Ah, a welcome message, that's really nice. Frankly, I think that Wikipedia will come to be remembered as one of the greatest projects in the history of humankind. I'm not exagerating. The Wiki is to the information age what the steam engine was to the industrial age. I will be proud to make whatever tiny contribution that I can to such an epic project. BCP

I agree wholeheartedly with your view on the Book of Common Prayer; it is quite simply the best liturgical resource in human history (to date). I believe in formal liturgical worship (I'm quite "high church" for a United Methodist), not to the exclusion of other expressions, but as the finest way we've come up with. Good stuff. Hi. Sorry; I don't have any reason for supposing that either the design or this particular rendering of it is free. I'm not a lawyer; I don't really know what the deal is. Just had a quick skim read of it. It's so much better than it was. It's much more like an encyclopedia now, instead of being a random compilation of people's experiences and opinions. (Barry m 06:14, 16 January 2006 (UTC))

Anti-Americanism getting out of control

I need you to review something when you get a chance. "Phil," is fighting a revert war with me over in Backpacking (travel) and I need a second opinion on what to do. He's actually quoting himself as a source in the most recent revision of the article. Check out the "criticism" section to see what I mean. Joyriding

I can assure you that in Great Britain and Ireland, the term "joyriding" is universally understood to mean "theft of a motor vehicle" for the purpose of driving it at dangerous high speeds and with total disregard for the safety of other people. The usual intention is apparently to attract and then to try and outrun the police. The perpetrators tend to be the less intelligent and more anti-socially irresponsible members of the 13 - 21 age group. As another contributor to the discussion has pointed out, this lunacy has resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. I accept that it may have a different meaning in North America as do many other words. If, however, I spotted a word that is offensive to Americans, though not to us English, I would support any American who wanted it removed. --BlackJack | ^{talk page} 12:25, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

And I think you would be wrong for doing so. Just because something is offensive or illegal doesn't mean it should be removed. Also, given the varying definitions and interpretations of the word, many users are probably using it based on an assumption of its other, innocuous, definition. But this is why we have votes for deletion anyway, so that we can discuss these things. --circuitloss 14:32, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
