Twenty One Pilots WikiProject?

edit

Hey! Seeing as you like Twenty One Pilots like me, I thought it could be a good idea to create a WikiProject to help improve all of the articles (as long as there are enough people that could be on board); it could be really useful. I'm still having a look to see if there are other Wikipedians that could join as well. Do you think it would be a good idea? Have a great weekend. MikeOwen discuss 22:41, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a good idea, I'm on board for it. And same to you. EthanRossie2000 discuss 8:28, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
Nice to know you're on board! I've read a bit more on setting up WikiProjects, so, as there are about 30 odd articles on Twenty One Pilots rather than 100+, I think it might be better to set up a task force under maybe Wikipedia:WikiProject Alternative music. Is that okay, do you think? MikeOwen discuss 15:33, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sounds fine to me. EthanRossie2000 discuss 10:52, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Periods in image captions

edit

Periods are required at the end of complete sentences, even in image captions. They can be omitted when the caption isn't a complete sentence, like if the caption read "Gameplay screenshot", for example. TarkusABtalk 10:46, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I apologize, I'll try and fix the edits I've made where I've removed periods, won't happen again. EthanRossie2000 discuss 10:50, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I get you're trying but most of the time the decision you make to add/remove a period is incorrect. It's almost always right in the first place. Might I recommend stop making such edits? TarkusABtalk 12:38, 21 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Trench (album) to be a Good Article

edit

EthanRossie2000, I wanted to be sure you were nominating Trench (album) to be a good article in your own name and that you planned to do any necessary work updating the article to meet the GA criteria when the review begins. What I found puzzling was that you put "Coda16" in as the nominator rather than yourself—there is no editor by that name on Wikipedia.

The GA nominee template has already been fixed so that you are listed as the nominee, and Albums is given as the subtopic (you hadn't supplied one). If you are nominating this yourself, then we're all set. If not, let me know, and I'll arrange to fix things as appropriate. Thanks for your interest in Good Article nominations! BlueMoonset (talk) 20:04, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that. For some reason Wikipedia always uses my nickname "Coda16" instead of my real username, such as when I use the four tildes to automatically set the time of a reply. I'm not sure why it does it, but I haven't been able to fix it. Anyways to answer your question, yes, I am Coda16. And thank you for fixing the GA nominee template! EthanRossie2000 discuss 20:11, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's probably some setting in the bowels of your Preferences (there should be a Preferences link at the top of the page when you're logged in—on my screen, it's after Talk and Sandbox); there are many pages available there). Best of luck in finding and fixing it. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:33, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

While I appreciate your helpfulness in editing, I have reverted one of your changes to the article Twenty One Pilots. While the logo you uploaded is of a higher resolution, the grey-ish background is, in my opinion at least, unsightly. I will inform you though that my original logo upload was a higher resolution. A bot came along a resized it as was too large (see here). That was likely to happen to you as well. The image I got was directly from the press page, of Twenty One Pilots, so it is indeed very official. I am unsure of where you got yours, but I don't believe the grey background is an integral part of the logo. It looks better on black, as does the typeface logo, which I also got from the same press page. Please do not re-add your logo. I appreciate the help, but mine is closer to the official and is more visually appealing. Thank you.

Ø

edit

How can you be so sure that the ø signs are slashes through the Os and not one of the other ø symbols? That is very difficult, if not impossible, to tell from an unidentified font. At least one Wikipedia user thought it were empty set symbols, since this is what the text mentioned before my first edit. And at least one Wikipedia user (me) asked for a citation for your change. Could you please stick to the conventions of Wikipedia? Those dictate that you should not remove a request for a citation without concensus. And if you are so sure that it are slashes trough the Os, wouldn't it be more useful for the reader to link to the appropriate article for this symbol, Ø, than the trivial link to O? Gollem (talk) 06:00, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm not linking the O to the Ø article because it is an official letter for use in a different language, the reason I continue to keep reverting your edits is because there is no source for what the "Ø" is, due to it simply being a design characteristic, nothing special (the empty set part was probably added because empty sets resemble it the most). Unless you can go and find some source where Joseph or Dun say that it isn't just a design characteristic, and believe me, I've already checked. EthanRossie2000 discuss 7:31, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for this constructive reaction. If you state that "there is no source" then it is better not to use the phrase "slashes through the Os" since this seems to imply Ø because the article on this character mentions "slashed o" as a synonym.

The only way I can find to try to draw a conclusion on the used symbol in the name is that at the bottom of the homepage www.twentyonepilots.com it says "© 2018 COPYRIGHT FBR AND TØP". When I copy that "Ø" in the search engine www.wolframalpha.com it answers that this is the unicode character 216 which is the same character as the Wikipedia article Ø. What do you think? Does this count as evidence? I am in doubt on this.

However, it does prove that it is not just a design decoration, as they use a symbol instead of a regular O in typed text. Gollem (talk) 19:08, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Ø is sometimed used in English texts too,[1] so it could be this symbol. However, as you pointed out, it is hard to find really convincing proof that this symbol is the intended one. I suggest that we therefore link to the article on all similar looking symbols Ø (disambiguation). Gollem (talk) 17:00, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced/improperly sourced genres

I was hoping you would have moved on from this type of disruptive behavior, but it seems unfortunately not. It has been a while since your last warning for this so I thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt by asking you personally to refrain as opposed to a template message. Please stop with the unsourced or improperly sourced genres. It would be a shame if you lost your editing privileges to something so easily avoidable as your other edits are generally constructive but I will take this to WP:ANI if it happens again. I think I did what you asked, but again I'm unsure, refs aren't my specialty. I apologize again for lack of responding. EthanRossie2000 06:25, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Regarding charts unresolved: a chart table caption is missing, NZ position is still not backed up or removed, remove publisher from refs when I mentioned it is ones like Variety where a publisher should not be listed, MOS:QWQ issues refers to speech marks being added to the title parameter. --K. Peake 06:33, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Everything else is done, but which refs are like Variety and should I simply remove the publisher and change the names of the refs, or?

Also, regarding QWQ, I am unsure what to do. EthanRossie2000 07:31, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Literally look at the review page, I have listed which refs need publisher removed. The QWQ issues are where double speech marks in titles need replacing with single speech marks; take Josh Dun Mashes Up "Morph", The Whit Stripes in Epic Drum Solo for instance. --K. Peake 10:34, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Will you be covering these remaining issues today? --K. Peake 06:16, 7 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I could fix the ref layout and charts for you since you are confused with them, but can you remove any remaining unreliable source(s)??? --K. Peake 10:50, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Removing sources that cite chart positions

edit

Hi. In future, please don't remove sources from directly below chart positions unless they're verified by the column header citation. While editors may remove sources that prove a song is a single if the single has an article on it that talks about it being one, the same isn't done (nor should be done) for chart positions, which should be verified on each article they are placed on. Even still, WP:V states this—the claim needs to be sourced on each article it is placed on. Thanks. Ss112 14:35, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I apologize, I just didn't feel it was needed if the song had a dedicated article that already lists the chart positions. I'll be sure not to anymore. EthanRossie2000 20:33, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cricket stats

edit

Hello. I note that you updated the statistics in a cricketer's infobox before the source has been updated.

Please don't do that again - we need to wait for the source to be updated - and, in particular, do not update stats in the infobox during a match. This requires WP:ORIGINAL RESEARCH, which is a serious problem throughout Wikipedia. It tends to lead to errors, omissions, duplications and generally makes the statistics in the infobox even less reliable than they already are.

If you have a question about this please leave it here, on my talk page or on the talk page of the player you updated. Thank you. Blue Square Thing (talk) 14:37, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Because it's a redundant quote with no reason to be there at all. EthanRossie2000 18:37, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

As you can tell by my more recent edits I've already began editing with summaries much more often than I used to, because I was already asked previously. But yes, I will continue to. EthanRossie2000 08:02, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

A few more things

edit

Hi EthanRossie2000, thank you for taking on board my advice about maintenance templates and edit summaries. Due to the sheer number of your edits (a complement to you) there are a few more things I think could help. First of all MOS:ENGVAR: "English Wikipedia prefers no national variety of English over any other." I notice that you sometimes change the phrasing of certain words to fit your preferences, usually it's better to just retain the existing variety used on the page. The other one is WP:REDLINKS: "Do not remove red links unless you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on that subject." Redlinks point out to editors which articles are in need of creation. Anyway, thanks for being resilient to the constructive criticism. Happy editing Pabsoluterince (talk) 01:47, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi EthanRossie2000,

Wikimania 2022 is almost here (11-14 August 2022) and will be held entirely online this year with the exception of a number of local mini-Wikimania's for local community members. I just wanted to let you know that two local Wikimania mini-events will be happening in South Africa; one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. Participants will be able to attend both the international event from these local events. If you are interested, available and in the area at the time we would be delighted to have you join us. For more information please checkout the South Africa mini-event page here. Discott (talk) 11:02, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

BLP violation

edit

Hi; I'm sorry but this edit you made at Andrew Tate is a pretty clear-cut WP:BLP violation. Regardless of who the person is, we can't say someone is guilty of a crime (and especially not such an odious one) when there hasn't even been a trial yet. TOP discography/Alt airplay

edit

Hi EthanRossie2000; just wanted to drop a quick note that I've undone your edit to Twenty One Pilots discography because Billboard generally takes precedence over Mediabase for US charts. For instance, the US alternative chart used in the singles table is Alternative Airplay, which is a Billboard chart; according to Billboard, "Overcompensate" has peaked at #2 so far. Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Political and social agenda.

Whats up with edit summaries such as "Israel is committing genocide. This is a fact, there is no "alleged" here", "Free Palestine. Israel is the enemy. They're committing genocide." and changing the Strickland article to "Homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic comments", you've been on Wiki long enough I shouldn't have to explain to you this isnt a platform to extol your political and social agenda.
