Ternyik

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Newspaper request

Hi, I take it you have a newspapers.com account? Would you mind checking to see if they have a certain page? (Sunday Oregonian, November 16, 1902, page 7.) It would be great just to know if it's there, or a clipping would be even better. The part I'm interested in is the continuation of the obituary of Frances Fuller Victor. It starts on p. 4, which the U. of O. has archived; but for some reason p. 7 is missing from theirs. Any help appreciated. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 01:00, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Pete, I checked Newspapers.com but they don't have the Oregonian, only the earlier Morning Oregonian. I sent an e-mail to Franny Gaede, the head of "Digital Scholarship Services" at the UO Library, requesting that page 7 be scanned. She's usually quick to respond, but I don't know her vacation schedule and, well, it is summer. Fingers crossed. - Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 01:55, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

Sorry to report the vaunted Digital Newspaper Project failed to give much help. Apparently the digitized newspapers are created from microfilm, and the response I got said the microfilm of the page was probably illegible or missing. The advice was to check the microfilm. I e-mailed back asking whether the UO has the microfilm, but no response yet. It seems not to be the responsibility of the Digital Newspaper Project to tack down the microfilm (or even better, the print newspaper!) to find the rest of the obit. I recall the days when libraries kept bound paper volumes of journals and newspapers, but I'm apparently older than dirt, now. I'm wondering whether the Oregonian might have such an archive?
