NO ONE NEEDS THAT MUCH INFO FOR CAST BIOS! ITS UNESSACARY, QUIT UNDOING RIGHTFUL CHANGES — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pfk102 (talk • contribs)
- Hello Pfk102. Ok, you *might* have a legitimate concern there, the cast bios are a bit detailed, especially when all the main characters already have pages. But, you're not going about it the right way. If you want to see that material removed, go to the talk page, Talk:Chicago P.D. (TV series), and click on "New Section" at the top. In that section, explain clearly why you think that content should be removed, and do it without writing in all caps. Simply removing the text over and over is not the way Wikipedia does things, and it could end up with you being blocked for edit warring. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:23, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Thats great, why don't you just leave as is then? they don't need detail, they r fine with my edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pfk102 (talk • contribs) 17:27, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Er, I wouldn't say fine, actually. Your version's bio of Officer Kim Burgess ends without a period, and your summary for Sergeant Henry "Hank" Voight ends with a sentence fragment. You should probably fix those things at least. And, although I'm not going to revert you again, someone else might. If someone else does, please take the discussion to the talk page instead of just undoing their edit. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:33, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Adoption School
Hey User:Howicus, me again sorry to bother you.
The Five Pillars i already covered in The Wikipedia Adventure, also, i see adoptees all the time with Userboxes saying for example: "This user has been adopted by (name). I tried to find one but i couldn't. Do you know where i could find one? Also, Thank you for adopting me! I Appreciate it. I appreciate any help you can provide for the questions provided, thanks.
Your friendly neighborhood navy freak,
--Luis Santos24 (talk) 22:48, 27 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
- Ah, I was thinking there'd probably be some overlap with TWA. Luis Santos24, the template you're thinking of is Template:User Adoptee. You're always welcome to ask me any questions you have here on my talk page, or one of the other help options on Wikipedia. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:19, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Userbox
Hey,User:Howicus, thanks for such a quick response!
I tried to do the userbox and put it on my page....but then it said I adopted YOU! XD are there any userboxes that say YOU adopted ME? lol I saw a userbox like it but i couldn't find the code for it when i clicked edit, do you have the code? Also, do i call you Howicus, or what? Another thing, do you respond to the Adoption School responses for the first task i had to do? because it confused me at first when it said in the area below, so i just clicked edit and tagged you in a response, hopefully that's how to do it haha.
Thanks!
--Luis Santos24 (talk) 23:43, 27 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
- That sounds like you put {{Adopter|Howicus}}. What you want is {{Adoptee|Howicus}}. Also, you did fill out the "Introduction" section correctly :). Howicus (Did I mess up?) 02:21, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Adoption School
Hey there Mister Myagi!
XD just kidding, i'm here to let you know i am finished with the Politeness questions User:Howicus, however, about the vandalism one, mostly by the time i get to vandalism, or most of the time possible vandalialsm, another editor has already gotten to it, so there is usually nothing i can do,so what now? :/
Your Jedi Youngling, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 10:35, 28 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
- Heh, I should watch that movie sometime. I've graded the interaction section. As for the vandalism section, is vandal-fighting something you want to do on Wikipedia? If it isn't, then we can skip that section if you like. If it is, there are tools such as Twinkle that make reverting vandalism quicker and easier. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:51, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Hey User:Howicus,
Yes i actually would very much like to do vandal-fighting. Also,i already have installed twitch as of yesterday, but as i said earlier, by the time i get there, the job has already been done, and the damage reverted, so even though i have great interest, sometimes it feels pointless due to the gift and curse of Wikipedia's fast-acting counter-vandalism team. Also, besides the one with jaden smith it's a pretty good movie, i reccomend it.
Thanks, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 20:02, 28 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
- Hm, well, I look for vandalism by refreshing a recent changes page. When I see one that looks suspicious, I click on the "diff" link, check the edit, and, if needed, revert from there. Most vandalism does get caught fairly quickly. I haven't used it myself, but apparently Huggle is a faster tool still. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:31, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Anti-Vandalism,familiarity with mentor,rollback rights,adoption school
Hey there User:Howicus,
I think it would be cool to download that, but i need rollback rights, which i don't have haha. Also, calling you by your username,in my personal opinion, is a little too formal,as an adoptee, and due to my learning habits, i learn alot better when i actually get to know my mentor, take for example, my IT Boss at my school, he's the main reason i began to pursue programming and computing, he's like a second dad to me. So is there any alternative name i can call you?(Not demanding anything, or asking for first name basis right off the bat,i don't wanna make you feel weird and intrude your privacy, however my username is my actual name) Or, i can just call you Howicus as your username states? Also, is now a good time to request rollback rights? And if not, when? I have a very short attention/focus span, so the traditional methods such as in the adoption school might not be the best learning path, TWA was easy for me because it had a walkthrough approach, hell i was done in less then 45 minutes! Don't get me wrong, you are surely a great and friendly mentor to me, and your teaching methods are quite sound nonetheless. However, i sometimes find it easier to do answers to questions with the presented scenarios in the interaction and the consensus segments. But it feels as if i'm brushing up on all the segments of the Wikipedia Adventure. Not that i want to quit adoption school, because i don't. I'm just......confused even though i'm educated on the subjects, like a confusion of knowledge, hell describing it is confusing within itself! haha. By now i forgot the point of what i'm typing, so imma just go now ha.
Your Confused Youngling,
--Luis Santos24 (talk) 23:14, 28 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
(P.S: I don't mean to complicate things for the adoption majigger, don't hesitate to chew me out if i'm being annoying. i'm from a military family, i can take it,don't worry)
- Oh right...sorry Luis Santos24, to be honest I forgot about the rollback requirement. I wouldn't ask for that right now, though. Looking at the request page, it seems like you'd need at *least* 200 article space edits, and a good amount of experience with reverting vandalism.
- TWA does overlap with the adoption school somewhat. But I feel it's still valuable, as TWA is a simulation of editing while the adoption school requires the "real thing".
- As for what you can call me...well, "Howicus" is the only name I've ever gone by on Wikipedia, so I'd like for you to call me Howicus. Not trying to seem impersonal or anything, that's just what I go by here (at least for now). Howicus (Did I mess up?) 03:18, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
Rollback rights
Alright, if not now, when should i ask? when i finish adoption school?
Your homie,(Your youngling) --Luis Santos24 (talk) 10:04, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hm, well, it's hard to say for sure. I would say wait until you think you really need it, when you have experience doing tasks that rollback would make easier. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 14:13, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Tagging of Christian Brøns
You tagged Christian Brøns as a speedy under A7. It seems to me that "The title track from the album was chosen as the Best Hit on Denmarks P3 radio station." is a claim of significance, so i have removed the tag. DES (talk) 01:49, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Jazz Tuba
Hi, please leave tuba on the Jazz page. You undid this previously and the page was worse because of it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesmhayes (talk • contribs) 06:01, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
This isn't really the sort of article that makes me proud of Wikipedia. However, it seems to have been attacked by sock or meatpuppets (hence why I've semi-protected it to keep the unsourced content down) and I fear if it goes to AfD, they'll take over that as well. So I thought I'd add a few sources and leave it be. I don't mind the article going to AfD but I've got a sinking feeling there will be drama, the article will be deleted, and created a few times (and deleted via G4) before being salted. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:59, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, I fully expect a puppet swarm (which sounds like something one might have in a nightmare), but it looks to me like just another meme that got written about for around a week, then died. So I took it to AfD anyway. We'll see how it turns out. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 16:03, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Adoption School progress update
Hey there Master User:Howicus,
I have completed the speedy deletion section, and a question for the section below it. Sorry i haven't been on for awhile, final exams at school haha.
Ya Homie, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 17:14, 3 June 2015 (UTC) :-)
- Hi Luis Santos24. Would you go back through that section, and say what, if any, specific speedy deletion criteria are met for each example article? You can use the letter/number abbreviations if you like, or write them out. Also, the answer you gave for the question you answered in the Proposed Deletion section was incorrect. Please read the proposed deletion policy and re-answer that question. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:49, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
VisualEditor News #3—2015
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has created new interfaces for the link and citation tools, as well as fixing many bugs and changing some elements of the design. Some of these bugs affected users of VisualEditor on mobile devices. Status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. The worklist for April through June is available in Phabricator.
A test of VisualEditor's effect on new editors at the English Wikipedia has just completed the first phase. During this test, half of newly registered editors had VisualEditor automatically enabled, and half did not. The main goal of the study is to learn which group was more likely to save an edit and to make productive, unreverted edits. Initial results will be posted at Meta later this month.
Recent improvements
Auto-fill features for citations are available at a few Wikipedias through the citoid service. Citoid takes a URL or DOI for a reliable source, and returns a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. If Citoid is enabled on your wiki, then the design of the citation workflow changed during May. All citations are now created inside a single tool. Inside that tool, choose the tab you want (⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-auto⧽, ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-manual⧽, or ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-reuse⧽). The cite button is now labeled with the word "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" rather than a book icon, and the autofill citation dialog now has a more meaningful label, "⧼Citoid-citeFromIDDialog-lookup-button⧽", for the submit button.
The link tool has been redesigned based on feedback from Wikipedia editors and user testing. It now has two separate sections: one for links to articles and one for external links. When you select a link, its pop-up context menu shows the name of the linked page, a thumbnail image from the linked page, Wikidata's description, and/or appropriate icons for disambiguation pages, redirect pages and empty pages. Search results have been reduced to the first five pages. Several bugs were fixed, including a dark highlight that appeared over the first match in the link inspector (T98085).
The special character inserter in VisualEditor now uses the same special character list as the wikitext editor. Admins at each wiki can also create a custom section for frequently used characters at the top of the list. Please read the instructions for customizing the list at mediawiki.org. Also, there is now a tooltip to describing each character in the special character inserter (T70425).
Several improvements have been made to templates. When you search for a template to insert, the list of results now contains descriptions of the templates. The parameter list inside the template dialog now remains open after inserting a parameter from the list, so that users don’t need to click on "⧼visualeditor-dialog-transclusion-add-param⧽" each time they want to add another parameter (T95696). The team added a new property for TemplateData, "Example", for template parameters. This optional, translatable property will show up when there is text describing how to use that parameter (T53049).
The design of the main toolbar and several other elements have changed slightly, to be consistent with the MediaWiki theme. In the Vector skin, individual items in the menu are separated visually by pale gray bars. Buttons and menus on the toolbar can now contain both an icon and a text label, rather than just one or the other. This new design feature is being used for the cite button on wikis where the Citoid service is enabled.
The team has released a long-desired improvement to the handling of non-existent images. If a non-existent image is linked in an article, then it is now visible in VisualEditor and can be selected, edited, replaced, or removed.

David McGoldrick
Howie sorry but this best way for me to contact you , my edit to page was not " disruptive " as it is matter of fact just look at ITV player — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michealrockafella (talk • contribs)
- Hi Michealrockafella. Wikipedia content needs to be based off of reliable, independent sources such as newspapers or magazines. I believe you that he was seen chewing gum. The question is, did sources like newspapers notice this too, and did they care enough to write about it? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:19, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
sorry for contacting this way but is TV footage not realiable — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michealrockafella (talk • contribs)
- Hi again Michealrockafella. First, please put your comments at the bottom of this page, here. Second, is it TV footage of McGoldrick chewing gum? Or footage of people talking about McGoldrick being caught chewing gum? If it's the first, then it's not enough to justify including that content. If it's the second, then it might be worth adding. Could you give me a link to the footage? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:27, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough I'll try to upload the footage next few days — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michealrockafella (talk • contribs)
Kris Jenner
Hi, Thank you for your response on the Kris Jenner entry. A biography of a person whether living or dead should be accuracy. Kris Jenner was married to Bruce Jenner. While any entry to Bruce Jenner in the future will be a redirect to Caitlyn Jenner, which is fine, but this is not the history. Kris Jenner was married to Bruce Jenner from 1991 till 2014. She was not married to Caitlyn Jenner. Caitlyn's identity was established in Vanity Fair article and via Twitter, June 1st. While Caitlyn's change is mentioned subsequently in the wiki entry and adequately, it is incorrect to include in the History or at the very least, superfluous. I am trying to provide an accurate history of Kris Jenner and her history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toga25 (talk • contribs) 18:49, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Toga25 One reason I reverted your edit is because when you removed the named Caitlyn, you also removed the only link to Jenner's page. Also, the issue of what name to use for Jenner in various articles is currently being discussed here. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 18:53, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi Howicus Thanks for responding so quickly. I disagree. There is already a link and mention of Caitlyn's Name in Kris Jenner's Sidebar: which links to Jenner's page : Bruce Jenner (now known as Caitlyn Jenner) (m. 1991–2015). There is also further mention of Caitlyn further in the article: In April 1991, one month after her divorce from Kardashian, Jenner married her second husband, former Olympian Bruce Jenner, who later renamed herself Caitlyn. This is an article about Kris Jenner and during her marriage, she was married to Bruce Jenner. It is established that Bruce Jenner later renames herself to Caitlyn in the sidebar and further on in the entry. During her marriage, Kris Jenner was married to Bruce Jenner, which is a small clarification but worth noting? Toga25 (talk) 20:37, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
- I see your reasoning, Toga25, and I think I agree with you. One more thing though, in the future please use Edit summaries to explain your edits. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 20:43, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
List of saints
Hi, I am a new editor. I was going through the list of saints when I realized the info on St. Olga (whom I am named after) is incorrect. As a starter, I tried to update the date of her canonization but it was rejected by you. I am not sure what I did wrong, but when I went back to check things out, I realized the link was to Olga the Grand Duchess of Russia and not St. Olga the first Russian saint who lived in the 10th century, whose grand son Vladimir converted the Russian people to Orthodoxy. This entry needs to be totally corrected / updated, as it is misleading. Let me know how I can help. GogolTwain — Preceding unsigned comment added by GogolTwain (talk • contribs) 22:59, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, I see what you were trying to do now, GogolTwain. I have added Olga of Kiev to the list with this edit, but as I don't know much about that topic, I invite you to check my entry and correct it. Note that I left Olga of Russia in the list, because apparently she is a saint too. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:46, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
The Storms
User:Highadventurer96 has readded the book "The Storms" to the Everest (2015 film) page, and I'm not sure if I should remove it. I did once, before you did, and we had an exchange on my talk page. You're a far, far more experienced editor than I, so I'd rather defer to you in this case - personally, I feel that the whole page needs a rewrite, and only books used directly as source material should stay, but Highadventure96 does make the point that the events at Base Camp will be covered in the film.
I'm also concerned that they seem to be a single-purpose account, and with a name like that (and an agenda of promoting a single book), I'm worried about COI. What do you think? NekoKatsun (talk) 00:06, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Well, "The Storms" is about the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, and so is the movie. But, "The Storms" is not directly relevant to the film, only indirectly because they cover the same events. So, it should not be mentioned on the film page. Also, yeah, this is most definitely a single-purpose account for promoting this book. I've reverted again and warned Highadventurer96. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 00:22, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Preference to the Storms
I was on Everest in 96 but I am neither the author of The Storms or do I have any connection. If you take the trouble to read it you will find it contains new information focussed on events within Rob Hall's expedition which is fundamental to an understanding of the film.
Other than Into Thin Air the other books quoted in the page have very little relevance to the film.
Grateful if you stop replacing the edit unless you know more than I do about events on Everestbin May 1996. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Highadventurer96 (talk • contribs) 08:50, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Howicus/NekoKatsun
Just seen the your discussion about "single purpose account".
Firstly yes I do have a particular interest in mountaineering, and I acknowledge that I do not spend time looking to edit content on other topics - but I will happily do so if I become aware of information which would be useful.
Secondly I am not promoting the book (other than my firm belief that it adds to the background knowledge of those who have an interest - I personally don't care whether The Storms is a successful book or not) but I am identifying to those interested in the film that The Storms (which I hope you have read which would at least make this a more relevant debate) provides sound background information.
In my humble opinion, together with Into Thin Air, it completes the story. It certainly describes what many of the characters in the film were doing at the time of the tragedy from a first hand perspective. Far more than any of the other books listed which don't cover events at Base Camp which is fundamental to the full understanding of the film.
Other than completely disagreeing with your view that I am promoting someone else's book - all I can say to this, is that I am not - I am simply attempting to support source material which gives a greater understanding of the subject of the film. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Highadventurer96 (talk • contribs) 09:27, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Highadventurer96, I see your argument for the book being relevant to the 1996 Mount Everest disaster article, as the book talks about the events of the disaster. But, the book is not *directly* relevant to the film. I don't think it merits inclusion in the film article merely because it covers the same events. Additionally, you need to provide a reliable, independent source to show that the book is significant enough to be included in the articles. A good source could be a newspaper review of the book, for example.
- Also, with regards to my calling you a single-purpose account, well, every edit you've made so far has been to add or re-add a mention of that book to an article. There are plenty of cases of new users who are actually here to promote a specific book. Sorry if I offended you by assuming that was your purpose too. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:35, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi Howicus
Thank you for your response.
I totally agree with your view that I am only concerned with this one debate - mountaineering is my field of expertise and I don't currently have a view about any other issues - does this somehow penalise contributions to Wikepedia?
I do think the full story of the background to the film is relevant (hence my stance on this topic) - I hope you will find the this old and relevant article in the Alpine Journal to be an appropriate reference to support my edit that Mike Trueman's factual background to the film is relevant - see 3rd to last paragraph.
I reiterate that I have no personal interest in "The Storms" - which is in any case a successful publication in the UK and doesn't need my help. I am however uncomfortable with the "policing" of my edit. It seems to be based on some self accreditation to legislate edits irrespective of how much you know about the subject in question.
Please do forgive me if I am wrong and you were on the mountain with me in 1996. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Highadventurer96 (talk • contribs) 18:02, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Daisy Beaumont
Hi,
Regarding your reporting of Daisy Beaumont as a non-notable actress:
I have submitted my initial argument on this page: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Daisy_Beaumont
Here it is again incase that is the wrong place to contribute to the discussion:
Hi Howicus (apologies if this is the wrong place to discuss this, if so, advise me and I will submit my argument elsewhere). Daisy Beaumont was a regular in the BAFTA winning (also twice BAFTA nominated) Star Stories, as well as in a regular in two series of the hit series 'You, Me & Them', screened regularly on UK Channel UK Gold. She is a regular face on British television, and many of her screen roles can be found at her IMDB page, here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0064584/. She also has extensive theatre credits, has performed at the National Theatre in London, several times in the West End, and was one of the original cast of the hit Boeing-Boeing (as is mentioned in the wikipedia article for the musical here: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Boeing-Boeing_(play).
Daisy Beaumont is most definitely a notable actress in the UK.
Sincere apologies if I'm using Wikipedia incorrectly in this discussion, I'm sure that I am, I have no experience using Wikipedia in this way. I merely edited Daisy's D.O.B on her request as it had been input incorrectly by someone else before.
Thanks,

You suggested for speedy deletion the page Daniel O'Keeffe (swimmer). I was trying to introduce a disambiguation page to distinguish between the various Daniel O'Keeffes and O'Keefes listed on Wikipedia. Ofloinn121 (talk) 20:26, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I understand what you were doing Ofloinn121, and I agree with you. You just went about it the wrong way. To move a page from one title to another you should follow the instructions at Help:Moving a page (which you might not be able to do if you're not autoconfirmed). Simply copy/pasting isn't the right way to do it as the page's history has to be preserved for attribution reasons. I tagged Daniel O'Keeffe (swimmer) for speedy deletion so that Daniel O'Keeffe can be properly moved there. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 20:41, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Smart move (pun) to overrule my perfectly legitimate CSD tag, but as an article without an author, who do you suppose is going to locate it and translate it? We deprecated he incubater some time ago. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:01, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Kudpung. I moved the page at the request of the page creator on IRC, who has filed a request for translation. Now, though, I see that method of translation is depreciated. OlEnglish and I are working with the article creator on IRC to figure out what to do. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 14:13, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- The instructions are at Wikipedia:Translation#Requesting a translation from a foreign language to English. However, as this is a a CSD-A2 case, the way to proceed is to do a very short stub in English and then add the template that suggests that the article can be expanded from its parent article on the other Wiki. Of course, there is no guarantee that someone would want to pick it up, but it would get some exposure where a Draft is doomed to the dungeon. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:22, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Co-op Pilot Results & Mentoring
Hey there! The Co-op has been on a hiatus for a bit, but we are planning on opening up shop again soon. When you're able, please read over and respond to this update on our talk page. We have favorable results from our final report regarding the pilot, and we are interested in seeing who is available to mentor when we reopen our space and begin to send out invites again. Looking to be adopted
Hello!
I'm looking to be adopted to help with my first article. It's been rejected 4 times, each for different reasons.
I live in WI and am the Executive Assistant for the company I am trying to get publishes.
Thank you, PattiMoly99 (talk) 14:04, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hello PattiMoly99. Unfortunately the next couple of weeks are going to be quite busy for me in real life, and I don't anticipate having a whole lot of time to spend on Wikipedia. I'd suggest contacting one of the other users listed at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:55, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

I dont see the Albanian version of greek cities on wikipedia so why should there be a greek version of Albanian cities here?? Thats just unnecessary and irrelevant! ÇobaniNgaEr (talk) 02:32, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi ÇobaniNgaEr My objection is not about the specific content being removed. The problem I have with your edits is that you are removing the pronunciation using misleading edit summaries such as "fixed typo". Howicus (Did I mess up?) 02:34, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry about that but I think it's inappropriate to add a second version of a city's name in a foreign language. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ÇobaniNgaEr (talk • contribs) 02:53, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey boss, long time no see
I'm back, since we last talked User:Howicus, i've become a novice editor, with over 571 edits, and i just made my 8th Article! I also did 50 Hours of volunteering aboard SS American Victory, so sorry i haven't been on much lately.

Hi! I am Blue Eyes Lady. I thank you to realise my mistake on the page Manoj Joshi (Actor). I'll never repeat the same. But I'd like to request you not to delete my construction. Blue Eyes Lady (talk) 05:23, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Blue Eyes Lady. I reverted your edit because all I saw was you removing the filmography without explaining why in the edit summary. Now, I see that you re-worked it as a table, and that's fine. Just please, in the future, use an Edit summary for your edits, especially if you're going to be doing something like removing a lot of content at once. Ribbon stacks and Barnstars
Hey User:Howicus,
How common is it to recieve a barnstar? and how do you stack ribbons? If you look on some ship articles such as USS Enterprise (CVN-65). you can notice a ribbon stack, i mean i only have 1 ribbon, my Level 2 Novice Editor Ribbon, but in the case that i get more, how would i stack them? i've tried looking for help articles. Thanks sir.
--Luis Santos24 (talk) 19:01, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi again Luis Santos24. I really don't know how common it is to get a barnstar, as all I know is how often I get one. Even that varies; I've gotten three in one month, and I've gone for months without any. Keep in mind that not getting barnstars doesn't make you any less of an editor, and getting them doesn't make you any more of one :).
- As for stacking the editor ribbons...you could use something like Template:Userboxtop, or else I think you can simply add a <br /> after each ribbon. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:21, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
Re: Ribbons and Barnstars
Hey Howicus, me again sorry to bother you.
Can you stack your incremental service awards? I am a Level 2 Novice Editor, so would i be able to stack my registered editor ribbons as well? I know stupid and probably unnecessary question, sorry. Thanks :D and please, feel free to call me Luis, i don't mind it
--Luis Santos24 (talk) 00:52, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, Luis :), as they are now, the service awards on your userpage look stacked to me. So...I think the answer is yes. To be totally honest userpage design is not my forte; the User page design center may be some help. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 01:09, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Copyright Violation Detection - EranBot Project
A new copy-paste detection bot is now in general use on English Wikipedia. Come check it out at the EranBot reporting page. This bot utilizes the Turnitin software (ithenticate), unlike User:CorenSearchBot that relies on a web search API from Yahoo. It checks individual edits rather than just new articles. Please take 15 seconds to visit the EranBot reporting page and check a few of the flagged concerns. Comments welcome regarding potential improvements. Thanks for helping catch this edit [1]. We are at Wikimania improving this tool, keep using and checking it out.--Lucas559 (talk) 16:32, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Newbie
Hello, thank you for providing more information. Hopefully in the future I can develop better research and establish a stronger more creditable page that you might be able to help me with. I still need to learn how to do the signatures. Not fluent in the website yet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesThompson78 (talk • contribs) 00:23, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi JamesThompson78! If you want to try to write the page again, I'd suggest using the article wizard to create a draft. Draft pages are much less vulnerable to deletion, so you have more time to work on the page and submit it for review. Also, to sign posts, type four tildes, ~~~~, which produces your signature. Note that you only sign posts on talk pages and other discussion pages. Hope this helps! Howicus (Did I mess up?) 00:39, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 29
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Vapotherm, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CDC. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

VisualEditor News #4—2015
Read this in another language • Local subscription list • Subscribe to the multilingual edition
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team have been working on mobile phone support. They have fixed many bugs and improved language support. They post weekly status reports on mediawiki.org. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving language support and functionality on mobile devices.
Wikimania
The team attended Wikimania 2015 in Mexico City. There they participated in the Hackathon and met with individuals and groups of users. They also made several presentations about VisualEditor and the future of editing.
Following Wikimania, we announced winners for the VisualEditor 2015 Translathon. Our thanks and congratulations to users Halan-tul, Renessaince, जनक राज भट्ट (Janak Bhatta), Vahe Gharakhanyan, Warrakkk, and Eduardogobi.
For interface messages (translated at translatewiki.net), we saw the initiative affecting 42 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 56.5% before the translathon, and 78.2% after (+21.7%). In particular, Sakha improved from 12.2% to 94.2%; Brazilian Portuguese went from 50.6% to 100%; Taraškievica went from 44.9% to 85.3%; Doteli went from 1.3% to 41.2%. Also, while 1.7% of the messages were outdated across all languages before the translathon, the percentage dropped to 0.8% afterwards (-0.9%).
For documentation messages (on mediawiki.org), we saw the initiative affecting 24 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 26.6% before translathon, and 46.9% after (+20.3%). There were particularly notable achievements for three languages. Armenian improved from 1% to 99%; Swedish, from 21% to 99%, and Brazilian Portuguese, from 34% to 83%. Outdated translations across all languages were reduced from 8.4% before translathon to 4.8% afterwards (-3.6%).
We published some graphs showing the effect of the event on the Translathon page. Thank you to the translators for participating and the translatewiki.net staff for facilitating this initiative.
Recent improvements
Auto-fill features for citations can be enabled on each Wikipedia. The tool uses the citoid service to convert a URL or DOI into a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. You can see an animated GIF of the quick, simple process at mediawiki.org. So far, about a dozen Wikipedias have enabled the auto-citation tool. To enable it for your wiki, follow the instructions at mediawiki.org.
Your wiki can customize the first section of the special character inserter in VisualEditor. Please follow the instructions at mediawiki.org to put the characters you want at the top.
In other changes, if you need to fill in a CAPTCHA and get it wrong, then you can click to get a new one to complete. VisualEditor can now display and edit Vega-based graphs. If you use the Monobook skin, VisualEditor's appearance is now more consistent with other software.
Future changes
The team will be changing the appearance of selected links inside VisualEditor. The purpose is to make it easy to see whether your cursor is inside or outside the link. When you select a link, the link label (the words shown on the page) will be enclosed in a faint box. If you place your cursor inside the box, then your changes to the link label will be part of the link. If you place your cursor outside the box, then it will not. This will make it easy to know when new characters will be added to the link and when they will not.
On the English Wikipedia, 10% of newly created accounts are now offered both the visual and the wikitext editors. A recent controlled trial showed no significant difference in survival or productivity for new users in the short term. New users with access to VisualEditor were very slightly less likely to produce results that needed reverting. You can learn more about this by watching a video of the July 2015 Wikimedia Research Showcase. The proportion of new accounts with access to both editing environments will be gradually increased over time. Eventually all new users have the choice between the two editing environments.
Let's work together
- Share your ideas and ask questions at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback.
- Can you read and type in Korean or Japanese? Language engineer David Chan needs people who know which tools people use to type in some languages. If you speak Japanese or Korean, you can help him test support for these languages. Please see the instructions at mw:VisualEditor/IME Testing#What to test if you can help.
- If your wiki would like VisualEditor enabled on another namespace, you can file a request in Phabricator. Please include a link to a community discussion about the requested change.
- Please file requests for language-appropriate "Bold" and "Italic" icons for the styling menu in Phabricator.
- The design research team wants to see how real editors work. Please sign up for their research program.
- The weekly task triage meetings continue to be open to volunteers, usually on Tuesdays at 12:00 (noon) PDT (19:00 UTC). Learn how to join the meetings and how to nominate bugs at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. You do not need to attend the meeting to nominate a bug for consideration as a Q1 blocker, though. Instead, go to Phabricator and "associate" the main VisualEditor project with the bug.
If you aren't reading this in your favorite language, then please help us with translations! Subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact Elitre directly, so that she can notify you when the next issue is ready. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 00:01, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
