Hi there

edit

I was just wondering, are you the same Francis Hoar mentioned in the article? xC | 15:12, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

(PS - you can reply on this page or on my talk page)

Yes

edit

I hope that, notwithstanding that Frank was my grandfather, the material stands for its historic accuracy. I will add sources in due course but the websites are a start.

OK, adding sources will make the article verifiable. You might also want to read up on what are considered reliable sources.
By the way, you can sign your posts on talk pages (and are supposed to, for identification) using four tildes (~~~~). Wish you all the best,xC | 15:26, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I removed the COI tag, as your explanation and addition of references seems adequate rebuttal of the accusation, and its a decent enough article. But I'm not sure you need to list all his grandchildren just to get your name on Wikipedia! Regards, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 14:10, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey there

edit

I noticed this edit. Although I'm sure it genuinely must be in your family's possession, do we have any other reliable source to back up that claim? If its possible to give us some link, newspaper ref, anything of the sort which can establish the same, it would be better in terms of WP:V.

Keep up the great work, the article's progressing really well!

Happy editing,xC | 17:56, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate images uploaded

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tyndale arms-1-.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Tyndale Arms-1-.jpg. The copy called Image:Tyndale Arms-1-.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Re: Tyndall image

edit

A few things:

  • The image had a very restrictive license ("may not be downloaded, copied, reproduced, transmitted, stored, sold or distributed without the prior written consent of the copyright holder") and could have been speedily deleted under CSD I3.
  • The user was given fair warning, seven days before the deletion.
  • I'm one of only three admins left who work with images, and given that I handle almost 20,000 of them a week, it's completely unfeasible to run around putting notices on all relevant talk pages and interested WikiProjects while putting the backlog on hold.

Yes, it's good - and I appreciate the work you're doing. If the copyright holder has licensed it under Creative Commons, could you get them to send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org stating this? The image may otherwise be deleted as a potential copyright violation. east.718 at 19:13, January 21, 2008

Charles Worsley

edit

I am about to delete the article Charles Worsley because it has copyright problems. I noticed in the history of the article that you were responsible for the majority of the section Family history, which was not tainted with the copyright problems for which I am deleting the article, so I am placing it here so that you can put it back into the article at some point.

==Family history==

Worsley was a son of a prosperous merchant from Manchester, Ralph Worsley of Platt Hall. He was descended from a branch of the Worsley family that settled at Booth, in Lancashire. They were descended from Sir Elias de Workesley, who settled Worsley, Lancashire (which had been the family seat for more than five hundred years).[1] Sir Elias, who is buried at Rhodes, joined Duke Robert II of Normandy (son of King William the Conqueror of England) on the First Crusade. Worsley's great, great, great grandfather was Sir Geoffrey Worsley of Booth. Other branches of the family settled at Appuldurcombe, Isle of Wight (represented, through the female line, by the Earls of Yarborough) and Hovingham Hall, Yorkshire (including Katharine, Duchess of Kent), as well as at Platt Hall.

There will be a detailed explanation for the reason for the delete on the article's talk page. --PBS (talk) 11:46, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:Frank Hoar.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Blurpeace 23:41, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Patrick Leonard.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Patrick Leonard.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 12:05, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Matthew Tindal2.jpg needs authorship information

edit
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Matthew Tindal2.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Francis Hoar}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Charles Worsley.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Charles Worsley.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
