I think you were looking for {{PD-Bangladesh}}, which already exists. There is a link to a short article about BD copyright law of 2000, which is somewhat similar to Indian laws, i.e. photos are in PD after 60 years; govt photos are copyrighted, etc.

Your edits to Newkirk and PETA

edit

Please bear in mind that all edits must conform to BLP, V, NOR, and NPOV. Your edits violated almost all of them. The Newkirk edits violated BLP, as did your edit summary; the PETA edits used terrible sources, and you can't write that a group has "advance knowledge of terrorist acts." Please review the content policies. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 15:27, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your edits to Ingrid Newkirk violate WP:BLP. If you continue to add the same material without explaining the context, you may be reported. Please note that BLP violations are blockable offenses. SlimVirgin (talk) 06:06, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Idleguy, I'm sorry, but this kind of writing is unacceptable: "Critics of PETA point to this statement, that the organization, like its leader, has double standards in advocating others to refrain from killing animals while have indulged in killing of animals instead of finding a home for it." You can't just leave it there, or keep reverting when others remove it. There are similar problems with your other edits. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:06, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what you mean about double standards. I'm talking about the English. This is the English Wikipedia, and the writing has to be of a minimum standard; if you want to quote from good sources, do so, but don't put words in their mouths, and then revert when people tell you the writing is unacceptable. As for POV pushing, you're the only one I can see who doing that by, for example, deliberately leaving out the context of Newkirk's statement about killing animals in the pound. The context casts a completely different light on it. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:25, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your note

edit

Idleguy, before you jump to any conclusions, try to read my edit summaries. I did read your edits and it's very possible that many could be acceptable, if properly presented. The issue is that you must present your information and sources while following WP rules, e.g. WP:V, WP:RS, WP:NPOV, etc. As I suggested in the Talk page, try to create a change set that relies only on acceptable sources; CCF/AnimalScam are not. We may tweak the language if it's not NPOV enough, but proper sources would not be rejected. So please give it a shot, do it the right way, and see what happens. Thanks, Crum375 19:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since you are the one adding to or modifying the article, you should try to create a changeset that relies strictly on acceptable sources. Yes, in theory it's possible for others to modify your edits for you, but it would be much more efficient for you to do it and then for others to just do the final tweaking if needed. Crum375 19:56, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
If the records CCF cites are publicly available, then those would be admissible in principle, but they cannot be cited via CCF. So all you need to do is find the same records via another, admissible, site, or from the originator of the records. Crum375 20:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use

edit

For someone supposedly keen on ensuring the image policies are adhered to, you should know that you can't claim fair use of an image (the sniper) recently taken specially for The New York Times, because it is still worth money; and I don't think you can claim fair use for the CNN/PETA shot unless you use it in the CNN article. Thanks for uploading Image:Gnat stamp.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

License tagging for Image:Karachi04.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Karachi04.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

RIAF Vs IAF

edit

I just reverted the edits made to the Indian air force page. it is a common mistake to assume the IAF was established as the RIAF in 1932. It was set up just as the IAF. It did not get the "Royal" prefix till 1945, so refering to it as RIAF in 1932 is inaccurate. The IAF was RIAF only for the years 1945-1950 jaiiaf 18:20, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Siachen errors

edit
Idleguy, thanks for pointing out that you respect my role as a professional geographer. Unfortunately, your incorrect Siachen edits continue the pattern apparent from above that, at the very least, you are sometimes hurried or careless in your fact checking with some of your edits. Forgive me for "piling on", but you are simply wrong about your Siachen Glacier length....it is 70, not 80 km long, as you are regarding your positions claiming (falsely) Pakistani control over some of the Siachen Glacier and over Gyong La.
Most odd was your reverting to your incorrect facts while:
1) in the case of length, not even noticing the conflicting footnote which you left untouched where I explained the methodology of measuring glacier lengths including 70, not 80km, for Siachen, using:
a. modern satellite imagery such as Google Earth, b. good Russian AND good Swiss maps, and c. a modicum of geographic expertise. I can assure you, having just returned from the Karakoram with GPS and maps in hand and having walked the 2nd longest glacier a bit west of Siachen from end to end, that wild, unsubstantiated, Internet guesses at glacier length for that region are invariably not even close to accurate. I invite you to try this methodology rather than just reverting to a figure that you found on some internet site.
2) in the case of claiming incorrectly that Pakistan controls Gyong La, your idea of contributing to accurate information on this key pass is to delete my entire reference (coordinates, etc.) on its location (taken from any good map of the area including those cited above.) I'm sorry, but deleting someone else's relevant information to disguise your incorrect facts is not going to win you friends in editing Wikipedia entries.
I have corrected these three errors (first paragraph above) again, and I would hope that you continue your obviously helpful edits in many entries and varied topics. But for geographic facts and figures such as these, I am sorry that you may not have the resources that we have in our offices where we follow geographic aspects of locations like the Siachen-Saltoro region very closely and have to "get it right." Thanks in advance for respecting that expertise.
Finally, I have seen some of the dated and/or inaccurate Internet claims that Pakistan controls Gyong La or that the Siachen Glacier (which from longest and uppermost "tributary" to snout is within a few hundred meters of 70 km) is somehow 8 or 10 km longer! So I understand how you may have felt obliged to copy and paste these into the Siachen article, but next time I encourage you to first do some measurements from available sources.
By the way, all of the Internet sources are not wrong. The map at http://im.rediff.com/news/2005/may/26siachen.gif explains that India has, for some time now, controlled the Saltoro watershed ridge crest which includes all three main passes.....It controls everything east of and a bit west of the line shown on that map, leaving all of Siachen Glacier and Gyong La in its control.
And at http://svaradarajan.blogspot.com/2005/06/siachen-solutions-for-taking.html , note the passage: "The purpose of authentication is to ensure that after a withdrawal has been effected, Pakistan will not move back to its old positions or up Gyong La, Bilafond La and Sia La — the three passes along the Saltoro range — to positions currently held by India."
Thanks. --Dlinth (talk) 12:33, 02 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Barren Island.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. There were two consensuses, including that it could be added to the seperate see also section without crowding the relevant section. To get over that, you deleted the whole see also section. I think you are not trying to meet me halfway here, and moreover assuming ownership over the article. I really can't understand what your objection is. It is a biographical stub, and could be expanded by link from this very relevant page. You are claiming it is insignificant, I am claiming it is interesting trivia and a notable stub that has the chance to improve. Me having created the article doesn't have anything to do with it. Unspecified source for Image:Army buffalo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Army buffalo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:32, 27 January 2007 (UTC). "which was know as "Badmash" by Pakistani pilots due to it's threat to invading Indian who were unable to match up to it's thunder" this was Not meant to state that air superiority was reached. it only meant that INDIAN pilots were fearful of this aircraft due to it's speed. This a open fact ask any pilot or person of the time working with PAF or IAF about this.So how this statement was changing fact it did not at all talked of air superiority.User talk:Yousaf465

I didn't added that "Many of the independent sources, even one of the India military chiefs at that time admitted the total air superiority achieved by the Pakistani air force with in 3 days of the war." line.By invading i meant that this particualr war machine was mostly used over Pakistani airspace so indian were in invading position.

Even your assumption that it was Pakistan which statred the war then your are denying three major pre war events I don't know if Indian mention those events or not but it was India's plan to move into desert.User talk:Yousaf465

The events i was talking about were India's "Unprovoked agression, pure and simple" on Rann of Kutch border. This samll army was ejected from this area.In aftermath of this event Indria Ghandi, announced: "India will respond at a time and place of her own choosing".The next response was In july 1965 in Northern areas along the 1948 cease-fire line where Indians conducted a surprise "surgical operation".The Pakistan responed in haste with Infiltraion of commandos this was only done to divert the Indians from Chamb area although operation Gibra;ltor failed but diversion was succesful and Pakistan second operation area was a relative success. And Indria Ghandhi's place choosen was Lahore and time was early hours of 6 September 1965.It was at 1000 hours on 6th Sept. 1965 that war was declared by Ayub Khan:"this is war".So pl let know the problem with this all.User talk:Yousaf465

It was just her saying so which seems to give this impression. If India has not run into Runn of Kutch had not reveneged it then there couldn't have been any such war!.So who was wrong this way.User talk:Yousaf465

Thanks for uploading Image:Buster-douglas.jpeg.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mosmof 06:02, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Sugar-ray-leonard.jpeg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Sugar-ray-leonard.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Angr 07:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello Idleguy Quick question about your image which states in the info that these are Muslim soldiers. The dress suggests Sikh to me, and as near as I can make out, the legend on the original pic says "Hindustani Musilmans", though the resolution isn't clear enough to make out for sure. So my question is, are they definitely Muslim (as you say), are they Hindu (as the Hindustani part of the caption says), or are they Sikh? I was just wondering as a result of the discussion and changes going on in the article on the Second Battle of Ypres. You can contact me on my talk page, if you prefer. One of the link provided by you (Idleguy)is http://www.kashmirsentinel.com/apr1999/3.9.html If you read the passage, you would come to know that Pakistan raised an elite Special Service Group (SSG) commandos in 1987, now it is upto you to decide who is trying to mislead others. If SSG was raised in 1987, then how could it have taken part in the 1965 & 1971 Wars. This means the whole article has been written by some Anti-Pakistan writer. Moreover, it says that Gen Musharraf was leading the attack, I have close contacts in SSG, and I can assure you that he never served in SSG either as Battalion Commander or a Brigade Commander or a Division Commander. He was in SSG only till he was a major and has never been posted to SSG again.

Fair use rationale for Image:EasyWrite.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:EasyWrite.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Unspecified source for Image:EasyWrite.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:EasyWrite.jpg.

If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC). Fa status of Kargil conflict

edit

As there are still serious issues with article. It's doesn't seems to be a Fa article for the WP Paksiatn as it only meets the folling criteria:

"Has several of the elements described in "start", usually a majority of the material needed for a completed article. Nonetheless, it has significant gaps or missing elements or references, needs substantial editing for English language usage and/or clarity, balance of content, or contains other policy problems such as copyright, Neutral Point Of View (NPOV) or No Original Research (NOR). With NPOV a well written B-class may correspond to the "Wikipedia 0.5" or "usable" standard. Articles that are close to GA status but don't meet the Good article criteria should be B- or Start-class articles."

Until those issues are not solved the article status can't be raised on Wp Pakistan even if it qualifies for the Fa by the Wp India. Thanks. User talk:Yousaf465

The issues are being mentioned periodically not by a single editors. So there are some serious issues which need to be resolved before it's status is upgraded. So resolve the issues before reverting the satus.Thanks.User talk:Yousaf465

The Herald does not count as a legitimate source

edit

Hello, I see that you keep adding "The Herald" source back. But the source is unverfiable. I have said this to you many times, and I can understand since English is not your mother tounge. But unverfifable means that the source cant be proven whether its actually legitimate or not. The herald source simply implies that "The Herald said .....", without providing any links or any source locations. This DOES NOT count as a legitimate source. For example I can add to some random article, "The herald said pigs fly now", without adding a legetimate source/link, would anyone believe this? Offcourse not. So, if you want to use "The herald source", Please providie a verifiable link, where the validity of the source can be proven. Thanks --Cranberryjuice10 19:21, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

B12/Veganism

edit

Hi. Hey, my problem with including the info about B12 where you did is that it isn't a precaution about veganism but a warning about B12 supplements, so it should be on the B12 page if there is one. Large amounts of iodine are poisonous. A lot of info has been coming out about vitamin D that could be included here, but like the B12 info you posted, it is interesting but not relevent to veganism, per se. I think the specific risk of veganism is a shortage of B12 - not the danger of cancer for getting too much - which vegans might do but which is more related to vitamins than it is to veganism. Make sense? - Bob98133 12:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

1965 images

edit

Hello,

You removed my images from the article by claiming that the images should not be allowed to stay on Wikipedia. If you have a problem with them, you are welcome to nominate them for deletion. Until such time that they are deemed to not fall under fair use however, you are not justified in removing them. Only reason I think you did this is out of a desire to prevent pictures depicting Pakistani victories. In the other Indo-Pak war articles, there are plenty of pictures from the Indian side, and I kept the Indian pictures on the 1965 article as well (except the bridge picture, which is really quite useless).

So you are requested to bring the pictures to the attention of the proper persons if you wish to have them removed, but in the spirit of fairness, I ask you to please refrain from removing them yourself unless they are dleted.

Thank you. Zaindy87 03:06, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Like I said, if you have a problem with the pictures, have them nominated for deletetion. Don't act like a hotshot admin. I see you've already been warned by an admin for repeatedly vandalising the SSG page. Don't turn this into a revert war.Zaindy87 03:24, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
And by "Pakistani victories", I meant individual battle victories, not victory in the war as a whole. I think it has been quite clearly established that the war was indeed a stalemateZaindy87 03:26, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Operation Gibraltar Good Article review

edit

Hello Idleguy. Thanks for your quick response to my GA review of the above article. I'm actually a newbie GA reviewer, and under new proposals on GAC Talk to improve the quality and consistency of GA reviews I have asked an experienced reviewer to quality-check my review. I'm waiting for him to get back to me at the moment (unfortunately he has been taken ill). Your recent changes have definitely improved the article though. I still think it would benefit from a minor copyedit - whilst your English is excellent, some of the prose and grammar could be further improved. If it's ok, I don't mind doing this myself - as long as that doesn't invalidate my status as reviewer in this case (I'm checking this one at the moment). Regards EyeSereneTALK 13:51, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback - you are quite correct, I've been informed that a GA reviewer can make minor copyedits etc on the article they are reviewing. I'll make any necessary edits this weekend when I've got more time, and should hopefully be able to pass the article then (as per above, another GA reviewer has looked it over as well, and they had a couple of suggestions too). Regards EyeSereneTALK 12:59, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, I've been through the article again and made a few prose edits, and also changed all the web cites using the recommended template. One thing the second reviewer did recommend that I wasn't sure how to do, was to move the table (with the names/operation areas of the infiltration forces) over from the centre of the article to the side, preferrably with wrap-around text - currently it breaks up the flow of the text. I'll leave this one to you ;) Once this is done, let me know and I'll be happy to pass the article. Cheers EyeSereneTALK 10:39, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
No probs - I don't see it as a major problem anyway, and in itself not an obstacle to a pass. Thought of a way to do it - I've added an infobox tag to the front of the table which seems to have helped (check the code; it only needed a tiny change) EyeSereneTALK 17:54, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Amul63.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Amul63.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 10:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Idleguy. Referring to your insistance on keeping Op Gibraltar, pls note that WP:PAK is a project page and not a list of important events. If you expect collaboration on the article, use relevant section or project's Talk page. Tagging a GA and adding to the project's achievement is not good practice. Thanks for reverting your edit and respecting the integrity of the project, otherwise we may end up with lists of FAs and GAs, which is not the real purpose of a project page. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Kanhoji.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG 16:54, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image is not wrongly tagged

edit

How is the image of the 1971 war I uploaded "wrongly tagged" and "misleading" ? It is an image from the war, and I acquired permission to use it via Wikipedia's recommended method. I emailed the copyright holder, and he granted me permission to use it under the GFDL lisence. I have forwarded that email to Wikimedia commons as is required. If you still doubt my word, you may email the copyright holder, Mr. Usman Shabbir and ask him yourself.

His email is listed on the bottom right corner of this page: http://www.pakdef.info/

You may verify the validity of the image at the link provided in the image summary.

Please don't remove the image from articles just because you don't like it. Zaindy87 08:35, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

The question is, does Pakdef.info itself own copyright to the image? I hardly think so. The image seems to be taken by army photographers, and so Pakdef.info is in no position to grant or delegate copyright to any images it displays on its site. --Ragib 08:39, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Mr. Shabbir was a part of the Army unit which is seen in this picture. He took the photograph, therefore he owns the copyright. He is a contributor to the PakDef.info site, and he has allowed it to host the picture just like he has now allowed me to upload it to Wikimedia under the GFDL. For help you seem to be the right person to turn to

edit

I have been checking out your contributions to the articles on South Asian wars, and what I found made me very confidant that I have found the right person to ask for help. Please, take another look at the Bangladesh Liberation War article. I see that it copies a lot of stuff from Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, spread over two sections, and 1971 Bangladesh atrocities, which looks like a better place to accommodate much of the information provided in the Liberation War article. I sincerely believe that reducing redundancy between articles and evolving articles to sharper and neater shape is a much desirable goal. I have laid my hands on books and documents that enables to provide more information on the war itself, from a Bangladeshi perspective (though the books necessarily aren't of Bangladeshi origin). Looking forward to some advise and, if possible, a hand lent to the article. Please, respond to my talk page. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Can you suggest any other editor who may take an interest in the article and/or have an experience with military history? An extra pair of hand never hurt anyone. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Atlantique Incident GA Sweeps Review on Hold

edit

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Conflicts, battles and military exercises" articles. I believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed. I have made minor corrections and have added two citation needed tags for two statements within the article. Please add sources for those within seven days and the article will maintain its GA status. If progress is being made and issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted. If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAC. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page. Operation Gibraltar GAN sweeps: On Hold

edit

Members of the GA WikiProject have been holding sweeps to determine if all current GAs meet the requirements of the GA criteria. I have been reviewing all of the "Conflicts, battles and military exercises" articles, and after looking over Operation Gibraltar, there are several things that need to be addressed for the article to remain a GA. I have left you this message since you are a significant contributer to the article. You can see the review on the talk page of the article. The issues should be quick to fix and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days until they are addressed. If they are not addressed in this time, then the article may lose its GA status. The article can be renominated at WP:GAN again later once the issues are addressed and the criteria is met. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 00:58, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:InstrumentOfSurrender.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If you see a removal of such content, and you disagree with the removal, do not edit-war to restore the information. Instead, participate in the discussion on the talk page.

I don't agree that consensus was reached on this issue before. Few people have raised concerns and you simply told them it is sourced. Whereas it clearly violates WP:UNDUE. WP:LIVING and Wikipedia:Avoiding harm specifies multiple conditions for adding sourced contents. Content you wish to add does not meet those requirements. If we cannot reach consensus then we can go for Third opinion to evaluate whether it satisfies WP:UNDUE and whether wordings satisfies WP:SYN.--Indianstar 08:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kargil War - Neutrality issue NOT addressed

edit

User:Idleguy - DO NOT Remove tag on this article without addressing the POV issue. I have clearly raised an issue which appears to be quite obvious throughout the article - the Picture referenece was "an example" of the outstanding problem.

DO NOT force what you think should happen upon the enitre reader base. You are by no means the benchmark commentator who's opinion or efforts should be the only one credited - nor should you express your furstration towards the rest of readers.

You are attempting to do the one thing that should be avoiding while editing on thsi encyclopedic site - START AN EDIT WAR based on India-Pakistan national pride. PLEASE CALM YOUR TONE and try to address the issue for what it is.

I will report you as a vandal to appropriate admin group(s) if you try to stir up racial/nationalist tension by isolating specific issues to taunt "the other side" - i.e. - Pakistani Editors. YOU MUST BE NEUTRAL WHILST WRITING ABOU|T HISTORIC EVENTS ON AN ENCYCLOPEDIC SITE - THIS IS NOT A WAR MAGAZINE!

Once again - the issue appears to be the tone of the article gives out the impression of a one-sided argument. AN EXPERT REVIEW SHOULD BE CONDUCTED TO VERIFY THE NEUTRALITY OF THE ARTICLE.

Replaceable fair use Image:Fightality.gif

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Fightality.gif. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. It might be hard to find a free image for this war but certainly magazine covers are not the best way to go. They should only ever be used for articles which are about the magazine, or the particular issue of the magazine, and not to illustrate the topic that happened to be featured on the magazine cover. Image source problem with Image:USMarineskier.jpg

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:USMarineskier.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:07, 21 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 17:07, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lahore_1895.jpg}

edit

While your contributions to Wikipedia are great, I don't think it is appropriate to take images from other websites like the one above and others from Harappa.com and put them in the public domain without asking the owner. Each of these images has a copyright on the bottom of the page. To argue that they are more than 50 years old is not relevant; the scans made of these images are contemporary and not more than 50 years old and not in the public domain. You need the original, or an older than 50 year version to make a copy you can put in the public domain. Certainly it is only appropriate to ask permission from the site owner before doing this. Kargil War

edit

I tried finding the relevant discussion to the use of "War" but could not find it in the talkpage, neither could I find the source/person you state. Could you please link me to them. I also have read the note to the use of the term "War", and in my view it sounds as if the article was named "Kargil War" because the Indian government choose to do so. Furthermore, this seems as if its the pride of the victor. India won the conflict and decided it name it a "war" to show pride, for the lack of a better term. --→ Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 02:31, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

This link is Indian I think [9] This is one of the famous Indian paper | Musharraf targets India for unrest in Balochistan

These two are Pakistani sources | Musharraf hints India for trouble in Balochistan The nation again | Musharraf targets India for Balochistan unrest

I even had a story about Indian involvement with Tamil tigers in Dawn's International page but can't find it's online link. Moreover an interview of Bughti's grandson on aaj tv showed him wearing a bullet proof jacket from where it came from ?

Kargil War

edit

I just finished reading V.P. Malik's 2006 book on the war (Kargil, from surprise to victory). It puts a lot of the contemporary news reports that were used as references to the article into some question, in my judgement. Since you have been the principal author of this article, I thought it would be useful to discuss with you some of the potentially controversial changes before I started editing.

1. the period between 1971 and 1999 is probably better described as a period of contest for the LOC (e.g Siachen Glacier), periodic border skirmishes, and a proxy war waged by Pakistan support of mujahadin and Kashmiri separatists. It also should describe the Pakistan effort to get diplomatic support for international intervention in Indian occupied Kashmir (but not in Pakistan occupied Kashmir)

2. In hindsight, it looks like the infiltration was totally a Pakistan military effort, the infiltration of "militants" was an operational disinformation story. I think contemporary reports are useful to show the thinking at the time, but the article should focus more on the information that is now available.

3. I don't understand the current division of the war into three parts. I can understand the first section - the infiltration - but the next two sections seem more to be one contiuous operation of pushing the Pakistanis out of the heights back into the LOC. If I were to put any division in, it would probably be the initial period when the Indians were trying to understand the nature and magnitude of the infiltration before it mobilized the additional forces.

Let me know what you think. Vontrotta (talk) 09:37, 28 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:BritishIndianArmy.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BritishIndianArmy.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:48, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image permission problem with Image:Pakistan libya.jpg

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Pakistan libya.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. User:Yousaf465 02:58, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Negative calorie food

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Negative calorie food, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Article has been in this poorly sourced stubby state ever since creation in 2005. If reliable sources can't be found in the space of 4 years and umpteen editors, we should delete this.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Kargil Pinaka.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Kargil Pinaka.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —SpaceFlight89 10:39, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Anti Indian Pakistani

edit

I have been reading articles about Indo-Pak conflicts specially for past one year or so.For the past few days I have come across some biased anti-India Pakistanis(Hj108) on articles like PNS Ghazi. These biased Pakistanis are trying to edit this article without citing neutral sources which have already been discussed and edited other Pakistani editors in past and consensus has been reached. I tried to stop them but they in turn are bullying me and threatening to report me for vandalism. I am new to editing here and don't know much about wiki policies, reporting and editing so I ask you to help restore neutrality on this article. Please see into the matter.--UplinkAnsh (talk) 21:01, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:Bharatpore maharajah.jpg needs authorship information

edit
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Bharatpore maharajah.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Idleguy}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:39, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:09, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Operation crusader italian surrender.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Operation crusader italian surrender.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Orphaned non-free image File:Peta AIDS.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Peta AIDS.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 04:05, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Pakistan libya.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Pakistan libya.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [11], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. —TripWire talk 21:44, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Avgnat 4.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Avgnat 4.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 08:44, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Kashmir gibraltar.png

edit

The file File:Kashmir gibraltar.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
