Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Re: deletion

edit

I have not deleted your article, I placed it on VfD.

This is not a case of going after any articles—in my browsing of Wikipedia if I see an article that I think should go through VfD I put it there (you can do the same). VfD does not result in automatic deletion, rather it is the place where decisions about what articles are, or are not, appropriate for inclusion in this encyclopedia is debated. If you feel that your article should not be deleted you should state why on its VfD page at Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Kardos_Empire/Kingdom.

I have never said anything about your flag. JeremyA 2 July 2005 20:47 (UTC)

Getting closer

edit

Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Your latest, Scarab Starfighter, is much better than the previous articles you created. However, don't be surprised if it gets deleted. Your article might have been great as part of a Star Wars website, but it's really not appropriate for an encyclopedia. I hope you don't get discouraged. Keep trying. You might find that editing existing articles works out better than creating new ones. Friday 7 July 2005 03:53 (UTC)

Main namespace

edit

Could you not create articles about yourself or redirects to your own user space in main namespace please? Many thanks. -- Francs2000 | Talk   23:16, 20 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

It would appear that instead of typing four tildes to sign your name (the easy way to do it like this: ~~~~) you wrote it instead and forgot to write "User:" in front of the first "Dudtz"; you then edited the resultant redlink and inserted a redirect to your own user page. The problem with these is that when Wikipedia content gets mirrored out to other sites on the Internet, the redirect to your user page goes with it whereas not all mirror sites take user pages. That's why cross namespace redirects are generally considered a bad thing. -- Francs2000 | Talk   23:24, 20 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Regarding you expessing your opinion

edit

Hi, a concerned user has pointed out your "no longer a country" comments. I'd like you to have a look at Wikipedia:Don't disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point.

If you want to expess this opinion, that's fine. I'm sure it's not intentional, but you come across as fairly abrasive and stubborn in regards to this opinion. People aren't going to want to listen to you, they're going to ignore you if they can. However, if you were to say your opinion more gently with facts--but, again, not in a way that could be seen as "shoving The Facts down your throat"--they would no doubt be more receptive to your view.

Please consider this. Thank you for your time. :) GarrettTalk 11:45, 22 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image:Lsword.jpg

edit

thanks for the image, Dudtz, but there are several issues with it

  • you need to to supply a copyright tag. if you took the picture, and are prepared to release it under the GFDL, use {{GFDL}}. Otherwise use {{fairuse}}.
  • the image is blurred, and should be cropped
  • the sword depicted seems to be a cheap replica, and is thus lacking notability; ideally we would want images of actual museum pieces, with age and Oakeshotte type, or failing that, museum replicas that can be approximately dated. See Image:langes_schwert_lm70573.jpg to see what I mean.

dab () 18:45, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

no, it doesn't have to be famous. But, since the term 'longsword' is ahistoric (as explained in the article), it has to be classifiable, i.e. at least dated (period, area). The proper classification of swords is by Oakeshott type, and I will suggest that all these scattered X-sword articles are merged into sword, and that proper subarticles about the Oakeshotte types are written instead. We will then need an image for each type. The type of your blade cannot be made out very well, I imagine you took the picture with your cellphone? dab () 16:49, 4 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

if you are a 'movie/anamation producer' I suppose I don't have to tell you about cropping and resolution, then. still, feel free to add it somewhere, I don't care too much, the articles are all in a mess anyway, and we'll need to rearrange them somehow. It would be very nice if you could contribute images of swords in museums, citing as much information about them as you can. In the case of this sword, at least cite its manufacturer. dab () 17:08, 4 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I would recomend a 3rd party oppinion on this matter In any case, are you a good sword fighter? I would like to see you try to defeat me in atlest a fencing match
*lol* — are you suggesting we add dueling to the list of procedures on Wikipedia:Dispute resolution? Well, I did some 4 years of HEMA, but that doesn't say much of course. You are welcome to call on me if you happen to come to Zurich, sometime. But I must add the cautionary remark, for the purposes of our present dispute, that it appears from the fechtbuchs that the best fencers did not always necessarily have superior graphical skills :o) dab () 16:55, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I uploaded my "Swiss Army Knife" because I ciriticized your image, to show what I meant, and to deliver instead of just nipicking. You know what, I will rotate and crop your image, and you put it up until we have something better, ok? dab () 17:39, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

here you are. (it is a cellphone cam, though, isn't it?). yeah, type xiiia, it seems. In fact, you could begin the Oakeshotte type XIII article, if you feel like it, you can use [2] as your source. What we are looking for are images like [3], with information like 'Germany, ca. 1520, replica by lutel.cz'. dab () 17:53, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Blip.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Blip.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know on the image description page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Otherwise, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Thanks so much. --Nv8200p 22:37, 30 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Russian Soldiers.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Russian Soldiers.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:07, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Blip.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Blip.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Denniss 00:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you are the creator/author of this image then please tag it with {{GFDL-self}}. If you are not the creator then provide a source. --Denniss 02:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The tag on it suffices,DO NOT REMOVE TAG WITHOUT PERMISSION. Dudtz 6/20/06 7:28 PM EST

The tag is not sufficient becauase the required source is missing. As said tag it as GFDL-self if you are the creator. And please sign your comments always with ~~~~ --Denniss 00:42, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is an acceptible tag. Dudtz 6/20/06 8:53 PM EST

WikiProject Star Wars newsletter

edit
Project updates
Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements!

WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas:

  • An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style)
  • Evolving lists into regular articles
  • Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections)
  • Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members
  • More to come

These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles.

Things to do
There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving!
Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives
Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.
Article evolution

As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort.

For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article.

Sounds confusing, eh? It won't, for examples will be popping up left and right in the near future!

Signed...

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Imperial Emblem.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Imperial Emblem.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:39, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Army National Guard

edit

Hi, Im currently working to create OrBat graphics for all the Army National Guard divisions (i.e. 34th Infantry Division (United States)#Current Structure or 35th Infantry Division (United States)#Current Structure, but as the National Guard is currently restructuring it is extremly difficult to find the necessary information. As of now I have done my best and created the following 5 graphics:

most likely there will be some errors - if you have the time and knowledge could you please have a look and check for errors and/or omissions? Thank you very much. Also I will work on the 36th, 38th and 40th Divisions over the week and do hope that you could have a look at the Army National Guard#Divisions list and check if they listed brigades are correct. Also if you have some information regarding the units of the brigades of the aforementioned 3 divisions, this would massively help me in my endeavor. thanks, --noclador (talk) 22:35, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:RUSSIA roll call and your input required

edit

Privet. You are receiving this message as you were listed on the membership list of WP:RUSSIA at Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia/Members. Recent times has seen minimal activity within WikiProject Russia, and there is an attempt to re-invigorate the project and have it become more organised into a fully-fledge functioning project, with the aim of increasing the quality of Russia-related articles across English wikipedia.

As we don't know which listed members are active within the project and Russia-related article, all listed members are receiving this message, and are requested to re-affirm their active status on Russia-related article by re-adding their username to Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia/Members by adding:

# {{User|YOURUSERNAME}}

to the membership list. You may also like to place {{User Russian Project}} on your userpage, as this will also place you in Category:WikiProject Russia members.

There is also an active proposal on the creation of a single WP:RUSSIA project. The proposal can be viewed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Russia#Proposal_for_overhaul_and_creation_of_a_single_WP:RUSSIA_project, and your comments and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Russia/Proposal.

We all look forward to your continued support of WP:RUSSIA and any comments you may have on the proposal. --Russavia Dialogue Stalk me 04:38, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:54, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:53, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
