FOX reporters were shot at by Georgians

edit

This is off topic, but do you have a source for this? British, Czech, Norwegian, Turkish, Canadian, Danish, Russian and Dutch journalists have all been either killed, shot at, carjacked, or robbed by Russians or Russian militias, but not a single report of Georgians harming or attempting to harm Georgians. This would be an interesting first, hence my request for a source. By the way, strikeout like this.Bdell555 (talk) 00:31, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ain't off topic to me (and I found my HTML book, never needed to strikeout before). I saw the FOX reporter (I don't know his name) and his cameraman running for their lives to a SUV were the reporter looked terrified laying on his back for protection. I know he said it was Georgians (not soldiers). He said something like the Georgians were frustrated and humiliated and were taking it out on reporters or whomever they could. The reporter said he had to run by a "fat guy". I'm sure its on FOXNews.com, probably even the video I saw. They wouldn't won't to "hide" that type of high energy footage. The only source I have right now is me watching it. I'll check FOXNews. Jason3777 (talk) 01:21, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
It was Steve Harrigan and can be found at - http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.html?maven_referralObject=3031090&maven_referralPlaylistId=&sRevUrl=http://www.foxnews.com/world/index.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,404683,00.html but there is only a little text. I just watched the video, but cutting and pasting the http didn't work. Jason3777 (talk) 01:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Pulitzer Center Blog

No problem. The total lack of NPOV sources is precisely why I nommed for AfD. I'm actually rather surprised that not a single convincing argument has been made for keeping the article...it is all claims of Fox's freedom of speech suppression and similar nonsense. Oi. FOX Censorship

edit

I applaud your attempts to find a NPOV source, but you aren't going to be able to find one. Fox didn't censor that girl, but they bowed to the realities of scheduled commercials. This is an attempt to turn something commonplace into something sinister for political reasons. Frankly, the whole thing pisses me off, as I'm now in a position where I must defend Fox News, my most hated of cable news channels. AniMate 00:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're a braver man than I. I'd never tell anyone I know that I was defending Fox. :) AniMate 00:59, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's the right call. If they can find a link from Fox, it can of course be added, but the youtube link was a violation of Fox New's copyright. AniMate 03:18, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
You won't be taking the flak alone, since I posted my thoughts and rationale behind the video removal on the article's talk page. In for a penny... AniMate 03:24, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jason3777! Why are you using the talk page of Disinformation_campaign_during_the_2008_South_Ossetian_war to ask questions about problems with your computer? Are you implying that you suspect there to be a connection between your computer's problems and that page? I think I dare to assure you that there is no such connection. However, if you really have good reason to belive that a Wikipeida page could cause problems like yours, you should immediatly alert Wikipedia systems administrators. I think you are experiencing correlation and not causation. I think you should undo your computer problem comment on Disinformation_campaign... --gnirre (talk) 05:39, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do not believe that a Wikipedia page caused the virus. But I do believe that someone placed it on my system due to my editing of Russian-Georgian War articles. I have corrected the problem by doing a system restore to a previous date before I begin having this problem. It was a sophisticated attack which slowed my system down a hell of a lot. This was the first time I have ever experienced such a problem (i.e. a virus) and my computer experience goes back 25 years. So much for correlation and not causation due to the date of the system restore. As Wiki says, if you show your IP address instead of your User name, it could put you computer security at risk. And I have accidentally forgotten to login before making comments. Jason3777 (talk) 00:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

"August 17 Through September" - Paragraph I deleted was restored

edit

Hi, I'll try to find the video showed on Russian TV. I think the Fox News video itself it the source. Let's remove words "cut off" and "cut short" with something like "the anchor had to interrupt to go for a commertial break". I think that's what the anchor says himself in the video. So my main point is the video is the source. Source of what? This we can discuss. And I like merging with the NYT paragraph as long as the incident is mentioned first and then we can give NYT interpretation. Best! (Muromec (talk) 01:03, 4 September 2008 (UTC))Reply

Mark the Evangelist

Hi Jason,

Thanks for contacting me about the St. Mark article. I added a couple notes to the Talk page there. Basically I think the external links will cover the traditions mentioned, especially the book by Pope Shenouda III. Wesley (talk) 06:02, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Talk:Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria/Comments

edit

A tag has been placed on Talk:Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria/Comments, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Unnecessary subpage with the comment already made on the main Talk page.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Talk:Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria/Comments|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 09:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for coming back to me on this and for letting me know how you created the subpages. I had forgotten about the "leave comments here" part of process, which meant that my comments above weren't the most helpful. Sorry about that.
The intention of those comments pages is in relation to their rating. Rating refers to an article's status with the top being Featured Article. The comments are about what's needed to move an article from say C to B. Because the comments you had made were already on the main Talk pages they didn't need to be repeated on the subpages and as they were the only comments I listed them for deletion under the speedy criteria. Editing survey

edit

Hi. My name is Mike Lyons and I am a doctoral student at Indiana University in the United States. I am conducting research on the writing and editing of high traffic current events articles on Wikipedia. I have noticed in the talk page archives at 2008 South Ossetia war that you have contributed to the editing or maintenance of the article. I was hoping you would agree to fill out a brief survey about your experience. This study aims to help expand our thinking about collaborative knowledge production. Believe me I share your likely disdain for surveys but your participation would be immensely helpful in making the study a success. A link to the survey is included below. An explanation of my project is included with the survey.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
