Articles for creation

edit

Hello, I just created a new article using "articles for creation' section in wikipedia. I received a notice saying that there are thousands of articles waiting to be reviewed, and approval could take weeks or months. Is there any way to post my article in while waiting for approval?Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 19:22, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've never reviewed an AfC before but I have read before that they are backed up. I'll take a closer look at yours tonight but for now I see that it lacks references for most of the information in it. That will need to be addressed at some point before it goes live.
To answer your question though, AfC is a tool mostly used by new editors. More experienced editors don't go through that process and they just create the article straight-away. But as I said, yours is not ready to go live just yet so I wouldn't advise abandoning your draft at AfC. Dismas|(talk) 20:00, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at AfC Gary Wagner (disc jockey) was accepted

Gary Wagner (disc jockey), which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gary "The Wagman" Wagner, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages WROC, KACE and KCTY (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

small suggestion!

edit

Hey! I saw the gary wagner page come up on the recent edits board, it seems like you make small edits and then click save. It is normal practice, when working longer on an article, to do them all in one go! It is not wrong to do it that way, but it just attracts attention from the page patrollers ;) If you have any questions, or suggestions just click the talk button or go to the Wikipedia:Teahouse! :) have a nice day! Tomato 33 (talk) 21:15, 27 May 2014 (UTC) Thank you! This is very valuable advice. This is my first article and input from editors has been helpful, but also time consuming. I will adjust my practice. Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 21:22, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

A couple points

edit

Andrea, I've been keeping my edits to the Wagner article to a minimum to allow you the chance to get used to editing and learn more. So, there are a few things that I thought I'd point out that need work.

  1. External links should be kept out of the prose of the article unless being used for a reference. And then when used as a reference, put them in ref tags. So something like "Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize." shouldn't use external links in those ways. The first should be turned into a reference with ref tags at the end of the sentence and the second should either not be linked at all or should link to our article on the Nobel Prize. For more on this, see WP:EL.
  2. There should be an entry for this Wagner on the disambiguation page for all the other Gary Wagners. You can find that at Gary Wagner. For more on this, see WP:DISAMBIG
  3. Wagner's article should be added to applicable categories. You can see the tag for this at the bottom of the article.

That's all I've got for now. Dismas|(talk) 22:04, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dismas, Thank you for your direction. I want to get the Wagner article right because I am preparing to make significant edits to Eugene Daub. Daub is significantly more notable, and his page is much more important than the Wagner page. I am working in the sandbox right now, and will move it over in a week or two. In the meantime I will complete the edits on the Wagner page. I'm learning!! (it's fun) Thanks. Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 22:16, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Dismas, I see the correction you made on the Wagner page regarding the placement of external link. I also added more categories. I believe I corrected the disambiguation problem a few days ago, perhaps not. I disabled the links to pages that did not contain active information. Let me know if this solved that issue.Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 16:47, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Another suggestion Dr. Andrea Bruce, When answering these messages, the amount of :'s in front of a reply indicates the amount of space between the next message (kind of like the tab key in word), so when u place your reply, hit enter, then hit the appropriate amount of ":" (if you reply on this messsage that should be 4) It keep discussions more clear! :) Tomato 33 (talk) 22:23, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello!

Hello Dr. Andrea Bruce, let me say I really like the subject you are working on. :) A small piece of advise: If you "activate" your user page by just putting anything on it and saving it (it can be just "Hi I am Dr. Andrea Bruce."), your signature will turn from red to blue indicating that you are not such a "newbie" any longer. Best, - W.carter (talk) 22:02, 10 June 2014 (UTC) """"Thank you W.carter! Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 22:24, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

No problem @Dr. Andrea Bruce: :)! Btw I think you misunderstood Tomato 33's tip above. It is the :::: and not the """" you should use in order to get the talk running.
Look at what
I have written
here. :)
The Wikipedia if full of these little things that users use in the everyday talk (and they are not always obvious...). If there is anything you want to ask about just ask at my talk page User talk:W.carter or write {{ping|W.carter}} anywhere. That is how you alert the attention of another user, the same way I did with you at the beginning of this post. I wish you all the best luck with your article on Eugene Daub. Speedy deletion nomination of Cornerstone Construction Group

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Cornerstone Construction Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Tchaliburton (talk) 01:17, 2 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.

It seems very strange to me that you should suggest I did not spend time looking at your article before deleting it when you apparently either have not read or do not understand the wikipedia guidelines, specifically our neutral point of view policy. Whilst it is true that the article on The Haskell Company could do with some improvement, it is nowhere near as promotional as the article you created. If you could spend some time reading the many pages to which you have been referred on this talk page, you should be able to recognise the differences and you may be able to create a new article that meets the inclusion criteria for this encyclopedia. Deb (talk) 21:00, 31 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I will be happy to continue to work on this page and resubmit.Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 21:10, 31 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Deb,I have edited the article according the NPOV guidelines. Please review and give me your feedback. I would be grateful if you can let me know specifically what your objections may be.
You don't seem to have the hang of referencing, even though it's been explained to you above by other contributors. I've removed the sections that consisted entirely of external links, as they include no evidence that the company you are writing about actually has those awards/qualifications/clients, etc. That also leaves very little to demonstrate notability.Deb (talk) 08:11, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

User pages

edit

Hi. You may have noticed that I moved a page you created, User Dr. Andrea Bruce/draft, to User:Dr. Andrea Bruce/draft. This is because the page you created appeared in article space due to the lack of a colon after the User part of the name. You can create any number of user subpages if you use the syntax User:Dr. Andrea Bruce/*****, as these pages do not appear in the list of new pages which are patrolled. About the draft

edit

Hi! I have answered your question at the Teahouse. I'll help you move the article to a proper draft page and even give you a second sandbox, but the article has many issues that need to be taken care of before it can be accepted as an article. I will make some very small alterations while I move it. Best, w.carter-Talk 23:23, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you to responding to my question. I am new to the Teahouse. Can you tell me where I can access your answer? I also thank you for your offer to help with the article. Another editor suggested that I may want to beef up the narrative, and add reviews. I thought this article was in pretty good shape, i guess I have a lot to learn still. Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 23:32, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
So your draft is now at Draft:Cornerstone Construction Group your sandbox User:Dr. Andrea Bruce/sandbox is back to normal and a new second sandbox can be found at User:Dr. Andrea Bruce/sandbox2. I agree with the other editor that the article needs a bit more. Try looking at other articles for similar companies and see how they are made. If you just want to ask something you are always welcome to my talk page. Best, w.carter-Talk 23:43, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your assistance. I will probably take you up on your offer to help. I want to clean up the articles I have created before I work on anything new.Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 23:56, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Excuse me being nosy but why are you creating another article about Cornerstone Construction Group when we already have that one? Dismas|(talk) 23:48, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
No worry, thank you for taking the time to inquire. I am not creating a new article. I am attempting to place my work in a sandbox area, simply to preserve my work. I have had a couple of articles taken down for 'speedy deletion', I think I mentioned that. As you know Dismas, I am eager for instruction, but a few of the other editors here have caused me to be mindful of security.Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 23:54, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
So if I understand this correctly, you have already moved your article to the main area and are keeping a draft in case it gets deleted? w.carter-Talk 00:04, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Is that allowed?Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 00:06, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I... think... so..., it's just a little unusual. But keep working on the article (in the main area) all the same to save it from risk being deleted. And be sure to delete the draft page if the article is accepted. And a little tip: You can copy the text of your article to say a Word-file. Don't edit it in Word, but you can copy it from your draft and copy it back just for safekeeping. I often do that with my drafts in case something happens. Best, w.carter-Talk 00:14, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Word file. That works for me. The only reason I did not do it before is because I was not sure if I would have to create new ref links.Dr. Andrea Bruce (talk) 00:22, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Let me just clarify that: You copy all the text from the editing area to the Word document, including all the Wiki markup, funny brackets and everything. That way you get to keep all the refs and links. It will look strange in the Word doc but it works. Best, w.carter-Talk 01:08, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to Ron Linden (artist). I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this: |image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]], instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do: |image=SomeImage.jpg. There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! Speedy deletion nomination of Michael Davis (artist)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Michael Davis (artist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. reddogsix (talk) 23:51, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

LA to FA 2022

Dear Dr. Andrea Bruce,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!
