You were the first to welcome me to the community and I appreciate your help. This is a wonderful potential world. I understand your position about the ads...but on IMDB one is FORCED to see the ad on the top.

Video is all new, and we must create new rules if this is going to work. There are copyright issues...and that is my strength. I posted in the general comments area that my family owns evtv1 and I use that site because I know the copyright issues. My family also happens to own British Pathe but the clips are not yet ready for Internet.

I am willing to do this work because I love it, but if my additions get deleted, I will be wasting my time. Is there some authority I can appeal to to resolve this once and for all? One admin says the ability to purchase a video (half the cases) is the reason they deleted the link...others like yourself suggest it is the commercial.

But there are so many external links in Wiki that go to commercial sites, so this is not persuasuive. But I am spending a lot of time with admins and I understand what I am doing is rather new. By the way, I was going to add Desmond Tutu clips today...and they are precious from an historical aspect.

Any suggestion on how I might stop this continuous struggle? Is there a council that I can take this to?

Jeandre, thanks again. Violation could be used on two grounds. 1) my family owns evtv1 and 2) someone can suggest ads are "excessive", which is subjective.

Regading #1) I use evtv1 because I know about the copyright issues. Linking to other sites could easily be violating copyright...many sites do not have permission to put video on their site but do anyway.

You contacted me recently through email. I cannot seem to get a fair trial on this site. I tried to compromise by putting in the following passage, which includes Tenebrae's as well. I am sorry for bothering you here but I do not know how to work this site.

Tech Enters the 21st Century

In February 1993, Dr. Lee D. McCaskill took over as principal of Brooklyn Tech. During his next 13 years as principal, Tech saw many changes both inside and outside the school that would change it forever. During the 90s, Tech was revolutionized with the installation of more computer classrooms and the switch from the more traditional mechnical drawing by hand to the use of programs such as CAD. The school also offers a two-year course to provide its computer science graduates with a Cisco Certified Newtork Associate's license.

Outside the school, the gentrification of Fort Greene helped the school immensely. Once vacant lots that dotted the side streets had become bustling with residential homes and new businesses. Travel to and from Tech became safer as did all travel in New York City during the 1990s as crime rates fell. Today Tech is in one of the best real estate markets and in the center of a growing downtown area with the addition of Metrotech and the soon-to-be built basketball arena for the Nets.

The Alumni Association grew as well during the 90s. The Association started to host not only homecomings at the school every April, but also gatherings on Long Island, Florida, and the West Coast. This increased network was the driving force in raising the $10 million goal that was recently completed on November 2005.

With state-of-the-art computer classrooms, its location in a popular neighborhood, and the support of its alumni, Brooklyn Technical High School is poised for greatness to come as we begin this new century. After 13 years at the helm, Dr. Lee McCaskill retired as principal of Tech on February 6, 2006, making him one of the longest running principals at Tech. He entered the school as one of the youngest principals to ever head a specialized high school. The urban blight of the 1980s had not only deteriorated Tech, but also the entire school system and the city. As technology changed rapidly during the 90s, Tech being a power in technology and science had to keep up to maintain its competiveness.

During his last years, Dr. McCaskill's issues with the faculty, and after the revelation of a violation of New York City Department of Education rules, he decided to retire.2 For instance, in 2003, The New York Times published an investigative article that noted "longstanding tensions" between the faculty and Principal McCaskill, which "spilled into the open in October, with news reports that several teachers accused him of repeatedly sending sexually explicit e-mail messages from his school computer to staff members".2 The article, by education columnist Michael Winerip, described the principal as autocratic, controlling the school "largely through fear and intimidation", and documented acts of personal vindictiveness toward teachers; severe censorship of the student newspaper and of assigned English texts, including the refusual to let the Pulitzer Prize-finalist novel Continental Drift by Russell Banks be used for a class; and of bureaucratic mismanagement. The aticle also quoted praise from McCaskill's supervising superintendent, Reyes Irizarry, who cited the principal's expansion of music and sports programs.

A follow-up column in 20043 found the situation had worsened due to increased teacher exodus, and documented Principal McCaskill's campaign against Alice Alcala, described as one of the city's leading Shakespeare teachers. Alcala had won Brooklyn Tech a $10,000 grant and brought in the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain for student workshops. "When [McCaskill] tried killing her Shakespeare program", Winerip wrote, "she went over his head to the central administration and got it reinstated. The day after she was quoted in news articles criticizing Dr. McCaskill, she received an unsatisfactory classroom observation rating for the first time in 28 years of teaching. She was repeatedly denied access to the auditorium and in June, got an unsatisfactory for the year." Alcala left for Manhattan's Murry Bergtraum High School, where she shortly thereafter brought in $1,800 in grants for Shakespeare education, while at Brooklyn Tech, the article reported, there was no longer any course solely devoted to Shakespeare.

The Office of Special Investigations of the New York City Department of Education launched an investigation of Dr. McCaskill on February 2, 2006, concerning unpaid enrollment of New Jersey resident McCaskill's daughter in a New York City school, which is illegal for non-residents of the city. On February 6, McCaskill announced his resignation from Brooklyn Tech and agreed to pay $19,441 in restitution.

On February 8, 2006, the Board of Education announced that as of March 1, 2006, Randy Asher, founding principal of the High School for Math, Science and Engineering, will be replacing Dr. McCaskill as interim acting principal. [1] Mr. Asher is no stranger to Tech. He served as Tech's assistant principal in mathematics from 2000-2002 before leaving to start up a new competitive high school. During his time at Tech, as the sequential math Regents was being phased out, the math department had the discretion of creating its own curriculum for the new Math A and Math B Regents. Mr. Asher took the role of ensuring that the curriculum for a specialized high school will not only serve the purpose of preparing the students for the Regents, but also prepare them for higher mathematical ability in the years to come. His understanding of the students' strong ability in math and science led him to create a curriculum that was worthy of being part of a specialized education and was not supposed to be average but challenging regardless of the eventual level of difficulty of the State exam. His return, however, does not guarentee that he will be selected as the permanent principal, but with his previous success in the school, his candidacy will probably be very strongly considered.

Due to the successes in the 90s, the future principal will have a school with the proper infrastructure in place that will propel it from excellence to eminence in the next century. The new principal will be able to erase the slate of the last few years and create a new relationship with the faculty and students, and hopefully help the school advance towards an even better future.

Aside from the pretty clear copyvio, this section was an attack on a person:

It is home to Wyedean School the school attended by Joanna Rowling author of the Harry Potter Books. She lived in the neighbouring village of Tutshill. Her mother worked at the school and her character Professor Snape is said to be based on a teacher of the school called Mr John Nettleship.

While I agree that she did attend Wyedean School, she has never said anything about her basing the character of Severus Snape on anybody. In fact, she addressed this issue when rumors arose about the inspiration for the character Gilderoy Lockhart. Notice how she says "For obvious reasons I am not going to identify the person in question - however irritating he was, he does not deserve that..." She is more consistent than anybody and does not give away her inspirations easily. Here it says "One of the influences for Snape was a 'scary' teacher she had when she was 9 years old (Tutshill, near Chepstow, South Wales)." Conversations with JK Rowling, p.17. She does not mention the name of the teacher and any such mention on Wikipedia is either spiteful or unresearched. That, plus the fact that the person spelled her name wrong made it seem like the editor was uninformed and the edit deserved to be reverted. Next time, however, I will look to retain any good information. However, note that this book does not provide any labels for the stars in the constellations except for bright named stars: it does not provide any Bayer or Flamsteed designations. Remember me from yesterday? Thanks for taking the time to respond. I kind of need some help from you. I'm as green as they get at Wikipedia. But this needs to be called out. It reads "The Montgomery Academy was founded in 1959. In my opinion it was founded to provide affluent whites the opportunity to avoid sending their kids to an integrated Montgomery Public School."

The wikipedia article draws on that statement alone for its verifiability. And "opinion" becomes fact.

The wikipedia article reads "Founded in 1959 by the city's leading white citizens in response to fears of desegregation efforts in the public schools, the academy has since expanded in both diversity and academics to become one of the top elementary and high schools in Alabama." And later on, the article spells it out further.

For what it's worth, I have repeatedly asked this anonymous editor to provide a reference, any reference, for her view of the school's history. I have provided additional references, including a respected newspaper article quoting the school's headmaster as saying the school was formed b/c of desegregation. Other editors have commented that this article appears to be ballanced. If you have any problems with this, then challenge the page and template, though I can't see the foggiest reason to do so.

If you have specific content objections, that's a different matter, but utterly vague referals to hopelessly general policy pages don't even begin to give a clue - precise points could be most interesting and worthy of consideration, quite possibly leading to constructive alterations, but I can't guess them. Sorry if I posted that question in the wrong place, but the link you provided does not sufficiently answer my question. It says that in order to consolidate the two contribution lists, I have to redirect the old one into the new. All well and good except for the facts that in order to redirect a page, you have to edit a redirect command into that page -- and user contribution pages are apparently un-editable. So the directions there are really not helpful at all. If you do not want to answer my question yourself, and you don't want me to post the question where it was, can you at least point me to the right place to post it so someone can eventually give me an answer? [Trouble Editing Article] Hi, I have added some info on the article Bharatanatyam. However, I do not see it anymore. However, when I go to the edit page, I see it there. Also, when editing, and clicking on Show preview, it does not show the whole article. Can you help me? Here is the paragraph that I am talking about:

Thanks for your message, I've made a few edits in response. The 44.62 figure appears on page 4 of the CCR2005. The UN document does not cite it (unlike the 2005 number, which it explicitly does), but it includes a graph on page 18 that places it within the same rough range. I've also added a link to another source pointing to a 44.X figure for 2004 (it mentions both 44.7 and 44.2), but it's a less authoritative one than either the CNP or the UN (though part of the FS&D team worked on the UN study and is credited as such). I do agree with adding a 2005 column, if possible. As for the decade tables, either way is perfectly valid, but perhaps having the table with the latest overall information at the top might indeed make the list more user friendly, so to speak.
