In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. L^p and ℓ^p

this is the equation from the lp space article itself:

$\ \|x\|_{p}=\left(|x_{1}|^{p}+|x_{2}|^{p}+\cdots +|x_{n}|^{p}\right)^{1/p}$

The definition of ℓ^p says that

$|x_{1}|^{p}+|x_{2}|^{p}+|x_{3}|^{p}+\cdots <\infty .\,$

You can't leave out the part that says "< ∞". And if it only goes up to n terms rather than going on forever, then the part about "< ∞" is ALWAYS true, so there's no point in having such a definition. But what was asked about was L^p, not ℓ^p. So we're looking at

$\int _{\mathbb {R} }\left|f(x)\right|^{p}\,dx<\infty ,$

Proposed deletion of Inverse metal
