assume good faith

edit

With the activity of meatpuppets and such like, I find the WP:AGF guideline thought provoking. An accusation of meat puppetry directly breaks the guideline, which tells one what to assume, and thus what to think. To think otherwise, to even suspect it, is not according to WP:AGF, it would seem. Jlittlenz 10:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Assume good faith" does not mean "All editors are always acting in good faith." It means "As long as a supposition of good faith is compatible with what's going on — as long as you can reasonably assume that another editor just disagrees with you, or is just figuring out how the system works, or just has bad English, or whatnot — you should continue to assume good faith and try to cooperate with that editor." —RuakhTALK 15:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:35, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ten years on, may I suggest that you give Wikipedia:MINOR another read? Basically, whenever you add content (even the most minor addition), it's not a minor edit. Schwede66 01:14, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

FYI

edit

I cross-posted your comment on donations to the fundraising page; you have a reply here. Re the local chapter, though, we've discussed it: I'm not sure we have sufficient interest or a specific enough idea what we're doing to be starting a chapter just now. sonia11:51, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Do I know you?

edit

Hi John, just wondering if you're the same John Little who used to work at the (former) Henderson Line Depot of Telecom New Zealand? If so, I used to work with you there. I was a junior linesman back in the day. AugurNZ 08:47, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

No, sorry, that's not me. There is, or at least there has been, a few of us, though I've not met any of them. I used to get calls for them because I have a listing in the phone book as John rather than J, but I think people don't use the phone book any more.

Thanks anyway, maybe I'll see you around on WikiProject New Zealand some time. All the best. AugurNZ 11:23, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

edit

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
