Nomination of Philosophy, Theory, and Practice in Biology for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Philosophy, Theory, and Practice in Biology is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Philosophy, Theory, and Practice in Biology until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Elmidae (talk · contribs) 21:03, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Philosophy, Theory, and Practice in Biology

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Philosophy, Theory, and Practice in Biology requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=ptb;c=ptpbio;page=about;xc=1;g=ptpbiog. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa (talk) 16:11, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

DYK for International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology

edit

On 28 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the first official resolution of the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology was that they would never meet in a place with anti-sodomy laws? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Categories

edit

Hi there. A small tip: on for instance Mikiko Kainuma there is no need to include the "Women scientists" category as that's really just a container and not meant for individuals, the "Japanese women scientists" category is much better as it's more specific (and was included already) and falls in the "Women scientists" container category anyway. Hope that makes sense. :) -Kj cheetham (talk) 22:58, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

  Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary!
