Hello, and thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia! However, you should know that it is not a good idea to remove citations or information sourced through citations simply because a link to a source is not working, as you did to Tyson Fury. Dead links should not be deleted. Instead, please repair or replace the link, if possible, and ensure properly sourced information is retained. Often, a live substitute link can be found. Links not used as references, notes or citations are not as important, such as those listed in the "External links" or "Further reading" sections, but bad links in those sections should also be fixed if possible. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 19:02, 6 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okay, thank you for your advice.--EsotericJoe (talk) 19:18, 6 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Nicholas Winton does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Racial antisemitism, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Eternal Jew (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your recent bold edit has been reverted. Per the bold, revert, discuss cycle, after a bold edit is reverted, the status quo should remain while a discussion is started instead of edit-warring, and it should be resolved before reinstating the edit, after a needed consensus is formed to keep it. In addition to the reason I give, if we go by your version, he goes down to 7th position alphabetically. Clarityfiend (talk) 05:34, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Clarityfiend: Why does he have to be 7th alphabetically? Very few of the people on the list are ordered alphabetically. Also, I think most people are familiar with the surnames of very famous people who are known simply by their first names.--EsotericJoe (talk) 06:07, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
What are you talking about? They're all in alphabetical order by last name, which is SOP. Hmmm ... Prince Udaya Priyantha may or may not be in the proper order; I'm not familiar with Sri Lankan naming. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:14, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Caleb Maupin

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Caleb Maupin, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.   Hi EsotericJoe! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you.

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to James Connolly, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. Categories must also be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Thank you. FDW777 (talk) 09:45, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@FDW777: Well, considering Connolly is listed on the Marxist bibliography and the Marxist sidebar is included in his article, I don’t really see the issue.--EsotericJoe (talk) 10:33, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Categories must also be supported by the article's verifiable content FDW777 (talk) 10:36, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
So despite the two facts I’ve just mentioned, are you seriously telling me that he was not an Irish Marxist? You can’t be serious!--EsotericJoe (talk) 10:38, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't believe I said anything of the kind. FDW777 (talk) 10:41, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
What exactly is your problem then?--EsotericJoe (talk) 12:27, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I refer you to my original message at 09:45, and the truncated version of it specifically detailing the problem at 10:36. FDW777 (talk) 13:47, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@FDW777: Well, I cant help but think that you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. Why do you object to the category being included in the article? I’ve given you two reasons why I think the category should be included.--EsotericJoe (talk) 09:59, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Because it wasn't supported by the article's verifiable content. Which word(s) from the sentence don't you understand? FDW777 (talk) 12:39, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
For similar reasons information doesn't go in the lead unless it's covered in the rest of the article. FDW777 (talk) 12:44, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@FDW777: We can discuss it on the James Connolly’s talk page because quite frankly this is just getting ridiculous.--EsotericJoe (talk) 12:50, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
