Speedy deletion nomination of Underwater Boys

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Underwater Boys requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Replaceable fair use File:Pale waves photo 2.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Pale waves photo 2.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. hinnk (talk) 18:10, 12 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. You must not copy and paste text from sources you find on the web into articles as you did in the article Me and Michael. I have removed the violation, but the material you copied is copyright and you should instead write such information in your own words. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:27, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Pale waves nme awards.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Pale waves nme awards.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:54, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source/license for File:PWAwardWin.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:PWAwardWin.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 09:05, 23 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:PWAwardWin.png

edit

A tag has been placed on File:PWAwardWin.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. hinnk (talk) 21:37, 3 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

On 1 July 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Four Out of Five, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Arctic Monkeys song "Four Out of Five" jokes about critics who rarely give perfect scores in their reviews? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Four Out of Five. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Four Out of Five), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:17, 25 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Smashing Pumpkins album

edit

Hey there, saw you created Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts). Looks like the band announced the album title not too long after (article on it here), so I made a redirect for it (at Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.)...do you think there's enough content for it yet? Ss112 06:34, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey Ss112, I'll look into what's out there and start building an article in my sandbox, we have a tracklist and in my research for the Silvery Sometimes article there was quite a bit out there about the recording and themes etc. Thanks for the heads up EL Foz87 (talk) 06:54, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's alright, there's no need for it anymore—the user Joshuakodrat created a pretty poor stub in the wrong place, which was moved over the top of the redirect I made. It's pretty lacking on content, but I suppose that qualifies as an article now... Ss112 19:30, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
I just had a look and wow... it's bad! EL Foz87 (talk) 20:19, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey. I see you changed gold to platinum here and was wondering where you got that info from as the current source just gives a 404 page. The reason I ask is because I reverted someone before you doing the same thing due to them not supplying a source and with your edit I'm questioning my reversion of their edit. Also they have made similar incremental changes to other discographys and I want to be able to verify said edits. Robvanvee 07:51, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Pale Waves

edit

Hey EL Foz87! I just now saw that you created/worked on a lot of the Pale Waves pages. I dunno if you're still interested in PW, but I've recently started to work on several articles that you created (namely, "Television Romance" and My Mind Makes Noises), trying to get them up to GA. A few months ago, I promoted Who Am I? to GA, too! Anyway, just wanted to reach out. I dig the band, but don't come across many fans 'in the wild,' so to speak, so I thought I'd say hi.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 17:48, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, sorry for the major delay in reply, I genuinely have only just seen this. I am very interested in Pale Waves, I love their work which inspired me to pur together a lot of the Original content within the articles. I don't edit to much these days since the birth of my children, time is the enemy! I've checked out some of your work on the article and new articles, great work! Yeah I don't see many fans out in the wild either. They're a band I feel should be much bigger than they are, but at the same time I'm glad it's kind of a cult following instead of being too mainstream.

Anyway I'd love to do some future work on the page at some point, so I'm happy there's someone out there that shares the enthusiasm. EL Foz87 (talk) 10:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you. Yeah, let me know if you'd ever like to collab or something. I'm working on getting their new album up to "good article" status... one of these days, haha.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 19:36, 19 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hey, hey, I got a quick Pale Waves question for ya! I noticed that according to the UK Charts, "New Year's Eve" peaked at number 3 on the physical and vinyl sales charts. However, was a vinyl for NYE ever released on its own? I have a sneaking suspicion that this chart entry is for a mislabeled version of "All the Things I Never Said". Do you have any thoughts?--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 13:44, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes you would be correct in that. For some reason Official Charts the week after All the Things I Never Said was released decided to alter it and label it a New Entry and change the name. If you look at the week prior (23 March 2018 - 29 March 2018) where ATTINS charted and the week "New Year's Eve" charted (30 March 2018 - 05 April 2018) ATTINS dissappears from the chart. The only information I have on that is that the EP was originally set to be called New Year's Eve and that the person inputting the data for the chart build that week was going off of an old press release. Simple mistake but one that was never rectified. Now if you look any time it re-enters the physical/vinyl charts the mistake has carried over. § EL Foz87 (talk) 05:26, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's probably the case with the Scottish entry, too, right[1]? Bummer, as there is no way to 'prove' it, other than reach out to Dirty Hit or OC (and I've tried both to no avail, haha).--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 13:58, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, there is no Catalogue Number to see here what it is. I think its probably safe to assume that's the EP in the Scottish Charts but then there's no way of being 100 percent certain. I'm surprised the band has never charter on the UK Singles Chart or much anywhere else! They make such good music it's a shame it hasn't seemed to cross over into more mainstream success. EL Foz87 (talk) 12:39, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I just found info the other day that showed they were charting on Radiomonitor's UK airplay chart. But yeah, I think their lack of physical singles has hurt them in the charting department.
As for citations, I'm torn about not including the no. 3 citation for NYE, because I feel like it might be veering on original research, even though I'm also in agreement with you about it being an mistake.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 14:17, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
In case you were curious, here's how I have tried to handle the "New Year's Eve" situation. Since Wikipedia goes off sources, it seems wrong to ignore the OCC website wholesale, but I also think an explanatory note is warranted, even if it does veer a bit into OR-y territory.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 16:42, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
