Table Tennis WikiProject
edit- Dear Edin, I'm very happy to have you on board. Feel free to work on all table tennis pages. Actually, I'm not very active on wikipedia in the last period. However, I have in mind to do some work on the "List of table tennis players" page, specifically, I'm writing a software to automatically update that page. Also it is very good that you are native English, as an example I guess main Table Tennis page may require your review ;) See you around, alessio
- Thanks Alessio, yes I will try to work my way through as many as I can. I want to start on the tournament/competition pages, then I will have a look at some of the others. I've also been trying to ensure that there are more links (within guidelines) to the pages I've worked on, and that all relevant categories have been added, in order to try to increase traffic to the table tennis pages. Hopefully this will eventually have the effect of getting more people back on board for the WikiProject :) Edin75 (talk) 10:29, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

- @Rosguill: Hi Rosguill. Thanks for your message. I was under that impression too, but it was still showing as a red link with the fully capitalised version on another page that I was working on, so I decided to make a redirect. My preference was to use the fully capitalised version, as that's how the name is written on the vast majority of relevant websites. Edin75 (talk) 21:27, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

About the running race
editIf my writing in 2021 in sports misled you to believe that the Gansu ultramarathon disaster was an insignificant domestic sporting event, may be I should indicate that this "local" disaster attracted sustained international attention? The AP, AFP, Reuters, WSJ, NYTimes, BBC, The Guardian, The Australian etc to produce a combined >100 articles on it. -- love.wh 14:54, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Apologies if you misunderstood my reasoning for removing the entry from the calendar. The only reason for removing it is that the calendar has only ever been used to list sports results, and that's been the case in all of the years that I've been contributing to the "Year in sports" articles. I wasn't questioning the importance of the event at all. As someone who keeps up to date with world news, I had read about this disaster, and was fully aware of it before you posted. Apologies if I didn't explain myself very well when I initially removed the calendar entry. Edin75 (talk) 15:19, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- The name of Year in sports attract readers interested in finding out "important incidents happened in the sports world in Year X", which is a valid encyclopedic content. Merely listing the results of competitions fail to cover what its title suggest. For instance, readers would expect to find out the following:
- a. (1953 in sports) In mountaineering, the 1953 British Mount Everest expedition marked the first successful ascent of Mount Everest.
- b. (2012 in sports) In cycling, the World Anti-Doping Code issued a lifetime ban on Lance Armstrong from all sports following their decision on his doping cases.
- c. (2005 in sports) In boxing, Leavander Johnson, the reigning IBF Lightweight Champion, was knockouted by Jesús Chávez and died in the following days.
- d. (2021 in sports) In weightlifting, Laurel Hubbard became the first transgender athlete to compete at an Olympic Games.
- e. (2015 in sports) In football, following a joint investigation by the FBI and the IRS into the 2015 FIFA corruption case, dozens of FIFA executives were arrested in the United States and indicted for racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.
- f. (2021 in sports) In running, the Gansu ultramarathon disaster became the most fatal marathon ever with 21 deaths.
- g. (2017 in sports) In gymnastics, Larry Nassar, a USA Gymnastics physician and the suspect of the largest sexual abuse scandal in sports history, pleaded guilty to sexual assault against multiple gymnasts.
- The above are clearly important incidents happened in the sports world, perhaps they could be placed under the section "Major sports news" in Year in sports. However, if they were to be excluded on the grounds that they are not "results of competitions" as sanctioned by a certain consensus, could you point me to that consensus page so that I could understand more on their reasoning? -- love.wh 16:17, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Merely listing the results of competitions fail to cover what its title suggest. For instance, readers would expect to find out the following:
- Thanks for your very thorough message! To be honest, the "Year in sports" articles started being created long before I joined Wikipedia and started editing, and the calendar section has always just been a list of notable results, which has gradually expanded over the years. I actually use it primarily as a resource, and my contribution to the article really only amounts to adding occasional events and results to the calendar. The question of what should be included in the calendar has been raised in the talk pages a few times over the years, but following precedents that were set before I started getting involved in editing the page, keeping it as it is seemed to be the preferred option.
- Personally speaking, I'm actually in complete agreement with you. I do think that some kind of timeline approach, with different sections featuring notable sports-related news stories as well as high-profile competition results would make for a more interesting and appealing article. At the moment, the article is too long and suffers from a lack of regular editors. I've considered suggesting changes in the past, and I think an article revamp would be a good thing, but unfortunately the time I have available to edit Wikipedia is often very limited by work and other commitments, and I just don't have the time to get involved in a project like that at the moment. If you would like to add a "Major sports news" timeline section to the article, I would completely support that, and perhaps some different layouts or formats could be considered for the 2022 in sports article. Thanks again for your feedback and suggestions, and I hope you have a lovely weekend! Edin75 (talk) 20:54, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for giving me your personal take on the big picture of the situation of Year in sports. I took a leap of faith to make some changes on 2021 in sports, with a bit of your nudge. It seems it has survived a few days without anyone challenging the existence of "records", "major news" and "competition by months". Hopefully that will make the article more of a interesting read. -- love.wh 02:56, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

- Hi. Firstly, you should sign posts that you put on other people’s talk pages (I’ve now added your signature for you). Unfortunately, I don’t have time to create lots of articles for previous editions of this event at the moment. Also, you seem to have incorrectly edited the names of a lot of previously created articles, without providing references. These will all need to be changed back to how they were before. Hosts in 2021 in sports
editHi, so are the flags in 2021 in sports the hosts or where the matches are taking place? Thanks, Mwiqdoh (talk) 00:05, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hi. The column heading in the table is Venue/Event, so previously it has always been the flags of the nations where the event is actually taking place. Obviously that will also be the official host nation in almost every case, but the T20 World Cup was relocated from India to UAE/Oman in exceptional circumstances. Also note that sometimes the UK flag is used and sometimes the flags of the four separate UK nations are used. This is usually determined by what flag the teams/athletes are competing under at the event in question. In some sports it’s Great Britain and in others it’s the four nations separately. Edin75 (talk) 00:23, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you for the explanation. Mwiqdoh (talk) 00:38, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

editOlympic Sports Project
editHello Edin!
I have seen you do lots of edits about Olympic sports here on Wiki. I am searching for a couple of people who would like to contribute on an external international website about Olympic sports, posting results of Olympic Sports on a regular basis. You could choose the sport(s) you want to contribute in and take care of that section. The aim of the website is to become the best source for sports results and to do that we need some more contributers across all sports.
No money involved, so just for passion, and of course no time obligations needed, just in your free time. Are you in? :)
Thank you in advance! RoadToTokyo2020 (talk) 07:02, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi! This sounds like an interesting project, and thanks very much for considering me as a contributor, but with other commitments I'm struggling to find time to contribute to Wikipedia at the moment, so I'm not sure how much time I'd be able to devote to another site! Have you already got the other site up and running? Edin75 (talk) 17:06, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Edin, sorry for the (very late!) answer. The website is up and running since some time, and you maybe you already know it, but just as a discussion website right now. I am going to launch the results collection soon. Is that something you are interested to be part of? I will contact you through your email if you are. Thank you and happy 2020! - Hello Edin! I hope you are doing great! Now that the Winter Olympic Games are over, I would like to renovate the results section of the website. I know you do not have lots of free time, but it would be really nice to have you on board. - Hi. Yes, I'm open to any of those changes. I was actually considering making a separate article for the World Youth Championships, but didn't have time, which is why I just separated the list into two separate tables for now. Edin75 (talk) 10:41, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- Considering the World Youth Championships is the successor of the WJTTC. I think moving the page would be reasonable and time-saving. If you agree on the suggestions, I'll move the pages abovementioned and update related pages this weekend. Thanks for your response. LLTT (talk) 14:19, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- It is the successor to the WJC, but I can't find any decent sources from ITTF which confirm that it was a renaming and direct continuation of the previous championship. I'm happy for the articles to be moved though. Edin75 (talk) 17:27, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
