Television broadcasting
editSince you say that one of your interests is television broadcasting, if it isn't too much trouble for you could you look through some of the recent edits for Ronald20 (talk · contribs). The user has been doing a few good edits (as far as I can tell), plus a bunch of nonsense edits (which I and others have been reverting). (Also: Thanks for fixing the tables at Eyewitness News—I know just enough about tables and CSS to be very dangerous.) BlankVerse ∅ 08:20, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- I see that you've checked out Ronald20. Thank you. I've left a couple of notes at Vandalism in progress, including noting an IP that I think he is also using, but there seems to be no response from the admins there. I think I may end up having to ask a favor of one of the admins that I know to try and get Ronald20 blocked for awhile. It's such a waste of time doing all those reverts of nonsense. BlankVerse ∅ 13:50, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
- No problem, glad to help. I'd like to see him get blocked too; it's really annoying to have to pick up after him. - Hinto 16:29, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
I saw that you are also cleaning up TV articles where an anon user is dumping a huge amount of background information for the station. I am also in the process of cleaning up such articles and would like to know what is the extent of these edits from your perspective. Thanks. Pentawing 20:55, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
- That guy knows a lot about MANY stations, so it's kind of hard to track down his edits. But I'd begin with stations that were affected (even remotely) by the New World Communications, Westinghouse and Savvoy-Fox affiliation switches of the mid-1990s (eg. those in Atlanta, Birmingham and Dallas). He also seems very interested with stations that were formerly independent (eg. KSTW, KCPQ).
- I think I've also tracked down several IPs that he uses, so of course it'd be easier to do it that way. But I don't know if it's appropriate to list them here. Hope I answered your question. :) - Hinto 23:30, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
Hi...please don't file templates in article categories; it causes the articles that the template is on to be filed in the category as well. Mostly it's not a big deal, because the articles are already in the same category, but it is a problem when you get to KVOS, which doesn't belong in Category:Television stations in British Columbia. (Similarly, the Detroit TV template was once filed in Category:Television stations in Detroit and Category:Television stations in Canada; this caused all the Detroit stations to appear in the Canadian category.) I know other people do it, but it should actually be undone when you see it, rather than imitated. Bearcat 20:07, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. (The case with KVOS completely escaped me.) - Hinto 23:30, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for cleaning up some of the wording in the article and applying the Knight Ridder template. Sometimes when you write an article from scratch you smooth-over the grammar in your head as you think about what to add. Also, I didn't know about the KR template, so it was very helpful. Rkevins82 01:21, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
- No problem, glad to help. I only found out about the KR template today anyway. :P - Hinto 01:36, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
There are two things that can be done:
- Create a new article entitled with the station's call letters and redirect.
- Create a new article as above but put up Channel 61 for deletion.
In my opinion, I don't think this article can be made as a disambig. Pentawing 21:46, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
Re: Network sorting
editThe reason I'm sorting these is because I think of sorting by W or K is like sorting a group of books beginning with "the" by the letter "T." Every book would begin with the same letter, just as every station in this case begins with "K" or "W." Some stations were already sorted this way in the regional categories, so I don't see why the national category can't be different. --/ɛvɪs/ /tɑːk/ /kɑntɹɪbjuʃ(ə)nz/ 01:10, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
Wikimania 2006
editIn the course of informal discussions at Wikimania in Frankfurt the possibility of having Wikimania 2006 in Vancouver was raised. What makes Canada desirable for such a meeting is the capacity to draw delegates from the United States. For many overseas delegates, however, U.S. visa requirements make that country less attractive. All else being equal, Europeans see Vancouver as a more interesting Canadian city to visit than Toronto, the only other Canadian city to receive significant consideration.
Preliminary bids from various cities need to be made by Sept. 30, 2005. A short list will be drawn from those bids. Is there enough interest and energy to put together such a conference in Vancouver for August 2006? The people in Frankfurt put on a tremendous gathering, with a core organizational group of about a dozen people. Some 400 people attended from 52 different countries.
I expect that a North American Wikimania could be a little smaller, but we would still need a suitable facility. It would be good to know that such a facility is available for a conference; the type of youth hostel facility that was used in Frankfurt does not exist in North America. What would be the cost of hosting such a conference at UBC?
I'm looking for interest and commitment. To that end I am proposing a Vancouver meetup for Saturday, Sept. 24. If someone has a reasonably accesible place for such a meeting please let me know. (I live in Richmond, but something in the city of Vancouver would be more appropriate.)
I am spammiong this to all Vancouver area Wikipedians that I can find. Please reply to my talk page. Eclecticology 21:50:16, 2005-09-03 (UTC)
New York City Radio Stations
editI wanted to ask if you could clean up the articles on most commercial New York City radio stations. I know that radio stations aren't really your forte, but these articles were apparently done by the same anon user that does many tv stations. And after seeing the good cleanup work that you've done on these tv stations, I was wondering if you could do the same for these radio stations. It should be noted that some stations have already been cleaned up to varying degrees, so you should check the history of these pages if you choose to edit. ErikNY 03:06, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

TV Market
editHi, I have noticed that in the past you have edited or created a template for a television DMA (market) in North America, or have edited an articles about television stations. Currently their are several different styles of the template being used. Because of this i have set up a workshop to obtain input on setting up a common configuration for these templates. Feel free to assist at Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations/markets. Also while you are their, feel free to leave you name as a participant on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations as well as any comments you might have, to help wikipedia improve articles on television stations. If you know some one else who has helped contribute to these templates or you think would like to help, please pass this mesage on to them.--Boothy443 | trácht ar 06:42, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Des Voeux Road
editI noticed your recent rearrangements to the Des Voeux Road article [1]. The previous arrangement actually reflects they're three roads sharing part of their names, and that was the recent why materials on transport and history spanned across the three sections. After your edit the original arrangement was lost. I'm curious to know why would you think it's better to present transport and history of the different roads in the same section, separated from their own sections. Thanks. — Instantnood 18:47, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Aberdeen Centre
editHi, I saw that you re-arranged the photos on the Aberdeen Centre page. I dunno about your browser, but the image re-positioning makes the Edit buttons mess up in Firefox. Does it mess up for your browser too? Also, I personally feel that having too many images together like that makes it look a little messy (although the pics can't be spread out much due to the article's size). Deep Cove
editHello... noticed that you've moved the Deep Cove article. I've restored it to the original name pending discussion. The rationale being, the original title is more accurate and helps to avoid perpetuating the misconception that Deep Cove is a separate entity from the District of North Vancouver. (Also, I've come across a number of references to different "Deep Coves" in WikiPedia, and it's only a matter of time before they get Wiki'd.) Let's discuss, though - perhaps a more appropriate title would be Deep Cove (North Vancouver). --Ckatz 05:49, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Pearl River Delta
editHi, in this edit to Pearl River Delta, you correctly removed a bunch of Chinese place names from the article. As shown in the first line of the diff, though, you also changed part of the IPA pronunciation code for the name from tɕy55 to tsy55. Fair use rationale for Image:Ftv-luk1.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ftv-luk1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Bentall Centre
editI am curious. You moved Bentall Centre (Vancouver) over a redirect to the shopping centre in the UK which shares the same name, without any discussion whatsoever. Your reason was that it was more notable. Enlighten me: without any discussion whatsoever, how did you determine that this was the general concencus? What reasons do you have for suggesting it's more notable? TheIslander 23:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I don't particularly object to the move. After leaving the note above, I did a bit of Googling myself, and as you point out the centre in Vancouver returns more hits than that in Kingston. My initial reaction was because, in the UK, I'd definitely give the Bentall Centre in Kingston greater notability, but I wasn't particularly aware of the notability of the Vancouver centre outside the UK. The only thing I object to really is the fact that it was done so quickly - even leaving a quick note on the talk page a day before moving it would have been better, as it would have given some indication as to your intent. Also, had it been me, I'd have placed the dab notice on the Vancouver article immediately, so as not to give the impression of elevating the status of the Vancouver centre above that of the Kingston centre. Still, not many editors would have responded to my message above in such a detailed and polite manner, so I thank you for that ;). TheIslander 00:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Glad you like it now. Thanks for pointing out some of the stuff to make the KERO-TV page better for the readers to read about KERO-TV. Makes me feel good to make someone happy with the changes I've made.--JoeCool950 (talk) 07:00, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

editSee here. It states Highway 7 starts 300 m west of Coleman Avenue and ends 300m west of United Boulevard. Then begins 95 m east of Ottawa Street until the interchange with Highway 1 in Hope. єmarsee • Speak up! 23:56, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
TVYVR
editWith the death of Geocities coming soon, do you plan on moving your historical clips on Vancouver television to another host or to Youtube? It would be a shame if these clips weren't moved to another site. Thanks. єmarsee • Speak up! 20:34, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- The death of GeoCities is in about less than two weeks from now. With your files still hosted on Geocities, they will disappear soon. I was wondering if I could have permission to host the files on Geocities on my Youtube account (with full attributions to you of course) until you can have the time to redo them in a higher quality. Thanks. єmarsee • Speak up! 04:51, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh crap. I realized I don't have the Broadcast One opens and close and the CityPulse 2003/04 open/closes. Half of the presentation site is already down. See here. Is there someway to get these files? Thanks. єmarsee • Speak up! 23:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've complied a list of videos that I don't have from archived versions from archive.org. Unfortunately, the 3rd CKVU page wasn't archived and the two CIVI pages aren't archived fully, so I might have missed more. I counted 49 videos for CKVU (excluding the Global idents) and 20 for CIVI. Thanks.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Ktvt.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Ktvt.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:20, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of KARK
editI have nominated KARK, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/KARK. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

- Hi Hinto. I'd like to nominate your new article for DYK, is that okay? If so, we need a "hook". If you're not familiar with DYK hooks, they are a short phrase that highlights an interesting fact from the article. I can come up with one, but as you know the content better, feel free to suggest one. Best, The Interior (Talk) 02:39, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Nothing really pops out right away, so I suggested yours and two more. Here's the nomination page: Template:Did you know nominations/Metrotown, Burnaby. You should watchlist it, in case a reviewer asks for some changes. Will this be your first DYK? The Interior (Talk) 03:48, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Metrotown, Burnaby
editOn 7 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Metrotown, Burnaby, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the concept for the Canadian neighbourhood of Metrotown originated in Baltimore, Maryland? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Metrotown, Burnaby. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Wbns-ewn-open.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Wbns-ewn-open.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. ✗plicit 02:05, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
