Legacypac (talk) 09:12, 24 April 2018 (UTC)Short descriptions
editCould I ask you please to check the guidance on short descriptions, so as to be sure that you're applying them in a manner consistent with the Wikipedia community's expectations. In particular, where an article already has {{Short description|none}}
, it means that another editor has deliberately decided that there is no need for a short description there. You should not overwrite this unless you're certain that the previous editor was mistaken. Thanks. XAM2175 (T) 02:38, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @XAM2175 noted thanks Duncnbiscuit (talk) 08:34, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Please stop deleting most of the content of this article. You've done it twice already and been reverted, and need to stop. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 06:03, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- @SMcCandlish no I haven't deleted article content. I would only do that to a page I am very knowledgeable about. I think I just added a short description to the Tartan article are you sure you contacted the right editor.? Duncnbiscuit (talk) 07:48, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- This [1] is you nuking the entire "Scottish clan tartans" section aside from its intro. (In your defense, it was some other editor who did that the first time.) — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 07:51, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- @SMcCandlish this is really unsettling to discover that I could have accidentally nuked the page, given that I was making a small edit to an article description :-(.
- I will have to improve my checking at the preview stage in future. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 08:55, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Beagle's commander
editYou need to add a cite for each officer, use the exact dates, and link to their rank. Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:16, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Sturmvogel 66 the source does have exact dates for some but not all the changes of Command. I missed out one of the Commanders because I can only infer from the article and the source timing that they were briefly in command for the Sierra Leone trip, but could not be certain. Also, I will add links through to their ranks. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 00:26, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
editThinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 3
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Edington, Somerset, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Buttle. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
List of NZ Banks

Wikidata in infoboxes
editHi, I noticed that a while ago you made edits like these ones. They make the article worse, not better, pulling in unsourced items from Wikidata which contradict the article. In general, it is best not to use Wikidata entries in Wikipedia, or else at the very least only take those that are verifiably sourced. Fram (talk) 12:13, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Fram I'm from the school of Wikipedian's that are of the view that facts in Wikipedia articles should be sourced from Wikidata to allow for cross use across different articles, e.g. different language versions. Totally agree that the Wikidata properties need to be properly referenced just like anywhere else on Wikimedia. Where the faces a relatively static, such as the Peter Blake, sailor article I'm not that bothered about the Wikipedia article not being integrated properly with Wikidata but where facts are regularly updating such as school roll numbers, then Wikidata statements should definitely be used in infoboxs.
- I would note that your reversal of my edit lost information about events Peter Blake participated in. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 04:02, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, an infobox is a summary, not a detailed unchronological list of everything. Editors on enwiki decide what goes in and what doesnnt, not editors on Wikidata. Fram (talk) 08:36, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Fram ultimately, Wikipedians who edit Wikipedia, Wikidata, Creative Commons, and any other Wikimedia are all driving for the same goal. I use whatever medium to get the information out there. yes, Wikipedia articles should follow the Encyclopedia format, but that is supercharged by using wikidata and Commons as sources to make the articles more engaging, maintainable, and current. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 12:59, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Using Wikidata does none of these things though, and isn´t a source in any case. It is not engaging but offputting, and is lots harder to maintain and requires edutors to edit two completely different environments. Their policies are not aligned with ours, and the way you used it produces shoddy results. Fram (talk) 14:12, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Fram we'll have to draw a line under this conversation and agree to disagree. I don't regard the different wikimedia projects as an us and them scenario and used well together the different tools enhance the information available to everyone. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 14:21, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
