Pasundan map

Greetings fellow RIS editor! Thanks for uploading the new Pasundan map. However, the State of Pasundan included the modern regency of Tangerang, which at the time was part of the Residency of Batavia (one of the four parts of Pasundan along with the residencies of Buitenzorg, Cirebon and Priangan). The western border of Pasundan was a fairly straight line runing north-south: see Map 4.22 on page 126 and Map 5,17 on page 160 of Cribb's Historical Atlas of Indonesia as well as the references to the four regencies in Tuhuteru's Riwajat singkat terdirinja Negara Pasoendan, the map on page 48 of Indonesië Herleeft! (https://marnette.home.xs4all.nl/scans/dekolonisatie/RVD/herleeft.pdf) by R.V.D (1948) and on page 435 of Kahin's Nationalism and Revolution in Indonesia.

Also, the Jakarta Federal District was smaller than the present DKI - it only extended from the Cisadane River to the Bekasi River (Schiller The Formation of Federal Indonesia 1945-1949 (1955) page 387). I have found a map of the district from a 1949 document and plan to edit the Pasundan map accordingly.

Can I suggest that your map (with Tangerang Regency also in dark green) is included in the infobox, and once I have changed my version to exclude the Federal District of Jakarta, I will add it later in the article. Regards and stay well. Davidelit(Talk) 12:28, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

@Davidelit: Hi Davidelit! I always used first hand sources when making maps, and for the Jakarta Federal District. For this case, I based it on this (note that the district spans up to Bogor). For the Banten case, I based it on this photo, on which there's a map of the state of pasundan (at that time as the state of west java). You could see that the map also includes Banten and highlighted Jakarta, although everybody knows that Pasundan never controlled Banten. Jeromi Mikhael (talk) 13:49, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the response. I have the same resource for the Federal District map, but I disagree with your interpretation of it. Regarding foreign language sources, as you know, one of the biggest problems for those of us on the Indonesia project is finding unbiased sources - New Order historical materials are terrible - especially anything Nugroho Notosusanto was involved with. And even Kahin was not totally unbiased - he and Ide Anak Agung Gde Agung had very different views about the nature of the RIS, with Agung much closer to the Dutch position (until 1948). However I think information about factual things, such as the borders of state, is not so untrustworthy. I'm also not sure about your statement regaridngs Pasundan's claim to Banten. The map in the photo is very unclear, and in any case, "West Java" was the name of the pre-war province established by the Dutch before Second World War - it wasn't used for Pasundan after the 3rd West Java conference, so it might be an old map. I'll send you an email later with an explanation of what I mean about the map. @Davidelit: I've assesed the source that you send me, and I'm confused; why does your source (Schiller) links back to the "Bestuursvragstukken" book I've seen before?
