{{Criminology-stub}}

edit

Hi - I see you have recently created a new stub type. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cyril - you wrote:Thanks for the criminology-stub comments. I think the parent category should stay as it is, criminology is definitely fit to an umbrella term for many categories, still, it's better to seperate forensic science and medicine from the criminology category.
Certainly it should stay in some of the parent categories it has, but one or two of them seem a little odd - I'm not sure why it should have been in a biography stub category, for instance 9the other way round may have made more sense). On the whole, though, it looks like the stub is acceptable and, if anything, it may be the earlier forensics stub category that needs to be looked at, since it hasn't really grown to the size where it would be very useful for editors. BTW, thanks for accepting my comments about the stub type so well - a lot of editors grumble very loudly when stub types they've created are questioned! Usurpations

edit

I have denied the usurpation as the matter has not been discussed by the community. There are many issues that need to be discussed such as legal and technical. Other issues include a maximum number of edits, the time duration, and the legal impact of the forced attribution change. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

This needs to be put up on Wikipedia:Village pump (policy), with a CC link on WP:BN and the talk page of WP:CHU/U. Since the topic is going to be contentious, it would be advisable to create a new page/subpage somewhere. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:53, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi Cyril,

Thanks for your note. I'm afraid that I'm not seeing the same problems that you are on Breaking Benjamin. After my unprotection, there have been only three edits; of those three, two were part of an edit and subsequent self-revert. Usually, when an anonymous user makes an edit and quickly reverts himself/herself, I don't make a big deal out of it unless it's accompanied by other troublesome edits; the user was probably experimenting. I don't know why you would have gotten any errors when editing; perhaps there was a database hiccup or the server was busy at that moment. — TKD::Talk 06:38, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I have a request for translation entry help on Wiktionary. Could you add the Malayalam translations for the following pages?

Please note that both "parrot" and "listen" have multiple definitions and multiple translations sections. Thanks for any help you can provide! --EncycloPetey 00:08, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have the same problem when I want to add words in Ancient Greek. The best option I have found is to copy and paste each letter from a page that lists them. For Malayalam, there is a Wikipedia article on Malayalam script, though I don't know whether it contains all the charatcers or not. My own browser isn't even set up to display Malayalam. --EncycloPetey 23:40, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

FBI Project?

Hi Cyril, I'm currently working pretty heavily on the biographical page for L. Patrick Gray, Hoover's ill-timed successor. Anyway, I thought about adding a FBI project tag onto his talk page, but it seems that project is pretty dead these days. Do you know what's going on with it? Are people still active in it at all? Dear Gary, Thanks for the message, I don't think FBI project page is active now, primarily because Shane is no longer an active Wikipedia user now, still we can contribute to the project. Adding project tag is a good thing, whenever I create a project related to FBI I add the tag because it will guide others to do the same and the project will be alive. Cheers, Cyril

Orphaned non-free media (File:Skokie dvd wiki.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Skokie dvd wiki.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Dashiell Hammett.gif

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Dashiell Hammett.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:25, 22 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 20:25, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Academy Group

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Academy Group, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Tagged for months with notability concerns, still lacks reliable 3rd party references

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Academy Group

I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Academy Group. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Speedy deletion of Academy Group

edit

A tag has been placed on Academy Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Yes, it's a real submachine gun, the image is flipped for the ease of usage. Ejection port is on the other side, in other words, it is a mirror image. Thanks for the question --Cyril Thomas 23:03, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Thomas Pala

edit

The article Thomas Pala has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't appear to meet WP:N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.   Hello Cyrillic! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 9 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Speedy deletion nomination of Jon Katzenbach

edit

A tag has been placed on Jon Katzenbach requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thank you for uploading File:John mills observatory.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. Academy Group

edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Academy Group, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://wikibin.org/articles/academy-group.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Speedy deletion nomination of Academy Group

edit

A tag has been placed on Academy Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 18:57, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Repost of Academy Group

edit

A tag has been placed on Academy Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion process. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article and put a note on the page's discussion page saying why this article should stay. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of continuing to recreate the page. Thank you. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Carl Pusser

edit

The article Carl Pusser has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. License tagging for File:Greenfarm.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Greenfarm.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Martha Crenshaw, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mapping. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

(Copy of the message posted in your talk page)Thank you for your message in my userpage talk section. The mapping disambiguation page is technically correct as terrorism mapping justifies the first part of the section of the page. As you can see, the "mapping" page is semi-disambiguation as it explain mapping relations with various disciplines in detail. When someone moving from Martha Crenshaw page by clicking the mapping link it will give the person an idea of the term mapping. Since specific research mapping article is unavailable it was the only choice I had. Thanks again for your message. Best wishes,--Cyril Thomas 17:12, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge

edit

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:59, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.
