Two disjointed things
editThing one: since you seem to enjoy French, have you visited Second Life? To my surprise, I ran into French-speaking people there, and now chat (both in text and in voice) with more French people in a month than I had in the previous fifteen years.
Thing two: a balance to the long poem further up this list:
- FOR ANNE
- With Annie gone
- Whose eyes to compare
- With the morning sun?
- Not that I did compare
- But I do compare,
- Now that she's gone.
...there we go; better line break...

- Si tu viendras sur SL, tu me trouveras comme Ferguson Davies. OtherDave (talk) 23:32, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe chatting in text seems a bit intimidating. In that case, you might take a look at Frenchpod, a new(er) offering from the folks who started Chinesepod. The lowest level of subscription is free, a good price, but the next level up ain't bad, either. OtherDave (talk) 23:41, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- My theory is that it's easier to read than to listen, easier to write than to speak. That said, it's also true that you learn only under a certain amount of stress. It's a bit hit-or-miss to try and find French speakers on SL who will chat one-on-one (and it's REALLY easy to get confused when a group's speaking in public), but if you're eager for some practice, it's a great way to go. Moving the Venevision International Question To The Entertainment desk
editThen, would you please move that question about Venevisión International to the Entertainment desk? Ericthebrainiac (talk) 15:17, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Tinfoil
editI couldn't resist. He seemed pretty clearly a troll; lampooning is often the best weapon. OtherDave (talk) 00:19, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Issue of quantum
editHi, I saw you moved the "Issue of quantum" question from the language desk to the science desk. I found that the original poster had attempted to explain his question to you, but mistakenly placed his comment on an archive page of your talk, at [1]. This is his comment:-
"issue of quantum" as used in law regarding multiple jurisdiction....... possibly from the concept in physics about particles moving rapidly through and existing in different dimensions at the same time............ I just like the way it sounds........ planning on using it in everyday speech to impress......

Thank you
editJules, thank you so much for the message. As you said to me a few weeks ago, it is very nice indeed to be missed (does that sound funny? hope not). I've been away, partly in the Tyrolean mountains (lederhosen aplenty!), partly in Annecy. "But now I'm back again, and babe it's gonna work out fine" (Genesis, "Supper's Ready"). What's been going down, RD-wise, in my absence? Warm regards, Richard or if you will Richardrj talk email 12:24, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I started to skim through the refdesk talk page and very quickly began to lose the will to live. Maybe it would have made more sense if I hadn't tried to read it all the way through. As fr txt spk, Im nt vry gd at tht (nd my phne kps cming up w sggstns in grmn, whch s v annyng). Toodles, --Richardrj talk email 15:36, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
No.8
editCongratulations on it into the Top 10. Predictably, I am nowhere to be seen, although further research has told me I am languishing somewhere in the forties. On Ents, I'm 5th and you are 17th or so. But it's on Misc that you really shine, being 2nd! If you want to try it yourself, go here and punch "Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous" (or Humanities, Entertainment, etc) into the little boxy thing. Taking another bow, Richardrj talk email 08:29, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Seichim I'm just interested in the community at large's opinion on its notability. Just thought I'd let you know of the debate as you've contributed to the article. Sticky Parkin 00:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
A woman in white?
editAre you back in the bush, parasol in hand, daintily picking your way through lizards and other impedimenta? Regardless, come back soon – I miss you. --Richardrj talk email 10:38, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!
Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 16:30, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Don't forget the roll call and to reactivate your membership. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 07:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I don't think I will ever be as active, anyway that maybe no bad thing for everyone else. Gives others some more space to contribute. If you come across others who need a reminder, give them a nudge. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:47, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Here's another thing we have in common :)
editAm appreciation for the poetry of Jacques Prevert. Here's one of my favorites, a piece full of passion and longing, a fiercely anti-war love poem.
"Barbara"
Rappelle-toi Barbara
Il pleuvait sans cesse sur Brest ce jour-la
Et tu marchais souriante
Epanouie ravie ruisselante
Sous la pluie
Rappelle-toi Barbara
Il pleuvait sans cesse sur Brest
Et je t'ai croisee rue de Siam
Tu souriais
Et moi je souriais de meme
Rappelle-toi Barbara
Toi que je ne connaissais pas
Toi qui ne me connaissais pas
Rappelle-toi
Rappelle-toi quand meme ce jour-la
N'oublie pas
Un homme sous un porche s'abritait
Et il a crie ton nom
Barbara
