Hi, HistorianV, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question.

However, there is a small issue with your username. As it is not in Latin script, it may be illegible to most other contributors to the English Wikipedia. Although usernames like yours are not prohibited, Wikipedia's signature guideline and username policy encourage you, as a courtesy to other users, to alter your signature so that it also includes a transliteration of your username using Latin characters, so others can see it correctly.   Hello, I'm Yuthoob. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Gokula, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Yuthoob (talk) 13:00, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

This reference has already been used by someone on Jats wikipedia page. So, I believe it's pretty authentic as it's about a book which is authentic. HistorianV (talk) 13:10, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Which reference are you talking about? Where did you link the reference? Yuthoob (talk) 13:15, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or significantly change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did with this edit to Bharatpur district. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Materialscientist (talk) 13:27, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to D. K. Shivakumar. Thank you. TheWikiholic (talk) 18:04, 10 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Okay. I will try to give a proper title to the reference this time. HistorianV (talk) 05:01, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please stop. If you continue to move pages to bad titles contrary to naming conventions or consensus, as you did at Jat reservation agitation, you may be blocked from editing. Do not move pages unilaterally. It requires WP:CONSENSUS in the talk page via a page move RfC. Also maintain WP:COMMONNAME, for example, it is 'Jat' in English Wikipedia, not 'Jaat'. Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:43, 10 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Okay I got it. But I was moving it as per the difference in their meanings as those who did reservation agitation call them selves as JAAT only but not Jat/Jatt. As those people were residing in haryana and according to a authentic reference book of 1992. they should be termed as Jaat not Jat otherwise it will confuse people about two communities between Jaat and Jat/Jatt. As these communities have major difference between their livelihood and religion nowdays. HistorianV (talk) 05:00, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The difference is largely based on pronunciation, I'd rather say English transliteration of it. Compare it to Brahmin/Brahman/Baman/Bahun, Kshatriya/Khatri/Chhetri, Sethi/Chetty, etc. The etymology of the various iterations of these words and Jat/Jaat/Jatt are same. I'm aware that 'Jaat' is preferred by the Hindu ones living in Haryana/UP?Rajasthan while Jatt by the Punjabi ones. That being said, in Wikpedia we follow WP:COMMONNAME, a policy which uses the most common term as supported by reliable sources in English language. Note that both Jaat people and Jatt people are redirects / alternate spelling of the Jat, though those are not reflected in the article lead. You can however make a request at Talk:Jats to include them in the lead in boldface. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:02, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at List of Baniyas.
As it clearly states in every section of that list "Only add a person to this list if they already have their own article on the English Wikipedia" - Arjayay (talk) 17:12, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Okay I got it. But there are many people mentioned in other clans without wikipedia pages. So, I thought I can do that. HistorianV (talk) 17:14, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Which pages are you referring to? - Arjayay (talk) 17:26, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's out of my sign now. I will show when I will see it again. But 100% I have seen names with no pages. HistorianV (talk) 17:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi HistorianV! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Todar Mal that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. You cannot highlight one particular caste in the lede since all opinions regarding his possible caste are mentioned in the appropriate section below as per WP:NPOV. Wikipedia is not meant for caste promotion! Ekdalian (talk) 07:54, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's not a caste promotion. I am referring to a clan to which he originally was which I found while reading a book. So, I added it. I don't think it hurts wikipedia rules by any means and I will take care of minor edit thing and if my references are correct as it was written in a book. No one can actually stop me to add details to the pages. HistorianV (talk) 08:10, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have provided proper citation and speaking everything on basis of references only. If you can disprove them you can remove them till then You can't edit my changes. I have reverted the changes till then HistorianV (talk) 08:48, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Khatri and Kayastha are mentioned as probable castes in the section below; multiple reliable sources are cited. You can't pick a new one and mention in the lede, that too citing a Raj era source! If you continue such caste promotion and edit warring, you may be blocked from editing. Ekdalian (talk) 12:14, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Todar Mal. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Ekdalian (talk) 12:29, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ohkay. It was happening to me for the first time so didn't knew it. I would just appreciate if it can be mentioned alongside of other castes. Would it work? HistorianV (talk) 12:39, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please find modern scholarly work (post Raj era) by reliable authors, as mentioned in the article talk page! You may share the url so that the same can be verified. It may be added after you share such a reliable source. Thanks. Ekdalian (talk) 15:24, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am using "Feeding the Baniya : peasants and usurers in Western India" published after Raj Era. Can I use it as reliable source? I believe so HistorianV (talk) 15:32, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you share the url? I shall check once you share. Also read WP:V! Ekdalian (talk) 17:36, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

On the Page 37; https://archive.org/details/feedingbaniyapea0000hard/page/36/mode/2up?q=todar+mal " Report on the Census of Marwar and Mallani, vol. 1, The Castes of Marwar, Jodhpur, 1894, pp. 113-18. This report mentions that Akbar’s great minister, Todar Mal, was from the mutsadi family of the Lodha Baniyas of Rajasthan. " I gave all this in citation while adding to the Page. HistorianV (talk) 03:14, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, sorry; the above source cites the old Raj era source only; we need an independent view or else scholarly interpretation of the same! Ekdalian (talk) 07:44, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia! However, you should know that it is not a good idea to remove citations or information sourced through citations simply because a link to a source is not working, as you did to Ram Chandra Vikal. Dead links should not be deleted. Instead, please repair or replace the link, if possible, and ensure properly sourced information is retained. Often, a live substitute link can be found. Links not used as references, notes or citations are not as important, such as those listed in the "External links" or "Further reading" sections, but bad links in those sections should also be fixed if possible. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Auric talk 10:07, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks but I tried finding similar link from any reliable source but was unable to find. I removed it to make sure only working links are on wikipedia and those which can actually help readers. HistorianV (talk) 12:06, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
