Help please

Hello Cowdy001,

Thanks for your work on nature reserves such as Desert Camp Conservation Park and Wanilla Conservation Park (and others) which are useful for the plant articles I have written. I have done my first nature reserve (Deep Lead Nature Conservation Reserve) using yours as a template to link from Prasophyllum stygium but I struggled with the infobox and categories for the article. Hi Gderrin, your article looks OK to me – I have added a few things as follows:

1. I created a Talk page which links to the two relevant projects as well as including a request for an image.
2. Infobox – I have added the IUCN category which can be found by downloading the file 'protected areas under all forms of ownership excluding some protected areas on private land (in Victoria)' from CAPAD 2016. By the way, while CAPAD is a useful source, I have noticed that its content is dependent on what information has been given by state agencies to the Commonwealth department. In other words, it is wise to look at state listings of protected areas to see what it currently protected.
3. Opening paragraph – it is a good idea to state the relationship of the protected area to the locality
4. IUCN category – I have added mention of the IUCN category within the body of the article.
5. I have added the ‘External links’ heading and two links – the ‘Protected Planet’ link is only recommended as a link and not as a citation because it is ultimately sourced from CAPAD and its content may not reflect the current status of the protected area. I think it is a useful link because it shows the reader what the reserve looks like.
6. I have created "Category:Nature Conservation Reserves of Victoria (Australia)" which is a sub-category of "Category:Protected areas of Victoria (Australia)". I have searched and found eight articles and redirects which I have added to this category - all of these were sourced from "Category:Nature reserves in Victoria (Australia)". I also added the category for the Victorian region in which the reserve is located.

Secondly, I have the following comments re the article’s subject:

1. the content of your second paragraph is what I would describe as being ‘Prior use of the land’ – it would be good to reduce this to the minimum as it technically 'off=topic'. Conversely, it would be good to have some more content about the history about the reserve (i.e. from 1982 onwards) if possible. Also, a quick look at the Victorian Heritage Database suggests that there may be some heritage-listed places associated with the reserve.
2. Two sources suggest the land tenure arrangements to be relatively complex. i.e. there appears to be as many as four separate protected areas.

Welbourne Hill Station

Howdy, Nice work on all the station articles you've contributed to. The area you've quoted for Welbourne Hill is way off, currently it is 33x bigger than South Australia. the redirect is a short term measure as I am interested in doing an article about the Unincorporated areas of South Australia because there is a total of five unincorporated areas in SA, i.e. PUA, Whyalla, Torrens Island/Garden Island, Lake Albert and Coastal Waters. The 'Far North' region is the part of the state north of the areas where local government exists (i.e known as the 'settled areas') and where there is virtually no population (i.e. about 5000). Presumably it is called the 'Far North' because it is far away from the seat of the state government in the Adelaide city centre. When I was working for the ABS (more than 25 years ago!) there was a Statistical Division called "Yorke Peninsula and Lower North" (e.g. see this website, which I created using their classification many years ago, but which I haven't updated for a long time). In fact, while I was at the ABS, I had to compile the 1988 edition of the work cited on that page, so I had it in mind when I was creating the website. Island, locality, languages, wikidata

I think you are the go-to guy for the intersection of the topics above. My issue is Mundoo Island, South Australia, a gazetted locality which has no foreign links and is linked to Q48815825 which has no other statements. There is a redirect Mundoo Island which is categorised as an island and with possibilities. There's another Wikidata item wikidata:Q21886850 which is an instance of both island and locality, and has two bot-generated foreign pages, both of which are about the island, not the locality, as far as I can tell with Google Translate. I think I read somewhere that wikipedia redirects should not be linked from WIkidata, but I' not sure I did, so will defer to someone with better experience. I think I'd be inclined to separate the island and locality wikidata items, then link them somehow (like dams (walls) and reservoirs (lakes) are different but linked). Firstly, I created the redirect to prevent any possibility of the article for the locality being renamed as ‘Mundoo Island' and to create a place for an article about the island. Secondly, I do have a draft for the article about the island for which some more information is required. When this is finished, I will replace the Redirect and do some upgrades to the article about the locality. Thirdly, I agree with the separation in wikidata because both are different entities which only have two main things in common – they have the same name and they share the same location. Torrens Island

Hi Cowdy001, there's another bit of Torrens Island which isn't part of the Conservation Park - it's the land owned by Origin Energy, for their Quarantine Power Station. There's currently a development application for a proposed expansion of the QPS (on Allotments 112 and 302) - the opportunity for public comment closed on 17 March 2018, so the development application PDF is no longer listed on the State Planning Commission website, although I have a copy. Hi Bahudhara, Thanks for pointing out the omission - I have added this to both Torrens Island and Torrens Island Conservation Park articles. Is this the development application that you mentioned above -APPLICATION ON NOTIFICATION – CROWN DEVELOPMENT? I was also going to ask you if there are better photos of the land within the conservation park? Those available on Wikimedia Commons are not satisfactory. Yes, I have hundreds of photos taken at TIQS and in the TICP, but no time at the moment to select and upload - perhaps in the next week or so. User:Danimations recently snorkelled and took photos around the piles of the historic TIQS jetty, and will be doing so again tomorrow. Joseph Hawdon hatnote

Hi there, I removed the hatnote that you had added to the Joseph Hawdon article. Sorry, I used the wrong shortcut; what I should have shown in WP:NAMB. As you've been around for a few years and have a healthy edit count, I would expect that you know when to use a hatnote and when not to. I can't see why somebody would arrive at the Joseph Hawdon page by mistake when they are looking for something else (which is when a hatnote is helpful). Caladenia argocalla

Can you explain the reason for the link from Caladenia argocalla to Spring Gully Conservation Park? Seems a bit pointless when neither is mentioned in the other's article. (I appreciate C. argocalla may occur in the Park but it also occurs elsewhere.) Gderrin (talk) 00:51, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

It is now mentioned in Spring Gully Conservation Park; also please refer Recovery Plan for Twelve Threatened Orchids in the Lofty Block Region of South Australia 2010. Sorry to be pedantic. Whilst it is true that C. argocalla is mentioned in the references you cite, there is no mention I can find to Spring Gully. In fact, this reference includes - "The species no longer occurs south of Adelaide, where it has not been recorded since 1918". The orchid article states "It is only known from thirteen subpopulations in the hills north of Adelaide." I presume the Conservation Park is well south of Adelaide? Spring Gully Conservation Park is located to the north of Adelaide. Please go to the article and look at the map in the infobox, assuming you know where Adelaide is. If this advice does not satisfy you, there is a coordinate at the top of page which you can click -this action will take you to a page which a choice of mapping apps is available. Please select one of these apps to open a map and zoom out to see the relation of the conservation park to the state capital. In respect to the recovery plan, I found the following mention of the conservation park:

1. Page 8 - "Friends of Spring Gully Conservation Park" - please refer Friends of Parks if you wish to know more about the use of volunteers by the Department for Environment and Water (South Australia).
2. Page 32 - there is a picture taken in Spring Gully Conservation Park on this page.
3. Page 34 - there are three mentions of Spring Gully Conservation Park in table 9.
4. Page 146 - "Friends of Spring Gully Conservation Park " is included in the list of recovery teams.

Southern Boundary of Lefevre Peninsula

Hi Cowdy001 Sorry I am a novice with Wikipedia so my apologies if I am doing this wrong. I have had a query re the southern boundary of Lefevre Peninsula which I think you have recorded as being Recreation Road as the your edit dates are the same as the No 1 reference date. A person has told me they believe the boundary is Bower Road and asked me to change it. The no 1 reference link that was provided which references the boundaries takes me to Property Location browser but not to the specific information itself. I am not sure how to access document number SAD039060. When I search for Lefevre Peninsula on Property Location Browser it shows a map of Lefevre Peninsula with the boundary as Bower road? Hi Meredith,

"map of Lefevre Peninsula with the boundary as Bower road" is the extent of a "designated survey area"; this is one of the three entries under the name "Lefevre Peninsula", The other two are Subdivision and the Peninsula. If you type ithe words 'Lefevre Peninsula' in the search box, you should get three entries.

I have replaced citation citing the Property Location Browser website with one citing Location SA Map Viewer because the former has been upgraded by the state government with the result of that website being much more difficult to use. Please click the link in the new citation which open a tab with a map. Click on the green peg, then select 'What's here', then click 'Gazetter' and then 'Next' until you get to 'Lefevre Peninsula' where you need to scroll down until you get to the heading 'Other Details' where you can read the following text -

.G. Shaw-Lefevre was one of the South Australian Colonization Commissioners. The Surveyor-General has determined that the southern boundary of the topographical peninsula is approximately Recreation Road, Semaphore Park as an examination of old plans indicate that boats could have navigated the Port Adelaide River to approximately this point.

October 2018

Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Bungonia National Park. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!
