edit1) Further to your posting on my talk page on 21 October 2014, have you resolved the problem, or do you still need help?
2) I can't seem to access http://en.dcnsgroup.com/press/new-dcns/. Can you supply me with a URL to the original 1000x667 pixels photo please?
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, well apparently the low-res rule isn't enforced that strictly and its just a bot that had been resizing the photo, anyway that should be solved, considering the new resolution is pretty reasonable.
- With regards to the DCNS website, it appears their company has gone through some restructuring because well, it looks nothing like it used to be, and when I search their new media library for photos of ships(not just the gowind) it says they have no content to display. So it seems either the IT guy screwed up or they deleted all their media on the website. A case of link rot I guess.
- Anyway, there are two mirror sites which host the photo and they both say the copyright holder is DCNS. Meretmarine is a french pay-to-view defence website and at the bottom corner they attribute the image to DCNS. The photo they host is the original 1000x667 resolution but you have to inspect element if you want to extract the photo though. Defence-studies is a amateur Singaporean hosted defence blog which also attributes the image to DCNS, though they host a scaled down resolution of 500x334. Maybe we could change the source of image to the meretmarine source?

File permission problem with File:FN-16 MANPADS.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:FN-16 MANPADS.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:56, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:FN-16 MANPADS.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:FN-16 MANPADS.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text

below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 19:04, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:IRKUT Logo.svg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:IRKUT Logo.svg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Advanced Semiconductor Engineering

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Advanced Semiconductor Engineering for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

Your contributed article, List of largest Malaysian banks
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, List of largest Malaysian banks. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – :List of Banks in Malaysia. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at :List of Banks in Malaysia – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. GLG GLG (talk) 02:57, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Democratic Action Party-related page moves
editHi Junchuann and Autospark -- I notice that editor Autospark recently moved the page about the Malaysian DAP which was at "DAP" to "DAP (Malaysia)", and notice that was reversed just now by editor Junchuann has moved "DAP (Malaysia)" back to "DAP". I appreciate that you both care about improving wikipedia in this topic area. I arrived because "DAP" as a disambiguation page was temporarily the target of 400 or so incoming links, which, as part of Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links I was working to clear, one by one, by changing Malaysian article usages to direct to "DAP Malaysia" (after someone else already updated the related templates that way). Is there a disagreement that can be discussed? The issue must be whether or not the Malaysian "DAP" get wp:PRIMARYUSAGE for the term, right? It should be discussed at a formal wp:RM requested move to call in others to decide, taking a week or 30 days or some length of time like that, if there is serious disagreement.
But first I wonder if it could be settled easily between you two. Offhand I was thinking that Autospark's move was a good one, because there are multiple other parties of that name, now and historically. On the other hand, there sure are a lot of Wikipedia articles about Malaysia that use DAP to mean the Malaysian DAP, and Malaysia is way larger than Moldova (which is one other current user) and way larger than Malta (a former user). There are other current and past usages too. Unless I learned more, I would be inclined to go with Autospark's move. If the reason to move it back is simply that the change was requiring a lot of disambiguating edits in the Malaysia articles, I don't think that should be a consideration really. Because I and others are willing to do those edits. The edits done so far are fine no matter what, and don't need to be changed either way, because the "DAP (Malaysia)" they point to can easily be redirected to whatever target is decided upon. But I am not the person who should decide, i don't know enough. Could you both comment on what you think should be done? Again if there is real disagreement then I think a requested move should be opened, presumably by Autospark because they wanted the change. Sincerely, --doncram 05:19, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- Political party articles on en.wiki are arranged by PARTY NAME (NATION), where PARTY NAME is often a translation from the native language into English, so it is right that the article for the party resides at Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) rather than the 'generic' page title Democratic Action Party. It does not matter that the Democratic Action Party of Malaysia is (currently) the most significant party of that name; look at it this way, the US Democratic Party is the most well-known political party in the world called the Democratic Party, but even then it is placed at Democratic Party (United States), not simply Democratic Party – and that is even when the name isn't a translation. It just makes sense to have the Malaysian party marked as such in its article name.--Autospark (talk) 11:58, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- I do not oppose the naming of DAP as DAP (Malaysia), I just felt that DAP should redirect to the Malaysian DAP instead of to a disambiguation page because it's more significant than the other articles. — Junchuann 15:20, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you to both of you. Sounds to me like there is agreement that Malaysia DAP is the most important current usage of the term, so that means whatever else it should be listed first on the disambiguation page. And I think that should be explained at the dab page, too, and I have just done that at the dab page. But, the requirement in wp:PRIMARYUSAGE is that for the Malaysia party to be at "DAP" (or for "DAP" to be a redirect to "DAP (Malaysia)") is that its usage should be greater than the combination of all other usage, and I currently don't think that is established. Plus Autospark's point about the U.S. Democratic party, and that the term is a translation into English (from Malay "Parti Tindakan Demokratik" or from Chinese or from Tamil) makes me think it is right to treat the Malaysia DAP as the largest usage (so list it first on the dab page) but not the PRIMARYUSAGE (so have it at "DAP (Malaysia)" and move the disambiguation page back to "DAP"). Considering this brief discussion, would that now be okay with you, Junchuann? (If yes, i'll ask for an admin to help implement that as non-disputed. If no, then a regular Requested Move should be opened.) No problem either way, Junchuann, just say what you think is best, now, okay? --doncram 16:52, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, DAP is not a translation from Malay. It's similar to the People's Action Party since it split off from there. Their facebook and website both use the English term. I really feel that DAP (Malaysia) should have the primary usage considering they are the only functioning party whose name is exactly DAP. The Moldovan party looks pretty dead to me considering it's website is already not maintained anymore and should probably move to defunct. I think you would agree that if Democratic Party (US) was the only functioning party in the world with that name the PRIMARYUSAGE would go to them. And I'd like to counter what you said about DAP (Malaysia) not meeting the criteria for PRIMARYUSAGE, because DAP (Malaysia) actually fulfils it in terms of article traffic statistics in the past 30 days. Since it shows that DAP (Malaysia) does indeed have more article traffic than all the others combined, it proves that it has more usage than all the other articles combined and thus fulfils the criteria for PRIMARYUSAGE. — Junchuann 01:32, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Okay that sounds reasonable, too. So Autospark needs to open a wp:Requested Move if they want to pursue this further. Although I don't think you have "proven" your case, you have supported it. I am not a betting person, but it sounds like you could have the early lead in a formal discussion, but then again who knows. Ping me if a RM is opened, please. Otherwise, thank you both for being very cooperative, and good luck to you both in your next endeavors here, whatever they may be. cheers, --doncram 09:05, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:KL118 render.jpeg
editThanks for uploading File:KL118 render.jpeg.

Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:43, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
