Chicano flag

edit

Sorry about changing the flag on the Aztlan article. I did not creat the design of that flag, just the actual file that was uploaded. The Eagle with a Macuahuitl was used as an unoffcial Azltan banner used by mexican americans in the Los Angeles immigration protests recently. I didnt realize that the current displayed flag was up for a specific purpose. Sorry for removing it. Rahlgd (talk) 13:51, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I can't see any reason not to post a notice with the Systemic Bias noticeboard. It sounds like a great idea to me. More editors is always a good thing. Remember that Wikipedia is a long term project, and you have to pace yourself to not get burnt out. Can you let me know when you post it? I might like to add a bit too. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 05:54, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Margita Bangová

It is totally legitimate to remove any content that isn't sourced, and is debated. So if a statement is cited, but the citation is bogus, it can be removed. That's an amazing amount of bogus cites it sounds like. I'll put the page on my watchlist, and if you do changes, I'll back it up, and try to check out those cites myself as well. Cheers! Chicaneo, I've replied to your comment at User talk:Desiphral#Margita Bangová article with some instructive links to our policies on this issue. Re:Thanks for the infobox

edit

You are more then welcomed. The last few months I have been working on a project as answer to Ken Burns film the "The War" which will air on PBS and which has omitted the contributions by Hispanics. The injustice against Felix Longoria is part of my project. I have sent a preview of my work to some influencial people and since you are from Texas, I'll share the response of one your states top educators:

"What a wonderful article! It is awesome. And of course, I was very impressed with the role of women in the military. I plan to read more on this subject. I recognize some of the names in the stories, San Antonio has some of these heros. I am taking your article to our next group meeting to share with my friends (some who are teachers). When we discuss WWII, in class I want to include some of your stories-- the known heroes and those that just served. Many of our students have family members in the military and I want them to understand that we need to honor all Hispanics. It is your stories that have made me more aware of the contributions of Hispanics in the military. I understand the need to include this as part our study on WWII."

Take care Tony the Marine 23:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • You are right about The Felix Longoria case and it makes me sick to think that this day in age this is still going on. Take for example the case of Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta. This brave Marine threw himself on a grenade and saved his comrades. He should have already been awarded the Medal of Honor! But, with the exception of the Los Angeles Times, most of our mainstream media haven't bothered to write about him. Yet, if a Hispanic does comite a negative act, he will recieve national attention. The media has been very succussful in creating an Anti-Hispanic sentiment in this country maybe as a devise to cover up the news about world events (war) that is really important. Anyway, I'm trying to change the negative perspective that has been created of our people by providing positive role models. If you like, you can send me your e-mail and I will send you a preview of my article. We will keep in touchTony the Marine 18:14, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

National Council of La Raza article

edit

Hello I noticed that you're a member of the wiki project for Mexican Americans and I thought I'd point out that an anonymous user recently added POV commentary to the National Council of La Raza article. They described NCLR as a "Brown Supremacist advocacy hate group". I'd undo those edits myself but I'm uncertain about how to revert changes with intermediate edits.JanDove23 (talk) 08:15, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexican-Americans was tagged as inactive in April 2010 - Did we all get burnout or just really busy? Chicaneo (talk) 07:23, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't know what happened.--LatinoMuslim 13:25, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
To avoid having a WikiProject being marked inactive, it's a good idea to constantly post activity on it - i.e. respond to any questions and queries made on the WikiProject's talk page, etc.
In regards to the scops of WP Mexican Americans and WP Latinos, a task force by definition covers a subset within a larger project. I.E. Detroit is a task force of Michigan. WP Latinos does encompass many cultures, while Mexican-American has one - but Detroit is a subset of Michigan, and Mexican-Americans are a subset of Latinos.
Thanks,
Thanks for the clarification. Hope you are able to participate once again. Chicaneo (talk) 21:35, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Done; copy-paste works.
The article, however, lacks any references at all; unreferenced facts may be removed, and with no references, the article is in danger of deletion - it looks like original research, which is not permitted. See WP:VRS, WP:FIRST. Chzz  ►  12:34, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ah right, yes, I had. But Mestiço (Brazil) has now been redirected too - and I agree, that does seem appropriate; I do not see the need for a separate article, at this stage. If you wish to try and make one, I suggest you work on a userspace draft first.  Chzz  ►  12:36, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back

edit

I'm glad you've returned.

Regarding the Mestizo article: There have been various criticisms of the CIA Factbook, but it's generally considered to be reliable. I looked a little for criticism of this specific information, and found it in an unlikely place.[1] Given that the information is apparently based on extrapolations and estimates, putting that date into the infobox and the map may be giving one viewpoint too much weight. See WP:UNDUE. In any case, stay cool.   Will Beback  talk  00:59, 16 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Citations

edit

I can't recommend any particular expert, though tough questions might go to the talk page of WP:CITE. Regarding that source, I'd probably use a template, Template:Cite book. That'd make it look like this:

  • Smithe, Frank B. (1966). The birds of Tikal. Illustrated by John Doe. Garden City, N.Y.: Natural History Press, for the American Museum of Natural History. OCLC 555759.

But the template isn't strictly necessary.   Will Beback  talk  02:29, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
