COI and membership

edit

I understand that you want to keep everything super above board, but I don't think that simple membership in a group (ie. Railway Preservation Society of Ireland) really indicates a COI. If you were like an officer (maybe even just aspiring to be one), then I would understand, but that isn't the case for general membership. –MJLTalk 02:00, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks MJL but that was the requirement previously; and I have been PBlocked and accepted same. And there is a difference between a member and a volunteeer. Obviously this sets precedents for RCTS and UK Railways (where I have had in one case smoothed over an RTCS member possibly promoting their own book as a source0. I'm not an RCTS member but might join. I would like to think the RPSI was like any other page I appropached but I felt some felt I has on the Whitehead side rather than the Dublin side; which is why I've given a lot of background at Mullingar on the RPSI talk page. Probably not mentioned their is that there is quite a cross-section of members who both belong to both and authors who belong to both. Thankyou for your thoughts. Re your requested edit. A ref is needed for the tender first running. Provide that and it's good to go. Mjroots (talk) 10:21, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Mjroots: Grrrr... you spotted that! I was kind of spend last night. Luckily I think I've just found a reference that seems to support it nicely. It's not perfect as I haven't got full access to the article (would probably get it at the Parkie library but haven't got time) ... but have enough to put forward a reasonable cite given the quote I managed to get from my google search. Thanks for your advice and help. This is really an article improvement rather than bias fixing edit. Djm-leighpark (talk) 12:47, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Support with Proposed Trims to History Section of the Lenovo Page

edit

I shared a link to suggested trims to the History section of the Lenovo page with a disclosed Conflict of Interest, due to what I felt was exorbitant detail. An editor responded on the Talk page where the link was shared saying they wanted opinions from others. I was looking for an active editor on other tech companies, came across you, and was hoping you might be willing to give that other opinion that was requested regarding the trims? It would be greatly appreciated if you the time to contribute to the discussion. StuartGill (talk) 09:47, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Allan Grimson

edit

What exactly do you think is the issue with the content you have removed? It is correctly cited. You may want to re-word it which is fine, but I am confused as to what you think is the issue. The documentary itself states "he's believed to currently be in an open prison", so how is this not correctly attributed?

Frazzerex — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frazerrex (talkcontribs) 14:26, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well there's no need to act so arrogantly. I wasn't the one who added that source, it was already there. The source verified is the documentary, not daily motion. And I don't need to ask at the teahouse as I know how to edit, you're the one who hasn't looked at the source. A correct reference for the source is:

Murdertown:Portsmouth. Crime+ Investigation (Television production). S02E01. 16 September 2019.

And what do you mean "it is believed" is simply not good enough? That's the wording the source uses. Would you like me to lie and not cite what is said in the source?

Frazerrex (talk) 14:49, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Frazerrex: Well I wass replying until I lost it in an edit conflict. I wouldn't like you to lie but I would like you to go to the WP:TEAHOUSE until you get competent as I said for advice there, where they are friendly. Or you can go to WP:BION. Or you seek mediation on the article talk page. If you are quoting from the source then you must say you are quoting that claim from the source. Per say {{whom}}. Or take me to WP:ANI. But if you are going to do it do it right. Telling me I need to look at the source when you are using Special:Diff/1073588888 and then claim you used work=Crime+ Investigation seems like a lie and a personal attack does it not? Djm-leighpark (talk) 15:09, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

How? It is sourced to Crime+ Investigation? You don't need the daily motion link because as you say, that's a copright violation. But that is a crime+ Investigation documentary. I've already opened a talk page discussion and asked for help from the article creator.

According to Template:Cite AV media, the source should be cited like this:

Murdertown: Portsmouth. Crime+ Investigation. 16 September 2019. Event occurs at 41:39. Allan Grimson will be eligible to apply for parole in November 2019. He's believed to currently be in an open prison...

What exactly is wrong with that?

Frazerex Frazerrex (talk) 15:19, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • That cite is a big improvement. There is still an issue with "He's believed to currently be in an open prison" because it is unclear who is making that claim; albeit the producer/editor likely takes responisbility. The pose of the article needs to attribute that belief rather than stating it as fact. I'm unsure of the best way of dong that but something like "In the 2019 program Murdertown Portsmouth is was reported Grimson was believed to be in an open prison". This must be in the body ... and it may be questionable if that can acceptably placed in the main section due to the impreciseness of the claim. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 18:22, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Fine, well I will cite it like that in the article Frazerrex (talk) 18:40, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for letting my “clonmacsherry” edit slide. I’m sorry for not adding the scource as I’m brand new to editing Wikipedia’s. My source for this information can be found on Colm Creedon cork bandon and south coast railway vol 3 the final farewell. Specifically on pages 89 and 107

Hope this helps WRC Colourised (talk) 14:42, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks ... I hope to reply later on this ... Djm-leighpark (talk) 16:53, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@WRC Colourised The mix-up of "Clonmacsherry" instead of "Courtmacsherry" (the Clon was likely in my head from Clonakilty) was definitely by myself at Special:Diff/1003101739, so thanks for spotting that. There's an essay on citing sources at WP:Citing sources. The Cork, Bandon and South Coast Railway article uses a lot of short form references and as Colm Creedon's work is already set up with a {{Cite}} in sources it is possible to add a citation by using the {{sfn}} template as in:{{Sfn|Creedon|1991|p=89}} or {{Sfn|Creedon|1991|pp=89, 107}}. After adding the citation if you hover over the entry in the footnotes the source should highlight.

I apericate your help. I’d hate to think I was being a nuisance. The whole “Clonmacsherry” ordeal was the reason I was a bit reluctant to share on WRC

Thanks again

Hello. I see you asked for refund of this article based on a DRV that doesn't seem to have been linked from the original AfD. Can I aks you your plans for this? Thanks in advance. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 16:34, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Eggishorn: Fettle it to begin with, but I've a much reduced bandwidth compared to about 2 weeks ago. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 17:53, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Eggishorn: On a further glance my memory recalls the interpretation of sources on this on ewas a little dodgy and would in my opinion several would need the re-write of associated content. This may be some unsourced content in the article. I'm not likely to attempt to address it immediately, really need to free some bandwidth, and its not a priority. If you wish to work on it go ahead. Thankyou. 23:29, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Djm, if you want to take a look, my nom of the original AfD contains a source evaluation table. I don't know if it helps you but I did in fact feel that there were major issues with the sources. Some other sources were presented during the AfD but they all showed the same lack of significance. What appears available is almost entirely passing mentions, If you can find better than those, I look forward to reading the result. I don't think I'm personally going to try again in the short term to try to find more. In the future, perhaps this group he was a part of will produce enough hagiography to merit coverage of that aspect but I doubt that there will ever be good enough sources to create a biographical article. I hope that helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 18:45, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Troublesome editor

edit
Seems resolved per Special:Diff/1079871141

I see that you have had dealings with User:BarehamOliver over the addition of BLP infringing information synthesis of sources. That's exactly what he ha been up to (twice now) at Penhallow Hotel fire‎. Given your final warning back in January I have now reported him at WP:AIV, but suspect it might actually need to go to ANI, in which case I would appreciate any support you can add to give admins a picture of what sort of editor this is. Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 06:56, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

My edits were only in good faith, but since you raised concerns then I am happy to drop the matter and I apologise . If you are wanting me to avoid editing BLP articles again in future then fine, I was basically in semi-retirement after your last concerns. BarehamOliver (talk) 08:57, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

You have been warned previously about BLP issues, yet you have twice added serious criminal allegations with no foundation to an article. 10mmsocket (talk) 09:00, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I understand there has been concerns raised about my edits, which is why I largely ceased editing. In regards to the Penhallow Hotel fire article, I (self-admittedly) added the wrong documentary source for the allegations regarding Karen Pedley back in December: [1]. You, rightly, reverted these edits as the information I added was not referenced in any of the sources. Yesterday I re-added the information with the correct documentary source [2] - it was the Nurses who Kill episode and not the Women who Kill documentary that contained the information - and so it was now correctly sourced to the Nurses who Kill documentary. You are right when you say the other sources don't contain the allegation, I only added them originally to give context as to who Pedley was. I can see that can be confusing though so as I say, I am fine not to have the section in there, or at least just the bit referenced to the Nurses Who Kill source. BarehamOliver (talk) 09:18, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@BarehamOliver: Please excuse if I don't look at the precise details in question. From memory, which may be faulty, I seen repeated concerning signs in interpretation of some fairly serious BLP matters, at one watching to half an hour of a presenter standing on the top of Portsdown Hill on a somewhat dodgy likely copyvio rip-off, the presenter didn't even seem to understand Portsmouth is a city. And you were likely to continue doing do in my opinion in my estimation. If you continue to focus in this sort of area you are likely to get in serious trouble, as one wrong move be libelous. Hello, Djm-leighpark,
I was surprised to see that you were blocked but now see that it was self-requested. I hope conditions in life improve for you. Wikipedia will always be here when you want to return. If this place is stressful, it's better to take a break and come back when you are refreshed than find work here to be unpleasant. I've taken two, unplanned extended breaks (6 months and later 2 years) and I wouldn't be editing now in 2022 if I hadn't left for a while! Wikipedia isn't going anywhere so come back when you feel like it. Take care, Liz Read! Talk! 21:12, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Liz. While I've had a couple of RL days and events that could of gone badly for me and others they've gone pretty well and just possibly marginally helped by not participating in some hot Wikipedia discussions. And I'm aware if I think I have some RL stuff maybe 90% of the UK/World population have harder RL stuff and 90% of those handle it better. Anyway read-only mode is simply a planning opportunity; and I doubt I'll read the dozen of more books I've read in the last 2 days at Loughborough & Chi Car bootमें Thanks. Djm-leighpark (talk) 21:52, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am happy to see your date stamp. Happy to unblock on request. As said above, wikibreaks are unexpectedly helpful. True in my case, at least, and I'm sure others. Enforced wikibreaks are STILL breaks. Self-enforced breaks the same. Let me know when or if. Look forward to seeing your datestamps spread widely across the pedia. BusterD (talk) 22:04, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks BusterD: if your're happy to unblock there's a pile of stuff backed up I'd like to get on with; perhaps starting with a delsort's which is certainly best done asap from an :en:WP point of view. But I'm cool if I'm not unblocked until my time is up also. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 22:20, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I just noticed your edit on a draft and thought, "Hey, you're back!" I hope you enjoyed your time away. I have really benefitted from breaks so I encourage others to take time away, especially if they get caught up in editing drama which can take away your spirit. Stay well! Liz Read! Talk! 01:28, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the considerations. Some RL situations went well over that period so others were not too badly affected by me being off; others maters are continuing but stablish for now. Not doing some draft fettling would have been painful; but I've totally failed to promote two obvious and simplish candidates to mainspace. Beyond that I've simply dealt with a some hijacks/vandalism etc. as they come up. Friday's good for crucifixions but I'm not sure I'll make it so the reckonings might be later. My priorities are, or ought to be, other Wikis anyway at the moment. Thanks and hope you're keeping well. Djm-leighpark (talk) 03:43, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your interest in Monisha Shah

edit

Djm-leighpark, I am wondering about your particular interest in Monisha Shah. Have you ever been a member of Wikimedia UK? Have you met Monisha Shah or her brother Samir Shah? I am not accusing you of having a conflict of interest, I am just curious about why you are so interested in those two articles. Polycarpa aurata (talk) 20:25, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Polycarpa aurata I confirm I have not had intercourse with that woman or that man to my knowledge. I have not been a member of Wikimedia UK but have had virtual intercourse with one of more members of Wikimedia UK and have sent an email to them from Arnold/Daybrook MacDonald's on the morning of 1st April 2022 waiting 2 hours from an NHS professional in West Sussex which never happened. Now if you want further information you'll need to jump and raise a WP:COIN. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 20:43, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I find your actions puzzling, so I am just trying to understand your interest in those pages. You were quite aggressive when I added a birth date to Monisha Shah's page, but then you created a page for her on the Hindi Wikipedia with the full birth date. That seems really inconsistent with you your comments here. Polycarpa aurata (talk) 21:05, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Polycarpa aurata: At the start of the BLPN there was no evidence that the full date had been published widely, during the course of the BLPN evdience and consensus arose which indicated the full birthdate had been widely enough published. Quite frankly you used the WP:COIN to publicize her birth date more widely rather than asking for clarification on the general principle or by using diffs. Now was that deliberate or a lack of competency? And of course one might ask the same question, what brought you to the Monisha Shah page in the first place. Jump to it, pray. Thankyou. 22:12, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
I didn't come here to argue with you or to be accused of something. sorry to bother you. Polycarpa aurata (talk) 22:51, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Polycarpa aurata: OK to AGF that wasn't the case and someone was/is going to ask those questions anyway at some point, at least it won't be over chess and a Madras curry, no joking there, though one has to deaddeal with the demand for the gold. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 23:17, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I hope you are fine. I read your edit summary on this page. That does not seem to make sense to me. Let’s say that Einstein, undoubtedly a notable person, was quoted by a newspaper saying that he hated green hats. That would not be a notable thing to add to a Wikipedia article. It’s simply not encyclopedic. Can you please explain this for me. Thanks for your time. Best regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 03:50, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for your considerations. And I am in time crunch. Heavily in time crunch. The content you reverted was inappropriate under the criteria you suggested in the edit summary namely "No it’s not a notable issue even if we agree that the msn himself is notable". On cursory glance at least some parts of the prose seem to address what the subject's views by what the subject himself has said. Perhaps not in a perfect way. So that content may be appropriate to the article. From memory, and I repeat memory, I think the suject's position / status was likely and still may be over exaggerated in the article. And I'd agree that the subject might be marginal but probable notability. It's also difficult be certain but neutrality of editor's be an issue on India related articles. Hopefully you and Annuxsing can sort it out because I don't want to get dragged into the gritty details. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 04:35, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Indefinite block

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for perennial disruption, WP:BATTLEGROUND and WP:CIR (both language and policy). Even at a glance, there are so many bewildering comments and actions, with little confidence of improvement at this time. But major improvement is what's needed. For example, I look at a sentence in a comment you've made a couple of weeks ago that reads: I actually am on Wikipedia to do contact (diff). Do contact, what does that even mean? Anyway, it's too much at this point, sorry.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  El_C 23:08, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well I've been Blocked. I was going to write this to the ANI but it hasn't taken. It isn't an unblock request.

I'd normally leave this for 24 hours but I'd probably better say a couple of things here. I've been fairly stressed recently and there have been and are ongoing family matters in which I am involved. Surprising as it may seem most edits in the past couple of weeks relate to lightweight anti vandalism, improving sources to articles, etc. Very calm and encyclopedically probably useful. Please check the defintion of noun wikt:intercourse which is communication (Did I use that as a verb ? deep deep red face .. communication was certainly intended). There is an obvious question if Polycarpa has been WP:SEALIONing to get a block. The concerns of Aviram7 using Monetizing on his user page in relation to {{Helpme}} was addressed essentially addressed by his change to monitoring; and I think I've approppriately thanked him now 3 or four times for that. I attempted to get Monisha Shah by due process and and little fuss as possible per Daniel's closure request of the original AfD. Yet I seem accused of subversion by a functionary. I guess Polycarp annoyed me in the first place due to haggling about M. Shah's full DOB and publishing it all over BLPN ... while initially the source would not have allowed for full DOB publishing others came up with sources which allowed it. I'd raised an Oversight message as Shah has been mentioned before. Jump to it is a reference to previous dialogs between Polycarp and myself. The Hindi article was a a superBOLD attempt. The translation tool (albeiit I shouldn't really have tried to used it) landed the thing in mainspace and I was attempting to copy it. I've done articles with translations in before, Drumm and Galway Clifden railway spring to mind. Bear in mind Monica Shah is from or near Mumbai and the part of her work in India is in someways more significant. I will also claim the AfD was subject to systemtic bias: WikiProject India was only mentioned in the last day before closure, there's other issues as well. A COIN on me at this point is useful as it gives a fully timeline of certain events for background. Coming to ANI as this point was appropriate as the badgering on discussions cauld not be allowed to continue. This is a bit of a ramble. Is there anything in the current incident that can't be solved by a Polycarpa/Djm-leighpark I-BAN? I am going to bed and I have missed the football, mind you I'll probably watch the football on catch up and goto bed. this isn't proof read. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 23:33, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Let just say I was up 18 hours after a disrupted night's sleep and I probably shouldn't have shouted this. I would remove it because I've said it but the shouting was inappropriate

Djm-leighpark, I don't even know what to say to that, except perhaps to point out that combining incoherent WP:COMMUNICATION with WP:BATTLEGROUND compounds both problems. El_C 09:07, 17 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@El_C: Well I'm not actually sure which bit your referring to, but I've collapsed the shout. "Please ensure you've blocked my alternative accounts djm-mobile and bigdelboy as well. Apologies if you have already done this. " was very arguably a reasonable request and to an extent a lesson to be learned in this situation. The ANI remains open at this point and further concerns have been raised and I am censored from making a considered analysis of my actions in the handling of a paid editing situation there. I'm only likely to make more sarcastic comments as this point while that ANI in outstanding so you or another admin ought to consider blocking me on all accounts (incl djm-mobile and bigdelboy), I'd suggest two weeks but you might choose indefinite. @El C I would like to place a request to unblock Djm-leighpark as he has been a good contributor, though landing in wrong places often, and though he is against my edits mostly, but I with GOOD FAITH, would like to reconsider his block. Further, I declare that I have no affiliation/contact with the user in question. This might not be a place to write these, but I beg Pardon for my mistakes. - Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 07:50, 4 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

RE your disappointed in my failure to AGF. . That you do not understand how you came across in this ticket does not argue in favor of you being unblocked. As the account you used for that ticket does have TPA, I think it best you request unblocking there. Please carefully consider your words. I've gone out on a limb for you removing that redirect so you can request unblock via your alt account. I would have, in any case, referred your unblock request to your talk page as unblock discussions should, whenever possible, occur by the light of day and not via hidden proceedings.
It is up to you to be persuasive in your unblock request. Thanks. Deepfriedokra (talk) 22:01, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
