Hello, I think that your reverts and the warning template on my Talk page were both wrong. According to Black Sabbath's article, they're called a rock band, and not heavy metal. I just tried to reflect that on some of the band's songs. Also per WP:DTR, you cannot template me since I'm editing regularly now. Thanks-Teh Thrasher (talk) 13:26, 22 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Teh Thrasher: Changes to genre's requires sources, discussion and consensus (no matter how long you've been editing), if you want to change these, start a discussion on the article's talk page. Mlpearc (open channel) 17:28, 22 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re: Flyer22222

Remove warning as this username is NOT against any policy.

I believe you've misread the warning and the username policy. As a result, I've restored the warning and highlighted the link to the policy. The warning does not say the current username is against policy. It says, and I quote, "your username, "Flyer22222", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is too close to an existing username." This is covered by WP:IMPERSONATOR. Thanks for your concern. If you feel that my restoration of this warning is a problem, please take it up on AN or ANI. Viriditas (talk) 21:40, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Viriditas: To which existing account is Flyer22222 tying to impersonate ? Flyer22 is not too similar to be a concern or breach of policy. There is a big difference between 22 and 22222. Mlpearc (open channel) 23:12, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Considering that this account has been used by a child for childish vandalism and original research, I tend to be skeptical. Further, several editors, including myself have expressed concern that the username is not different enough to prevent others from confusing the two accounts (per the policy). If the user wants to continue editing, they should choose a unique account name. I disagree that there is a "big difference" between the two, as a casual glance in the watchlist or recent changes makes it easy to mistake one for the other. Viriditas (talk) 02:54, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. (about the username, we're not discussing the editing habits) Mlpearc (open channel) 02:59, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Let's seek community consensus, then. User:John Carter agrees with me.[1] So that's 2-1, at this point. Let's also ping User:Flyer22. Viriditas (talk) 03:09, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I said I disagree, I didn't say "lets have a blowout discussion on my talk page". I don't need a discussion, I said what I wanted to. Mlpearc (open channel) 03:15, 19 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

So, thanks for the help, as I am new, Mlpearc. However, I am wondering why you removed the medical link to meprobamate. It indicated it could cause poisonings and it is an ingredient in the drug given to Bruce Lee the night he died. It was taken off the market, having similar dangerous problems to other barbiturates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Intelligent11 (talkcontribs) 03:01, 22 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kill 'Em All

Why do you keep changing the guitar credit to Mustaine, despite all sourced material of the past 30+ years stating it to be Hammett who played on the album? You've been around WP for a while, so you should know better than to edit-war pointlessly like this. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:13, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

How can my reference from Metallica.com be wrong ? What sources are you reading ? Mlpearc (open channel) 21:18, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Lemme quote, per your source:
  • James Hetfield - Guitar, Vocals
  • Lars Ulrich - Drums
  • Kirk Hammett - Guitar
  • Cliff Burton - Bass
Seriously, what is wrong with you? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:20, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
And further proof, from the album itself. It states KIRK HAMMETT, lead guitar. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:23, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mac Dreamstate Well, Sorry, I apologize, I was reading the writing credits and not the list of actual personal. Again my bad. Mlpearc (open channel) 21:36, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Mac Dreamstate P.S. No I am not blind ! Mlpearc (open channel) 21:48, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
No worries. It's just that the article frequently gets vandalised (every month) by IPs who change it to Mustaine on the basis of hearsay, "because it sounds like him", or just to be dicks. Your mistake was an honest one, so all's good. Apologies from my side on the edit-scuffle. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 22:03, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Aviator.JPG

A tag has been placed on File:Aviator.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Regarding UAA report of User:HFEdit

Hi. I reported the user HFEdit to UAA in the early hours of this morning - You declined the UAA report as not a blatant violation of policy and recommended I refer to the COI noticeboard. Jytdog has disagreed with your call and is posting to the user's talk page directly. I disagree with him, and have recommended that he discuss it with yourself directly. I will input if asked to, but please see User_talk:HFEdit#username_issue to read where we are right now. Thanks! reverted my edits for 'The Dark Side of the Moon';

I don't understand - the current info was out of date which I corrected (even though it too will soon be out of date) and no-where does the article mention the achievement of being the longest-running charting album on Billboard 200. I'm a bit of novice when it comes to Wikipedia edits but I think my changes added value and included good references.

I reverted your edit because the part you changed, (to me), didn't need changing, it was fine the way it was, simple as that. Mlpearc (open channel) 23:29, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough - that's you prerogative. Be aware though, that it's very disheartening for a newbie to see that out-of-date info (881 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 chart) trumps my edit (currently 892 and rising), or that mention of a hugely significant accomplishment (far and away the longest-charting album of all time) is deemed revert-worth, particularly after I took the time to learn how to properly reference the facts I was adding and format my edits in a Wikipedia-standard way. Although your intent demonstrates the degree to which Wikipedia is policed unfortunately the effect has been the opposite - apparently inaccuracy is 'fine'.

I already reported the user I was "edit warring" with for erasing referenced content. Though technically we were "edit warring" he was damaging the page, all I was doing was fixing the issues he caused. Hopefully the report will come into effect sooner rather than later. - User:Funkatastic

@Funkatastic: The point is, so are you ! I saw your report and this is not vandalism, so your report is moot, and reported to the wrong noticeboard. Both you and the other editor are engaged in edit warring. Mlpearc (open channel) 02:40, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edit induced a citation error. Also, it seems you are using |year= incorrectly, when you should be using |date= (though I did not check each instance). Please review the documentation, thanks.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  13:56, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. Mlpearc (open channel) 02:51, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Could there be an issue with interpretation of the documentation? I'm sorry, but I still don't see any instances where |date= is incorrectly changed to |year=, as there is no "date" but only a "4-digit year" in all of those instances changed. So, AFAICT, the changes are all in accordance with the documentation as well as Help:CS1. -- Ohc ¡digame! 04:13, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Tom.Reding: Could you please clarify your point regarding |year= and |date=
The first edit here was made to a {{cite web}} and doesn't use |ref=harv. Per Template:Citation Style documentation#date, it should use |date=, but the script changed it to |year=. I don't know what can be more explicit than a binary logic tree.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  13:25, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Ohconfucius:, @Tom.Reding: The full parameter set of {{cite web}} below shows the use of both |year= and |date=. The edit in this case were all years ie. 1975 or 2015 not, December 6 or 17 March.
{{cite web |url= |title= |last= |first= |author= |authorlink= |last2= |first2= |author2= |authorlink2= |date= |year= |editor-last= |editor-first= |editor= |editor-link= |editor1-last= |editor1-first= |editor1-link= |editor2-last= |editor2-first= |editor2-link= |editors= |website= |series= |publisher= |location= |page= |pages= |at= |language= |script-title= |trans-title= |type= |format= |arxiv= |asin= |bibcode= |doi= |doi-broken-date= |isbn= |issn= |jfm= |jstor= |lccn= |mr= |oclc= |ol= |osti= |pmc= |pmid= |rfc= |ssrn= |zbl= |id= |archiveurl= |archivedate= |deadurl= |accessdate= |quote= |ref= |separator= |postscript= |subscription= |registration=}}

Mlpearc (open channel) 19:19, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Would you simultaneously use |page= and |pages= because they both appear in the full parameter list?   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  19:26, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Mine was not the best example. The best example is the documentation, which clarifies any naïve usage. Page/s immediately comes to mind because most people put |pages=[first page]-[last page], and not the precise location of the information in the document. This, too, comes from a lack of reading the documentation before using it. I am previously guilty of both.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  19:57, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I still say that the template handles both parameters, date & year and that they're two different things. So it seems to me the script is working fine and is safe to use. Mlpearc (open channel) 20:59, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'll continue the conversation at/with User talk:Ohconfucius/script. For me, replying there will be more time-efficient, visible, and relevant to changing/pausing the script's year/date behavior.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  21:46, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Patrick Stewart Page

Hi,

Just wanted to mention that I added the entry for Patrick Stewart playing a part in the BBC TV series Extras after watching the episode that he was in. Thus there is nothing to cite, the fact remains that he was in that episode (named after him anyways), could cite a page from IMDB or bbc to validate further, but at the time I added the entry my only source was the actual episode.

Don't take this the wrong way, anyone who strives to make Wikipedia a better place is a good person, but the information I added is easily verifiable (and possibly not needing a citation).

Have a very nice day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.128.229.158 (talk) 14:01, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your note, if a cite can easily be found by a reader then there should not be any problem citing your entry. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 16:26, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Help:CS1 errors#bad date parameters

Greetings! I was wondering if you could help me with an issue related to the Help:CS1 errors#bad date parameters? At the page, one of the items in the list goes:

"...errors in |date= caused by errors in |year=, |month=, or |day=..."

It seems, however, that |day= isn't working, and it results into a following error message:

Unknown parameter |day= ignored (help)

The reason why I am willing to use the {{Citation | ... | year =... | month =(in letters)... | day =...}} instead of {{Citation | date= YYYY-MM-DD}} format, is that the latter doesn't fully work with the {{sfn}} references. You see, in the newspapers and journals, the dates follow the form YYYY-MM-DD, but the {{sfn}} references seem to work only when the it's referring to {{para|year}} (beside the author's last name, of course). The only non-functioning part seems to be {{para|day}}, which leaves an ugly error message at the end of the reference. Do you think this could be fixed? Cheers! @Mlpearc: I am not sure how that works, I am updating the page to be accurate. There is no conflict of Interest as I am just adding historical facts including accurate Age, band timelines and discography.
@NJY1976: Please have sources or the information will just be deleted again. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 18:37, 17 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Mlpearc: I am sorry if I sound stupid, but Wikipedia is new to me. I was just trying to add the chronological history. I can link to the other wikipedia pages, but I am not sure what else to add to prove that it is correct.

Few questions about GN'R albums

Hey there. I did some work on the tables at Appetite for Destruction. I was wondering are the "cert refs" necessary in the 'Certification' section (check Argentina and Japan). Regarding Use Your Illusion I, it's kind of bewildering why the personal is presented at every track. As far as I know, they should be credited after the track listing. Other thing that caught my eye are separate song sections such as "Perfect Crime", consisted only of sentence such as "The fifth track on the album and was written by X & Y." Some advice would be helpful.--Retrohead (talk) 13:06, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, I saw how you handled Appetite, and did the same to Illusion I. Dropped the personnel and merged the sourced information to one 'Songs' section.--Retrohead (talk) 17:34, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Love Hurts

What "Reliable Source" would you like if not Youtube or iTunes?

Schneider/Cole entry - iTunes proves that the song was in fact on a released album. Would you prefer a reference to a music retailer selling the album? Or a link to Melinda's website?

Kernaghan/Britt entry - The album in question "Electric Rodeo 2" was a limited edition bonus 2 disc version of his 2003 Electric Rodeo album. The standard version of the album is still available to this day (Platinum selling btw), the bonus 2 disc version is no longer available for purchase. I have read the biographies of inventors who developed the television and it's variants and I understand the components underlying the technology.

I ask you to not revert my addition to the article because I will be editing it for more clarity and hoping that it will come closer to the democratization of the information on Wikipedia.

Thanks for your effort, & concern.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but I did mention on User talk:Beeblebrox that I was placing a deletion request on my warning templates page. Hi! F6 (no fair use rationale) is only to be used if the file is claimed to be used under fair use. If the uploader claims to be the uploader and you suspect that this isn't the case, you should instead use F9 (copyright violation), list the file at WP:PUF or something similar. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:55, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Who is harrasing whom?

I responded to montanabw's comment to me that she left on the ANI talk page. Which part of my reply constitutes harassment? I was specifically told to address montanabw directly by The Rambling Man, as you can see on my talk page.--LJU2ORD (talk) 21:07, 16 February 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by LJU2ORD (talkcontribs)

@LJU2ORD: The way I read your "continued conversation" is that you just moved your POV pushing to montanabw's talk page, with no level headed attempts at collaboration what so ever, hence harassment. Mlpearc (open channel) 21:27, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I still don't understand why my point-of-view constitutes POV-pushing, but montanabw's does not. (I mean, it's perfectly acceptable for you to come to that conclusion, but it's hardly an objective truth. For instance, Montanabw's description of the Lipizzan controversy between Austria and Slovenia was full of factual inaccuracies.) In any case, I was told to address montanabw directly, but I then you accused me of harassment for doing just that. I honestly don't get the logic, but if you want me to stay off her talk pages in general, I'll be happy to oblige. She is not worth my nerves anyway.--LJU2ORD (talk) 21:34, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
It's apparent you don't understand how you're POV pushing, by the discussion at ANI and now, your pushing it on me ? Mlpearc (open channel) 21:53, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, just buzz off from my talk page and I'll keep out of yours. Agreed? --LJU2ORD (talk) 01:59, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Solar System

Hi Mlpearc,

On 2015-02-10 I tried to correct some inconsistencies in the https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Solar_System page, but these were reverted. However, I would like to point out the inconsistencies that I tried to fix.

Paragraphs on inner planets (https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Solar_System#Inner_planets) are indented, but those on outer planets (https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Solar_System#Outer_planets) are not.

Also references to main articles for inner planets are made through link in the paragraph, but references to main articles on outer planets are made through explicit "Main article: ...".

In general, I also tried to fix the frequent use of "Main article: ...", since I find that the use of in-text link makes it clear enough that the reader can dive in and read a main article, if she wants.

Pedophilia and Sex Trafficking issue on talk page

I suggest you do not provide implicit support for pedophilia and child sex trafficking silence. It took you eight minutes to delete a forum comment designed to discuss an important anti-sex trafficking issue. This was curiously, a knee-jerk reaction on your part. Just eight minutes for you to decide (without any discussion or consultation) that nobody needs to worry about pedophilia or child rape. Just eight minutes. 180.150.134.149 (talk) 11:42, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Question

In my recent edit to the United States page, I asked in my edit summary "For the grammar or just the independence section? The independence section was recently changed without consensus but it's been like this for a long time. https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=United_States&oldid=591913053" because it seems kind of unnecessary to get a consensus for grammar. Lord Laitinen

First of all, to which of the sections of WP:NOTMYSPACE are you alluding? I have been allowed to keep this page in its present form ever since RHaworth temporarily blocked me from using it many months ago, in order to test my integrity to Wikipedia, which I proved with about seven dozen edits. After that, I was allowed to edit and keep the page. If this is not referring to the "similar to article or biography" aspect, and it is about the recent upload of the LLAVA logo, then you can ask that it be deleted, if you wish. It is not so important to me that I would fight to keep it; there is another somewhat similar image which I used for the same purpose before it, anyway. Finally, if this has to do with images of myself or family members, I made a successful argument about that in the past, as well, pointing out that many Wikipedia editors have similar pictures on their user pages uploaded for that purpose only. However, I have used photographs of myself and family in fashion articles, as well, so many of my personal images uploaded have more than just that one purpose. Please leave a reply on my talk page. Lord Laitinen (talk) 23:53, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, your photo album, (your user-page gallery) which has grown considerably, family, pets, trucks and bikes are hardly encyclopedic, have you considered moving them to Commons ? Mlpearc (open channel) 00:13, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't know if I would agree that they are "hardly encyclopedic". Many, if not all of my images of trucks and bikes were placed in corresponding articles. If you truly think that they would be more helpful on Commons than here/here alone on Wikipedia, then I will certainly considered transferring them to Commons in the near future. Thanks for your concern. Lord Laitinen (talk) 00:17, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Commons would be a better place for all of your free-use personal images, the trucks (which occupy another gallery on in an article) will still be availible for that article. Per Wikipedia is not a blog, Web hosting service, social networking service, or memorial site, unenclyopidic personal images can be deleted. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 00:30, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • I agree with you on this point, and since all or most of the images in my user page gallery are in other articles on Wikipedia, I will transfer most or all of those images to a similar gallery on my Commons user page. Thanks for pointing this out, and if you ever have any advice or constructive criticisms, I will be glad to hear them. Lord Laitinen (talk) 01:47, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Lord Laitinen: Great I'd hate to have to F10 George or Lord Laitinen's Sister. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 04:06, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • @Lord Laitinen: I strongly disagree with the suggestion that you should put your images on Commons. Commons is no more a free host than Wikipedia is. Please do the proper thing and put your photos on your own website - at PicasaWeb for example. Don't you find it an attractive idea - a place where no-one can delete your stuff? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:02 pm, Today (UTC−8)

Thank you RHaworth, great idea. Mlpearc (open channel) 20:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

@RHaworth:, I agree. Personal images do not belong on Commons, nor on Wikipedia, I knew it was only a matter of time before this would happen; I just kept them as long as they went unnoticed. I will only consider returning the images if and when I can find an article into which they could placed to improve it. However, the non-personal images that did not have use on Wikipedia could have use on Commons, and since they have been uploaded and placed in my gallery there, they have not yet been deleted. Have a nice day, and if I don't speak to you again beforehand, have a Happy St. Patrick's Day and Easter! Lord Laitinen (talk) 23:01, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest

Thanks for your suggestions. Someone other than myself added three reviews of books I wrote. However, I should point out that one of your colleagues challenged my notabiltiy because the article contained no such reviews. This conflicting advice can be bewildering. I have been named one of the top 300 professors in the US by the Princeton Review. I have written a lengthy article on Bismarck, chancellor of Germany 1871-1890, for the DAMALS a German (!) magazine with a quarterly circulation of 30.000. I was chosen over 100 other historians. None of this appears, or should, in the article. But surely it speaks against deleting it. Please let me know if the latest effort address your concerns. I don't have you email

Intstruments infobox thing

Hey, thanks for helping clean up some infoboxes for musical artists regarding their instruments. For Slash, perfect. However, for Joe Perry, I think we should consider it being "Guitar, vocals" because he has sung lead vocals on half a dozen Aerosmith songs, backing vocals on the majority of all Aerosmith songs, and Lead vocals on two of his own albums. So I think that qualifies him. Talk box, bass, banjo, obviously not so much. What do you think? — DLManiac (talk) 04:02, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@DLManiac: I agree, all I'm concerned about is say, John Paul Jones who can probably play anything but, we don't need to list in the infobox a 100 item list like recorder, koto, lap steel guitars, mandolin, autoharp, violin, ukulele, sitar, cello, continuum, spoons and moonshine jug. This should be worked into prose. Mlpearc (open channel) 17:32, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

All of my edits are reverted - why?

They are respectful, polite, properly written, proven by a credible source such as a physician doing a DNA or a lawyer filing a case and no matter what I post it gets turned down. Did I make enemies here? What's going on?

Jerry Lewis has a biological daughter named Suzan Lewis and she has been proven to be Jerry Lewis' daughter by a positive DNA result. Yet wikipedia keeps stating that she doesn't exist. This type of thing hurts a person's feelings beyond measure. Is there a way we can correct this? Please help me find the proper way to do this because every single thing I post is rejected for one reason or another and it's material that's been proven.

What am I leaving out or doing incorrectly? Please teach me so that I may post properly.
