Suggest WikiProject Rugby union; please also see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Gray (rugby union); "first class game"?

edit

Hi FinzUp19 and thank you for contributions!

First off, please have a look WikiProject Rugby union, a "WikiProject" you may be interested in participating in.

Could you possibly have a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Gray (rugby union)? This goes some way to explain why an article for this player has not met the criteria for a Wikipedia article.

I see you've mentioned "first class game" - could you possibly clarify what you meant by that? This Stuff.co.nz article suggests that it refers to the provincial unions, not the second tier competition

Please do let me know if I can help you out with this, or anything at all related to the English language Wikipedia.

Yes first class meaning provincial level and above this player has played in the second tier competition therefore is notable for a wikipedia page but for some odd reason when I create a page for this particular player it keeps being deleted when my other pages players of the same notability have been fine. I am very frustrated as to why people feel the need to delete a page that only helps improve wikipedia. FinzUp19 (talk) 10:08, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Jack Gray (rugby union)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jack Gray (rugby union) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Gray (rugby union). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Speedy deletion nomination of Jack Gray (rugby union)

edit

Hello, FinzUp19,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Miminity and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Jack Gray (rugby union), for deletion, because a consensus decision previously decided that it wasn't suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. If you wish to restore a page deleted via a deletion discussion, please use the deletion review process instead, rather than reposting the content of the page.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Miminity}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

@Miminity: Hi there I am very frustrated as to why this particular page keeps getting flagged for deletion as it is well referenced and this person is notable as has played professional rugby union at national provincial level. I have created many other pages of the same notability and these have had no issues so I would love an explanation as to why this is. FinzUp19 (talk) 10:27, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can contest the nomination, I just base my speedy deletion to the discussion here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Gray (rugby union) Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 11:25, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Finz, I appreciate your work on the article and your addition of references, but none of those references say anything other than that he was on a team. The person lacks notability to have his own article. It would make sense for his name to appear on a list of players on the article for the team(s) of which he's been a member, though. - Brian Kendig (talk) 02:00, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion about Hunter Leppien

edit

Hello FinzUp19, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Hunter Leppien, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hunter Leppien (2nd nomination).

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|StewdioMACK}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

@StewdioMACK: Hi there could you please further explain as to what you see as the issue with this page and why you have flagged it for deletion. FinzUp19 (talk) 10:30, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@FinzUp19: Hi, I flagged it for deletion because I didn't feel that it meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines for sportspeople, which can be found at WP:SPORTCRIT. I couldn't find enough reliable, secondary coverage in news sources to support the player deserving their own Wikipedia page. Playing at a certain level of cricket doesn't make them automatically notable for inclusion, unfortunately. The article currently only cites one team list that doesn't demonstrate how the player meets SPORTSCRIT. If there is enough coverage that you know of to make him notable, please feel free to post links to the Articles for deletion thread, and you may be able to make your case to the community and prevent the article from being deleted.
