Orphaned non-free image File:Cookie Thief Sesame Street 2.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Cookie Thief Sesame Street 2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Steel1943 (talk) 00:26, 3 October 2015 (UTC) Actually, it's used in my Cookie Thief draft Draft:The Cookie Thief. Hop on Bananas (talk) 00:27, 3 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

That is a draft, not an article. To meet fair use, the image has to specifically be on an active article. Steel1943 (talk) 01:51, 3 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

What's the problem with using fair use images in draft articles? From File:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg If you are writing a draft article that will have fair use images in it once it reaches the article space, you can simply add a colon to it. For example, changing   to Image:foo.jpg will prevent the image being removed. If the image does get deleted, I'll reupload it when the article is launched. (Speaking of which, the only sources I found were some news articles on Google News, which I might use. I tried Google Scholar and I thought I saw 2 results, but when I checked they were from 1985 and 1992. (They seemed to be both Sesame Street-related, but neither was about this special). Hop on Bananas (talk) 13:17, 3 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Fair use is for main space articles only, not drafts, sandboxes, user pages etc. (WP:RFUI Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 20:04, 3 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well, why can't FU images be used in drafts? Draft are basically pre-lauch articles (if there's an important difference, explain it). Hop on Bananas (talk) 03:11, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

To minimize the total number of times items of non-free content are included within the encyclopedia. Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 03:26, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well, drafts and their corresponding articles never coexist, so I think you're still not getting it. Hop on Bananas (talk) 03:29, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Actually; I'm citing the wrong policy. To To minimize legal exposure by limiting the amount of non-free content, I should say. But I don't have to argue about this. WP:NFCC#9 says: " Non-free content is allowed only in articles (not disambiguation pages), and only in article namespace, subject to exemptions." Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 03:33, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Why shouldn't drafts be exceptions? I've yet to receive a reason why. Hop on Bananas (talk) 03:37, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Those pages that are exempt are listed in Category:Wikipedia non-free content criteria exemptions." "To make a request for a page to be placed in this category, please post to a request to Wikipedia talk:Non-free content." For the record, these are all image deletion pages (and therefor not main space articles); the kind of exemptions that "specifically ... are used to manage questionable non-free content." Well, could someone explain why my sources are unacceptable? Hop on Bananas (talk) 22:36, 9 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

My sources are reliable, talk extensively about the subject, and are independent of it. Isn't there a policy that plot summaries don't need sources since their source is the movie or something? Hop on Bananas (talk) 20:05, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

GA nominee

edit

Hai, I have nominated the film article Loham for GA-status. Which is currently on "Hold on" time and there are some corrections to be done before it ends. Mainly copy editing for grammer and writting style. For making it a good article there are some suggestions referred in Talk:Loham. I invite you to make your contributions to it.--Charles Turing (talk) 08:47, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Original Research

edit

I have reverted two instances where you added the "Original Research" template. The template instructions state, "Note: This template should not be applied without explanation on the talk page, and should be removed if the original research is not readily apparent when no explanation is given." There is no way to tell from your edits what material you claim is original research. Tom (North Shoreman) (talk) 19:43, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Redirects and inappropriate content

edit

Please don't create redirects, such as Sgdhdundjdjndjfjfjfkrjrhheuwjwii. No redirects are allowed to point to user or draft space. This is considered vandalism. Also, don't create unneeded redirects, such as Wikipedia:NOR noticeboard. Nowhere is that template used and there are already redirects for it. Bgwhite (talk) 05:43, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adding templates to file page

edit

Hi Hop on Bananas, thank you for trying to help by adding templates to file information pages. However I've reverted your additions as the files you added them to are actually located on Wikimedia Commons so the information you are adding should have been added to the Commons page rather than the English Wikipedia page (and in some cases was there already). Wikipedia talk:Non-free content

edit

Hi Hop on Bananas. I just want to let you know that I moved two of your replies added to Wikipedia talk:Non-free content/Archive 64#Regarding the press image policy and did some other minor formatting fixing per WP:TPG#Fixing format errors to make the thread a bit easier to follow. I also linked to the non-free images you added using WP:COLON. Non-free images are only allowed to be used in the article namespace per WP:NFCC#9; Such images should be linked to, not displayed, when used on talk pages, etc. as part of any discussion. I did not change any of the content of your posts, just tweaked the formating per WP:TPG. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:02, 21 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

File:EDGE magazine (logo).svg

edit

Why are you adding {{watermark}} to this file? I can't find any watermark. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:55, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

It does have a trademark notice. While not watermarks per se, they do obstruct use of an image. Hop on Bananas (talk) 20:56, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

The trademark sign is a part of the logo. We do not add {{watermark}} when a logo contains a trademark sign for the same reason as we do not add {{watermark}} to paintings which were signed by the painter. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well, I suppose so. Note that I once saw a logo with this template for the same reason. By your logic, it should be removed (which I may do). Hop on Bananas (talk) 23:12, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Actually, a trademark notice is not part of the logo per se. It's basically a notice that this logo is trademarked. So it's basically equivalent to a copyright notice. For most logos, did the designer put in a a trademark notice as part of the logo design, before it was trademarked? If anyone ever did that, it would pretty much be the logo equivalent of a trompe l'oeil. In any case, do you think logos with trademark notices are preferrable/superior to ones without, or support adding them to logos that never had them?
