WikiProject Texas tags
editIf I may inquire, why have you removed the WikiProject Texas tags from the various Aggie traditions articles? - Raetzsch 21:03, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- There has been little discussion on their project page in the last several months except for a few who are only requesting peer reviews. There seems to be no constructive cooperation by its members to improve a given article. The chance of several member of that project to decide cooperatively that they need to improve A&M articles is very unlikely. I see no point in cluttering the discussion page with a link that says A&M articles are part of the Texas Project when the Texas Project couldn’t care less. -- Hut101 02:43, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

- Hello Hut, thanks for your message. I definitely sypathize with your concern about potentially irrelevant templates clogging up the articles. I am just shocked that the Texas WikiProject has become so inactive. We used to be very active. It makes me sad and I guess I am unhappy with myself for letting this happen. I'm going to see what I can do to revive it. I know there are lots of Texans here on Wikipedia. Maybe we just like to go our own way vs. collaborating on a project. (Lone cowboys on the range perhaps?) In any case - I am definitely happy to help with Texas A&M articles. A collaboration around them would be great. What did you have in mind? Johntex\talk 06:12, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- Reveille and Bevo both sound like great ideas. I just googled "Reveille V" and got 480 Goodle hits and she is not really covered yet in the Reveille article. I'd love to get to the bottom of the Bevo name if it is possible. It may be impossible given that even UT sources disagree. I'm on board to work with you on either of them.
- I'd like to throw one more idea into the mix. UT's first mascot was not a steer, it was a dog named Pig. So, at some point before or after the other two - we could build the Pig article, literally from nothing, if you're interested. Johntex\talk 06:34, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

- Hello Hut - thanks for the reply. Sorry, I overlooked your post at first because several messages came in right after yours. I didn't look high enough up the page. That is some good stuff. I will look into all the links you sent. With respect to the Alcalde, they don't have ancient articles available on-line, as far as I can tell. I no longer live in Austin (poor me) but I could enlist one our other UT-WikProject members to try to delve into the Alcalde's records. One of our members even works for the alumni center. Don't worry about the Pig article. It was just an idea. There is no reason for you to force yourself to work on a topic that does not interest you. We have plenty of other good suggestions. I could be convinced to go with any of them. My suggestion would be to start with throwing our efforts into one of the mascots just because they seem like smaller bites to chew on vs taking on getting the two universities to FA status. We should be able to get one or both of the mascots to GA or even FA status because it should be reasonably possible to cover the topic comprehensively. With regards to Bevo, there is actually construction under-way on a Bevo museum as part of our stadium expansion. That will be a bonanza when it is finished. Johntex\talk 03:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- That all sounds great. It would be awesome to find the hide stored away there at A&M somewhere. Almost as good would be photo from the banquet showing what the hide said when they served up the beef. I'll talk to some people about the Alcalde search and I'll pass along what we find - same with anything we uncover about Reveille. Johntex\talk 04:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- FYI the whole Bevo thing boils down to this: A&M branded the castrated mascot with 13-0. A few years thereafter, the name Bevo stuck. While several people made proclamations regarding the name, it was not official until 1919ish. The origin of the name is unclear at best and has several possible sources. The fact that there are records of the 13-0 hide being given to A&M leads me to believe the most popular Aggie tale is fiction BQZip01 15:18, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Pictures
editThank you!
I have many photos from the 2006 Lone Star Shootout. I'm finally getting around to uploading a few. I think we should go through the A&M article and upload the best free photos to commons. You've got to love the Figtin' Texas Aggie Band. They are truly a unique tradition and something special for the whole state of Texas. I have lots more photos of the Aggie band.
Speaking of which, why don't they get a link from the main A&M page? I know a lot of material got split off into the "Traditions" article, but it seems to me that the school band needs to be mentioned on the main University page. Johntex\talk 05:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Howdy. Sorry, I've been on a hiatus (more or less) for awhile. I'm wondering - since you seem to be rather ambitious in regard to A&M-related changes - do you have any sort of plan for organizing people? Something along the lines of a WikiProject would be nice, I would think, since a decent number of Aggies seem to be roaming Wikipeida nowadays. At any rate, let me know what you have done to organize people, and I'll be happy to fall in line. -- EdisonLBM 04:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- The Wikiproject sounds like a great idea. I think more Aggies should commit to editing A&M-related articles though. About the Wikicommons, do I have to re-upload my images there? I am not familiar with it. I am going to take more pictures soon.
- I believe the ResearchValley.org is the official website. The agency's official name is "Research Valley Partnership." That website is also posted on the College Station Governmental Links page. By the way, what do you think of the 12th Man Statue picture I took? Do you think a picture of it in daylight would look better? I also took a picture of the Reveille cemetery. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blueag9 (talk • contribs) 06:57, 17 February 2007 (UTC).
- My bad, at first I was thinking maybe readers would get confused as to which campus the notable people received degrees from, but then it hit me that they all receive identical degrees. I put the sections back. --Blueag9\talk 08:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

BQZip01 Message
editI don't spend a lot of time each day, maybe about a half hour (except big edits, which I tinker with whenever I have spare time). Right now I am watching about 50 articles and just keeping them clean from vandalism and other #$&^. I'm in the military, but the job I'm currently assigned to only takes about 4 hours a day (my boss doesn't manage time/people well), so I ahve plenty of free time to work on things like this. Thank you and you're welcome
editHi Hut, thanks for your message. You are very welcome. I try to help out when I can. I understand that this user is trying to tidy things up, but I think they went a little overboard. I undid a few of their similar edits related to Cornell as well. This user seems to have done similar things to other universities and other topics in the past. According to his user page, he considers himself a "deletionist". He is apparently quite proud of a mass deletion he once accomplished regarding transmission towers.
One of the problems with Wikipedia is that we have conflicting rules. We have all these style guides and so on but then we have WP:Bold that can seem like a cover for someone to just do what they want to do. We have all these policies, but then we have WP:IAR. In a sense, he did things by the book in terms of marking things either Prod or AfD. Therefore, while I think his behavior was non-ideal, I can't really emphatically state it was against the rules.
I'll try to check in on him in a few days/weeks and see what he is up to. Johntex\talk 00:37, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

- Fish can get away with stuff when they outnumber upperclassmen 10, 15, or 20 to 1; there is strength in numbers. I think they were taking it easy on us after the rough week we had (rough times in the corps like the week before this, especially in the first few months, tend to see freshmen quit the following week). — BQZip01 — talk 15:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Image placement
editYou can change them back if you like. I just changed them to follow the article's alternating pattern of putting the images on the left and right. BlueAg09 (Talk) 23:24, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Campus page
editWhat do you say we go ahead and start the Campus of Texas A&M University article? I say we move the notable buildings section to that article, and leave the campus picture on the main article. On this new article we can have the freedom to expand a bit and maybe add more buildings. BlueAg09 (Talk) 23:33, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- I was thinking maybe we can follow the format on the Campus of Michigan State University article. Things to include could be history, transportation, and notable buildings. BlueAg09 (Talk) 23:41, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- There are good A&M books at Evans and Cushing that have some info about campus history. When I get the chance, I'll check them out sometime. BlueAg09 (Talk) 23:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:TexasAggie.jpg)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
