Oscar Wilde's Italian ancestry
editHi John of Lancaster,
I noticed you added Oscar Wilde to the category Irish people of Italian descent. I had not heard of this lineage before, can you point me towards any information on the subject? Thanks and best wishes, --Ktlynch (talk) 15:51, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Boyle's national affiliation
editWould it be fair to say Boyle was Irish-born? As I read it he lived there until the age of about ten. I think this changing things back and forth often ends in tears, so to speak, or the loss of a contributor who does useful work elsewhere. Bmcln1 (talk) 18:59, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Boyle again
editHow can someone who died in 1691, 16 years before the Acts of Union 1707 which established the Kingdom of Great Britain be British? Mo ainm~Talk 21:29, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- Actually made a mistake as Kingdom of Ireland didn't become "British" for 110 years after the death of Boyle when it became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801. Mo ainm~Talk 22:01, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Please read WP:MOSBIO, which is quite explicit what is to be listed in the lead sentence. Yworo (talk) 16:23, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hey, if you think this dispute is bad, you should see the disputes on the articles of people born in Austria-Hungary (e.g. Peter Lorre) or Serbia/Croatia (e.g. Nikola Tesla). Yworo (talk) 16:51, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- No apology was necessary, but thanks anyway! Yworo (talk) 18:54, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

editYellow Submarine is listed where as a psychedelic song? If it's a reliable source, your category can stay. Radiopathy •talk• 23:45, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Requests for comment/Uncivil
editHello John of Lancaster. On 9 February 2011 you left a message on a Talk page asking a User to behave in a more civil manner. See your diff
Unfortunately, that User has not taken adequate notice of your advice, and has continued to taunt others, including newbies, with uncivil comments. For example, see this recent diff.
In recent times there have been more messages on this User's Talk page, and a couple of approaches to Wikiquette Assistance, and finally Wikipedia:Requests for comment/DocKino. In this RfC, you are mentioned by name, and your message from 9 February 2011 is among those cited as evidence of other Users having tried unsuccessfully to influence this User's behaviour. If you agree, you are entitled to endorse the RfC as a User who has tried to solve the problem. Regards. Dolphin (t) 01:59, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Following the IPs edit summary I did some searching re the documentary. Dr. Michael Foy does state 'he was a Scot, a Scots[ch?] Presbyterian...' It seems a throw-away remark, not sure how much weight can be given to it considering the text source gives his place of birth as Liverpool. FYI, the documentary can be accessed here. The comment is towards the end, at about 9.40. What do you think? RashersTierney (talk) 21:45, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
