Thanks for that, and I've added some comments at WP:SFD as you suggested. I'd be happier to see the stub type renamed, rather than got rid of entirely, especially since it is the primary stub type of WikiProject University of Cambridge. A.C. Norman (talk) 06:26, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Further to the above, there are now 54 articles at Categ*ory:University of Cambridge stubs, and I am sure more will soon follow. I think that the scope of the stub type is quite clear, and many articles relate to the University of Cambridge specifically which simply don't fit into the broader category of "Universities" or "UK education". Thai museums

HI. Hey hold off on any AFDs just yet. I don't see all of them as AFD fodder if they could potentially become full articles. Most of the Thai museum sub stubs could be expanded fully. They were started from a missing WP:Museums list in bot form and as yet very few have been expanded. I've un-sub-stubbed three in just a few minutes, I'll try to get them into decent stub shape rather than one liners. The Bald One ^{White cat} 10:30, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm actually quite glad you reminded me about them as they've been sitting at sub-stub status for far too long. Half of them have been fleshed out today such as Bangkok Folk Museum. I've also created the template below. Also let me know at stub proposal what you would say to a thailand-struct-stub and bangkok-stubs. Cheers

thank you for letting me know how to create a new stub template. i didn't knew it. i create it because i'm gonna write at about 10-15 articles on waterfalls in sri lanka like this. they all gonna be stubs because one can't find much of the information about waterfalls. not even much info on them in what considered to be the hand book of sri lankan waterfalls, A Guide to the waterfalls in Sri Lanka by Eberhard Kautz. i thought if i create {{SriLanka-waterfall-stub}} it would be helpful to develop them and other editors can understand easily. but i have no obligations with this practice of WP. but can you tell me what can i do here?. wishes!--chanakal (talk) 03:22, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Closing opera

I;ve closed it amd made a decision based on the arguments given. I think it is best to split by language rather than century although you ma need to correct the names. For instance if you have England-opera-stub for english this can be confusing as it may refer to operas also from the United States, Canada, Australia etc. So I've linked them e.g English-language-opera-stub etc. Seems sensible for an opera-bio-stub or opera-composer-stub and a stub cat for opera buildings too for better organization. I concluded that by century was a bit too generic and would be better split by language given a common theme or style from a certian language that some editors may be working on. OK? Man those opera guys are awkward aren't they. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera. I;m not sure they fully undertsand about stub sorting. A justification against the creation of Italian-opera-stub was that "we have a perfectly viable Category:Italian-language operas". Ahem, the idea is that we root out the stubs so they can be developed. I think the Italian and French opera stubs should be created. If you think this isn't the correct thing to do let me know, but there are over 100 stubs for each. Personally I think there is a strong sense of WP:OWN with the project that we are "forbidden" to sort out oversized categorized in coordination with the rest of the project. i would also propose sorting out Category:Opera singer stubs which has well over 500 in it by some of the major nationalities.

I;ve also created and sorted Category:Opera structure stubs which apparently was unnecessary. It now has well over twice the recommendation in it. The Bald One ^{White cat} 08:54, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Stub sorting

Hi I've been pretty busy. I've created Category:Buddhist monastery stubs-there are exactly 100 now. I;ve also created Category:Thai building and structure stubs and Category:Bangkok stubs. I;m still in the middle of tagging so there ar elikely to be far more than the 125 odd for each we have at present, especially thai struct stubs. It might have been better to create a Bangkok-struct-stub but I wasn't sure if there was 60 elsewhere in Thailand. It can always be resorted in the future if problematic. It will make more sense once I have tagged the building articles outside of Bangkok and covered the whole of Thailand. I;ve also proposed a regtional split of Asian football club stubs? OK? Yup OK, yes I know about the 800. I only tend to propose a split though if it involves more than one category. E.g by splitting one it also relieves another. If there is no objection i think I'll create an upmerged Japanese bridge stub which makes sense as there are often a high number of bridges in each prefecture let alone in Japan, after all we have all those prefecture rail stubs etc so why not a national one for bridges? There are only around 20 at present but using the commons I think I can make it over 60 for some of the major bridges in the country. At present we only have 32 articles on Japanese bridges. In reality we should have several hundred. I can wait for more approval if you like, if you think this would not be a good idea. P.S I;ve finished sorting Thailand at the moment there are 207 struct stubs and 171 Bangkok stubs. The Bald One ^{White cat} 13:34, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Some days I have a huge amount of energy for editing and devleoping wiki, others I fele pretty lazy and not really up for it. Probably best I get some things done while it lasts! Hi Grutness. I've created the {{dam-struct-stub}} and one for Asia, United States and Japan. If Japan doesn;t hit 60 see the commons there are as many dams in Japan as United States by the looks of it. Hundreds of Japanese dams but I'll upmerge into asia for now. If you could help apply the {{US-dam-struct-stub}} to American dams I'll take on the rest. Actually India looks as if it qualifies so I'll create an India-dam-struct-stub too. Enemy

I've undone the Auckland band influences again as you are incorrect. The Scavengers and the likes were primarily influenced by the same acts that the Enemy were..the likes of the early US punk acts, Iggy and the Velvets. That and glam and US 60s punk. You'll have to take my word on this but I lived in the same house as the band in 77/78, hung out with them for years. We'd sit and listen to Iggy and Lou albums over an over again. The Scavengers formed in 1976 as The 1B darlings. The Buzzcocks didn't get a record released in NZ until 1979 and were almost unknown until that year there. The 2nd and third gen Auckland punk bands, from late 1978 were heavily UK influenced but not the early ones.--Rena1027 (talk) 16:16, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Auckland map

Could I have a locator map of the Auckland region, similar to those you've made of Northland, Taranaki, Marlborough and West Coast for me. I looked at Image:Auckland_urban_area.png but it doesn't quite cover the full area, and I'd prefer to have no text on the map since I'll use it for mi: as well as en:. I don't need the urban area shaded.

Yeah, well the interviewer (not DF, since he's in Auckland) said that David Farrier had written his own article and had also vandalised it himself to show what typical WP vandalism might look like. We actually had quite a long conversation about people writing their own articles and why it's a bad thing, and also whether someone like David would pass WP's notability guidelines (of course, they chopped it down to a few seconds, but that was to be expected). I don't really see it as having been "had" (though I was with the gratuitous science fiction reference, which you learn to deal with if you've been involved in s.f. organisation for any length of time). I don't think you were had either. David's style is to poke fun at things, and he obviously vandalised his own article for humourous effect on the show. He didn't report that it was quickly reverted, but overall the article was a decent positive piece on wikipedia. Before he filmed I suggested to him that he nominate the article about himself for deletion and follow what happens, which I think would have been funnier and more in keeping with the wikipedia ethos (and likely to end in a funny-bad way), but he didn't take that up. The page about him has now been speedy deleted, and fair enough too as there's no evidence of notability (I've looked), but I'm a little confused as to why David's user page got deleted, that seems drastic for a minor bit of WP:POINT vandalism. Knox etc

Thanks for your message and advice. I'll look into adding the complementary elements of my draft Knox article to yours, but you're welcome to cut & paste too. If it helps and is of interest I have two photos that I thought I would put with the article I was drafting - until I discovered I need to accumulate edits before I can upload. One is a photo of a photo in the 1910 Jubilee publication of the first Knox (constructed in 1860 and long since demolished) - it is unattributed in the publication and as far as I can determine would be well out of copyright anyway. I emailed Knox about it and they had the same view about copyright and approved its use on Wikipedia. The other photo is one I took in 2005 from George St north of Hanover St. I'd be happy to e-mail both to you, as I may not have the right to upload for a while.Boyofthemanse (talk) 13:35, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
