Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. MER-C 09:02, 9 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Dear Wiki, I am a Professor of cinema at Asian School of Media Studies in India. My website www.filmkailm.com was started as a point of course reference for the students of my college and other film schools. This was done after intense research at National Film Archive of India, Pune where I have spent more than one year in the last five years just to study and research old texts to which not many of regular readers have an access. I can assure you of my bonafide intention in spreading the knowledge of cinema as I have come to accumulate and not publicizing my site. But since all the material has been written and formatted to the site, it makes no sense in duplicating the effort. If you read some of the material I have contributed, you will notice that a lot of the information regarding those particular subjects is absolutely new and not available on your site. I sincerely apologize for using the name of the site which I did just today (as I observed some others using as well) and shall remove it immediately if you deem fit to unblock me. I am new to this and in desperate need of your guidance. I promise to abide by the rules of Wikipedia which I had no intention of violating in the first place.

Decline reason:

I would point out that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a collection of links. Also, that you should not 'spam' your own site, no matter how good it is. And again, that you should not use the name of your site as a user name. If you get unblocked, it will only be for a name change and very probably on condition that you do not reference or link your site. If you wish to contribute to the encyclopaedia in the way of text, it will be appreciated so long as it is referenced to reliable independent sources, and I'm afraid your site would not count as independent for our purposes. If you wish to be unblocked for this, please use the 'spamun' template from the big sandy coloured box and suggest a new name. Another admin will then review the situation. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

To clarify, do you agree that you won't add links from any article to filmkailm.com? Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:21, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I was travelling so could not answer earlier. I shall not post any more external links on wikipedia if you don't want me to. Can they be posted in references if I were to make additions to the main body of the article in the encyclopedia ??

You won't be allowed to add any references to filmkailm.com, but you would be allowed to add references to legitimate sites. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:22, 15 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dear admin, May I be allowed to pose a question ? www.upperstall.com is also an Indian reference site just like mine featuring profiles, classics et all. How come they are allowed to post external links and I am not ? Did they have to undergo some screening in order to get this privilege? If so, please let me know so I can initiate the same. Thanks.

The issue isn't the site itself. The issue is that nobody is allowed to add links to their own sites, since it's considered self-promotion. Jackmcbarn (talk) 14:55, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

A hint about Talkback

edit

Talkback is used when you are letting another user know there's a message for him/her but not on their talk page. You don't use it on your own talk page, only on someone else's. For instance, you could leave a Talkback on my page to say you've left me a message here. Or if you leave a message for Jackmcbarn on his page, and you think I should see it too, you could put a Talkback on my page telling me to look at Jackmcbarn's page.
