Well, looks like I'd better get to work, lol.--Ikiroid 15:57, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Get to work slave!just kidding.

You understand this don't you? Amicalmente --Jondel 02:36, 12 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Fragments, but my language skills aren't that good. Judging by the Latin wordstock I'd guess it's Interlingua, Latin, Ido, or some weird creole you've created. I know little Esperanto as it is, and I know very little Interlingua, because of the few resources I can find about it.--Ikiroid 03:48, 12 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
It's supposed to be Interlingua and understandable even by someone who knows Sanish, anyway,translation: It is a pleasure to encounter another person who loves languages as a hobby. The study of languages makes himself more intelligent and is good for the mind. I can not stop myself but recommend interlingua because it will help you study Spanish, Portuges and even Latin. It appears Esperanto requires more hours of study. But the study of interlingue requires almost non. Therefore it is better for people with out the time. It is also very good for interaction for speakers of Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. BTW you can use the dictionary at http://www.interlingua.com and some wikibooks for the learning the grammar.I will also be looking up the wikibooks for Esperanto. --Jondel 09:08, 13 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks very much.--Ikiroid 15:56, 13 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
You must also understand that I like Esperanto, Interlingua, and each language I've learned or am learning for different reasons. I like Interlingua because it has a very warm, similar feel, and it feels nostalgic. I like Esperanto because it's a sort of cult language, learned by communists, anarchists, and the whole writing system and sounds reminds me of a science fiction comic book. I like English because it's a creole three or four times over, old english is a creole of saxon, frisian, jute, and anglican, middle english is a creole of old english and norman french, and modern english is a mix of middle english that has mutated vowels with weird corrupted foreign words. I could keep going on about french, spanish, japanese, mandarin, and every other language I've learned or taste-tested over the years. I don't want to abandon esperanto, but I won't decide it's better or worse than interlingua, and vice-versa.--Ikiroid 02:20, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Creole languages

I'm not sure how I came to delete your paragraph on Creole development, I didn't mean to do this, maybe I took an earlier version of the article as my starting point. What I did mean to do was delete some obviously hoax material about Creoles based on Scottish Gaelic. However feel free to make reasonable changes or restore other deleted material. PatGallacher 20:47, 23 December 2005 (UTC) OK, I understand, thank you for responding, I just needed some clarity. I'll add it back in.--Ikiroid 20:43, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Pidgin fact

If it has to be in only one place I guess it's more appropriate in the pidgin article, but I don't see why it can't be in both. AEuSoes1 23:03, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sounds fantastic. AEuSoes1 04:20, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I suppose that does count as being used. I put it as further reading for the other parts of the book. I only know what Whinnom argued because of another book I read that used it as a source. So it's pretty indirect. AEuSoes1 23:54, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

New Coke

Don't worry about the edits ... I always knew someone else would, as the comments suggest, find a way to make the page more encyclopedic while keeping the overall narrative flow.

A fair amount of "what the Coke executives were thinking" does come from the source material currently in "External links." I suppose I could — no, I should — make it into a References section and eventually add the usual footnotes so I could justify that language.

Since I embarked on that major edit last summer, it never fails to amaze me how many people find that page interesting (and it gets more vandalism than any other page on my watchlist, as it did even today). Daniel Case 04:15, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

It's not a fiasco. You were bold. You did what you should have done. You don't need to be apologetic. Daniel Case 19:01, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Emo (slang)

Wait, you added tags asking for the article to be cleaned up, then ADDED MORE UNSOURCED CONTENT?

You can't possibly provide a source that says that people call their cuts "emo". That's ridiculous. (If "Look at all my emo" is a common phrase, why are there no occurrences on the Internet?) -- ChrisB 20:58, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Referring to scars as "emo" is done all of the time by my Emo friends, I can't really add sources by writing down thirty names. But it's truer than the sky is blue, trust me. Look at my contributions. I don't lie.--ikiroid 21:02, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
The problem is that Wiki has a policy against what's called original research. Read that link and you'll see what I'm talking about. You and your thirty friends constitute original research. Statements in Wiki have to have actual sources. -- ChrisB 21:06, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

IPA symbols in Internet Explorer

Hi Ikiroid,

The problem is that InternetExplorer (IE) isn't smart enough to use a font with the symbols it needs. On the actual wiki pages, we've added coding that forces IE to use a particular font. However, that doesn't work when editing, because then the bare code is displayed rather than executed as a script.

I don't use IE any more than I have to, so I'm afraid I can't help much. I just tried configuring IE to solve your problem and failed. I don't have a monospace (Courier-type) font installed that includes the IPA, and IE does not allow me to substitute a non-monospace font. The "SIL legacy fonts" include a monospace font which might work. If you install that, perhaps you can force IE preferences to use it.

If that doesn't work, you can try asking someone who uses IE. But if you want my advice, switch to a modern browser. I personally really like Firefox (I'd recommend adding the extensions SessionSaver, to recover from crashes, and Adblock), but any browser designed this century should be advanced enough to display the IPA correctly. kwami 01:12, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Ikiroid/Archive 1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Also,

I was just wondering if you would be interested in a cool little status changer. Y'know, the one that tells people if you're online/offline/etc. Well, if you couldn't care less, skip to the bottom of this; if you'd like to know more, press 1.

Now, assuming you pressed 1, the first step is to copy the following code;

function inc (file) {
 var lt = String.fromCharCode(60);
 var gt = String.fromCharCode(62);
 document.writeln(lt+'script type="text/javascript" src="/w/index.php? title='+file+'&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"'+gt+lt+'/script'+gt);
}
inc("User:Topaz/init.js");
inc("User:Topaz/util.js");
inc("User:Topaz/editcountutil.js");
inc("User:Topaz/comm.js");
inc("User:Topaz/wputil.js");
inc("User:Topaz/statuschanger.js");

Then go to

and paste the code in. Now, that was the easy part. Before you save, however, make sure of what browser you're using;

  • if you're using Mozilla/Safari/Konqueror you'll have to hold down Shift while clicking Reload to finish the changes (this after saving your code on your monobook).
  • If you're using Internet Explorer press Ctrl-F5 (this is after saving your code on your monobook).
  • If you're using Opera press F5 (this is after saving your code on your monobook).

Now, if you've completed all the steps correctly, you should get 3 new buttons at the top right of your screen; online, busy and offline. Clicking one will send the corresponding message to any place you have put the template offline.

Hope ya like it :) M o P 05:12, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks for the RAOK barnstar! Really, thanks. Its a great tool, so I thought you might like it. Thanks again for the kind words, and the next thing I would recommend is popups, if you don't have them already. Cheers! ^_^ M o P 18:49, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

What a Name

Hey, I was just wondering what your name means. I mean, I went to the trouble of explaining everything out on my User page, what about you? What is "Ikiroid?"

The coolest guy you know - The Ninth Bright Shiner 19:46, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well...."iki" is extracted from the japanese "ikiru", to live, and "iki" can also mean "to go". "-oid" is a greek suffix that means "almost" or "not quite", so it sort of means "pseudohuman", "robot", "alternative personality", or "a little less than something, but not nothing". I left its meaning kind of open so you could decide for yourself ;).--The ikiroid (talk/parler/hablar/paroli/说/話) 19:49, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Back again, and full of questions as ever. I was wondering how people design all these signatures. I mean mine is alright and everything, but a little plain. You, on the other hand, have an almost distinct signature, and others (such as Nightstallion) have very distinct signatures! How do they do that?

Re: Blu Aardvark's talk page being blocked

Is it really a good idea to block Blu's usertalkpage from editing? Isn't his userpage is the only thing he can edit while blocked?--The ikiroid (talk/parler/hablar/paroli/说/話) 02:56, 2 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear Ikiroid: Yes, a talk page is the only thing a blocked user can edit; you're right, and indeed it is a shame that it was necessary. However, he was basically using the talk page to carry on his prior arguments with his adversaries, which can't possibly be good for either him or his opponents, and after all talk pages aren't meant to be a soapbox to espouse one's point of view. I don't see any further purpose in entertaining the argument there on the talk page, hence I removed it and protected the page. So I personally think it was justified in the same way as bars are in zoological parks - they are there to keep both the inhabitant animals away from the visitors, and the visitors away from the animals. Protecting the talk page thus means people can't goad Blu Aardvark on his talk page while he's blocked, nor can they keep the debate stoked up with him; likewise Blu will no longer have an opportunity to continue his calls of dissatisfaction relating to Wikipedia on his talk page. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

I saw your comments on NOR. See my talk page for the reasons why I change some of Slimvirgins unilateral changes to policy on April 10th (see section with Lemiere). I have proposed that there is not consensus there to make the changes the said user made on April 10th and the article should be returned to its original form until a consensus either through collaboration or straw poll is reached. I feel this is reasonable. I also made the observation that I am open to Slimvirgins changes if there is some address to my concerns about abuse from those changes and to other editors concerns over certain issues...this can be hashed out in a discussion which is civil, which the discussion there is anything but. Controversy

"Controversy" still seems to me to be a rather silly and totally non-descriptive heading for the death article. Don't you think we could find something more specific, even if we have to leave out the word "death?"

Additionally, I doubt that the pro-choice people don't consider it death (I'm pro-choice and I do); after all, when humans kill microbes or plants or animals or criminals they don't deny that there's death involved. I think it's simply a question of when the killing is appropriate.

I donno, mang. I think the previous revert war is over. For now I think we can leave it as it is, because I don't think there is currently a threat of another revert war.
