcing from, if need be. --Batard0 (talk) 11:56, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up and nice job on the article. Made a couple minor tweaks to the infobox for formatting and consistency. I upgraded to the article to B class as well. I will take a closer look when I have more time and see if I can add anything. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 00:34, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent - thanks for taking a gander. --Batard0 (talk) 05:08, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Carlos Brown (American football)
editIn looking at some Mich. football articles, it appears that the article you started on Carlos Brown (American football) has been heavily vandalized. I'm not sure what's vandalism and what's not, but thought you'd want to know. Cbl62 (talk) 04:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up here. I just reverted the article back to the version from April 1, before the flurry of vandalism. TonyTheTiger did the bulk of the development of this article. May be worth looping him in as well to take a look. Jweiss11 (talk) 04:30, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

editI thought you should be aware that your name is being dragged through the mud over at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2013 August 15#College sports retired numbers. I'm staying out of the rest of the nomination because I've already made my opinion known and see no point in instigating a war over it, but you at least ought to know someone clearly has beef with you and is making that opinion expressed. Jrcla2 (talk) 13:23, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Jrcla2, thanks the for heads up. I actually saw this yesterday as it popped up as a notification for me. Yes, CrazyPaco's beef with me over the navboxes has gone on now for nearly two years. Nothing new. Jweiss11 (talk) 03:17, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Categories question
editI see where back in February you created Category:NCAA Division I Football Champions and Category:NCAA Division II Football Champions. Shouldn't the names be different? Here's what I'd think they ought to be:
- Category:NCAA Division I Football Champions → Category:NCAA Division I FCS champions per C2A/C2C
- Category:NCAA Division II Football Champions → Category:NCAA Division II football champions per C2A/C2C
Thoughts? Jrcla2 (talk) 15:20, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- But the names of these championships are proper names: NCAA Division I Football Championship and NCAA Division II National Football Championship. And consider that we have Category:NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship seasons. Maybe it should be Category:NCAA Division I Football Championship seasons and Category:NCAA Division II Football Championship seasons. That would suggest a bunch more category name changes for college football championship seasons; see Category:College football conference champion seasons and Category:College football bowl champion seasons. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:56, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- I see your point. I'm not overly concerned with its naming convention, so I'll just let it go. Thanks! Jrcla2 (talk) 12:34, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

User:UCO2009bluejay
editJweiss, can you please bring this editor under your wing? He's a new college football editor and he clearly has very little idea of what he's doing (e.g. creating misnamed categories, then blanking them without placing {{userreq}} or {{db-empty}} tags on them; not adhering to proper category structure; not knowing when to use capital letters in naming conventions, etc.). It's been frustrating for me to play janitor and clean up most of his edits. I prefer college basketball, with a dabble into college football, but going behind someone's edits to make sure they're not messing up football edits repeatedly is taxing for me. If you don't want to drop him a line, I understand. Thanks for considering. Jrcla2 (talk) 13:41, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Irv Wisniewski - revert
editI'm curious why the addition of the YouTube link was reverted in the Irv Wisniewski article. Links to YouTube are not prohibited, see WP:YOUTUBE, and the link doesn't seem to violate any of the items in WP:LINKSTOAVOID or WP:ELNEVER. The link is evidence that Coach Wisniewski was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame, which is a reasonable and important addition to the article. Thanks, in advance, for your reply. Truthanado (talk) 18:30, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Truthanado, thanks for the message. The issue with this YouTube video is that it's essentially a random choice of material since it's neither an official website related to Wisniewski nor a structural listing for Wisniewski at a widely-regarded website, e.g. http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/irvin-wisniewski-1.html?redir at Sports Reference. If we list this YouTube video as an external link, why not also some newspaper article from 1950 talking about Wisniewski's hiring at Hillsdale...and on and on...and we end up with a link farm. However, such an article and this YouTube video are surely acceptable as sources for inline references in the article. Jweiss11 (talk) 19:23, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Jweiss11, thanks for the reply. I added this as an external link because I'vbe always considered External Links to be of less importance than References. Since you comment that the YouTube video is acceptable as an inline reference, I have updated the article to include that. Thanks again. Truthanado (talk) 20:32, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think that external links are to be of less importance than references. If anything, external links are going to a more select set of resources. At any rate, your last edit was certainly a good one as it enhanced the body of the article. All the best, Jweiss11 (talk) 07:49, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

- DMC511, I haven't had a chance yet to take a close look at this article since your recent expansion, but I see pervasive misuse of hyphens throughout. Date ranges, won-loss records, and scores should be punctuated with endashes. In the various lists toward the bottom of the page, you have also hyphens misused where commas, colons, or some other punctuation mark would be better. Take a look at Michigan Wolverines football for some better ideas on formatting. When you get a chance to clean that stuff up, let me know and I can take a closer look at the substantive content. Thanks for all your efforts here, Jweiss11 (talk) 06:25, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
I did some work on the lead; what do you think? Ultimately, I plan to improve the article to GA status, so the intermittent rating is rather inconsequential, however I just thought it would be good to get your take on it. Thanks. Go Phightins! 01:46, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Go Phightins!, the lead is much improved. I made a few more edits for style and flow. There are two contentious items in the lead; 1) "Most predicted..." and 2) " though there was speculation that O'Brien forced them out". You may be planning to expand on these topics in the body. They certainly need to be well supported with references somewhere. Thanks for your efforts, Jweiss11 (talk) 02:08, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- The O'Brien forced them out part is speculated in the ref that substantiates their departure, but I do plan to elaborate on that. I thought I had included preseason predictions, but I guess not ... I will; thanks for the feedback! Go Phightins! 12:43, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Larry Isbell, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Washington (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
