Speedy deletion nomination of Matt fiddes
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Matt fiddes, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ArglebargleIV (talk) 15:55, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
What is wrong with the page I have created?
editThis help request has been answered. If you need more help or have additional questions, please replace the code {{Help me-helped}} on this page with {{Help me}}, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their own user talk page. |
I am so sorry but I do not understand what I have done wrong here. Could you please help me? Then I can make the changes. Evian987 (talk) 16:07, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- Non-admins are not able to view deleted pages; any help you get at this stage will likely need to come from an admin, so please read through the links already provided and consider changing your request template to {{admin help}} or post at Wikipedia:Deletion review. editWelcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Matt fiddes with this edit. When removing content, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the content has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Hi, thank you for letting me know. After reading through the criteria for a speedy deletion I have made what I think are the necessary alterations. Could you please confirm this asap so the page at the top can be cleared. Thank you. Evian987 (talk) 16:38, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not for promotion
editI have deleted it. The whole article was promotional in tone, clearly written with the aim of boosting the subject, name-dropping to emphasise his celebrity friends, and promote his brand. Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind, and is extremely resistant to attempts to use it in that way.
"a fun and enjoyable programme... With exceptional instructors, this programme has been incredibly successful... A unique feature of this course... a relaxed, female only environment... one of the leading suppliers of high standard/low cost accommodation..." - that is an advertisement, not an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. See WP:PEACOCK about promotional language. An encyclopedia article should be neutral in tone, no opinions or glowing adjectives, just facts referenced to reliable sources.
References are no use unless they actually confirm the claims made: I have not checked many but, for example:
- The statement "Jackson would come to Fiddes’ martial arts session in disguise and he would incorporate bits and pieces into his future dance routines" is referenced to a piece about Chinese schools using Jackson dance moves instead of Tai Chi - no mention of Fiddes or of Jackson putting martial arts moves into his routine.
- the article says "For the past 15 years, Matt has had a strong friendship with Uri Geller... Fiddes considers Geller not simply as a friend and close adviser, but also as a second father." The references supplied for that statement were Geller's website, which as far as I can see does not mention Fiddes, and MFTR which (a) says only "Uri Geller and Matt Fiddes have been close friends for over 8 years", not 15, and (b) as Fiddes' own site cannot be regarded as a reliable source for this claim. If you are going to make capital out of a relationship with Geller, you need something from Geller, or at least independent of Fiddes, as a source.
Fiddes is probably notable enough for an article, but it needs to be written in a much more neutral way, with less name-dropping, and giving only facts that can be confirmed from reliable sources. His own website and ones associated with him need to be used with care - important claims need independent confirmation.
If you like, I can "userfy" the article - move it into your user space for you to work on - but you might do better to start from a clean sheet. See Help:Userspace draft for how to make one.
JohnCD (talk) 16:56, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for this and all your advice. I will re-start and write it in a much more neutral way. Evian987 (talk) 16:16, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Matt at Headley Court.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Matt at Headley Court.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:17, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Referenced information in biography articles
editHello. I've reverted two of your edits to Matt Fiddes, for opposite reasons. In this edit, you added potentially controversial information about two living persons without a reference. Please note that in WP:Biographies of living persons it's extremely important to add only information that's WP:Verifiable from WP:Reliable sources, and I can't find any sources online to support who he's dating at the moment. Then in this edit, you removed referenced content, with your edit summary saying only "Removed legal action - incorrect information". We need to know what's incorrect about it before you remove it: have you got references showing that those newspapers got it wrong? If not, then please don't remove it. Thanks, Scopecreep (talk) 18:56, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
