Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, Causeandedit, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

What are the four general rules at Wikipedia?
The four general rules are to respect your fellow Wikipedians, remain neutral, cite your sources, and to ignore a rule if it prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia.
Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
Please use the Article Wizard to create one, then add references to the article as explained below.
What are references, sources, and citations all about?
All claims must be supported by a book, website, or news organization independent of the subject of the article. The source must be reliable, meaning it cannot be a blog, MySpace page, or personal website. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to prove that an inaccurate statement is true, and that it should stay in the article. The policy regarding this states that the statement has to be verifiable, not necessarily true. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for more information.
How do I insert a reference into an article?

For inline references:

  1. Do a search on Ask.com, Google, or your preferred search engine for the subject of the article that you want to put a reference in.
  2. Click 'Edit this page' or 'Edit' in the Wikipedia article, and insert a claim into that article stating a fact about the subject. Don't click the save button just yet.
  3. In the search you did in step 1, find a website that supports the claim you made in step 2. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://www.some-website.com/some-page.htm).
  4. Go to the reference generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out the as many fields as you can. Then click 'Get reference wiki text'.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text.
  6. In the article, after the claim you made in step 2, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied in step 5.
  7. If the article does not have a References, Footnotes, Notes, or Bibliography section, then add this below the See Also section and above the External Links section:

==References==
{{Reflist}}

For references put at the end of an article:

  1. Do a search on Ask.com, Google, or your preferred search engine for the subject of the article that you want to put a reference in.
  2. In the search, find a website that supports the claims made in the article. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://www.some-website.com/some-page.htm).
  3. Go to the reference generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out the as many fields as you can. Then click 'Get reference wiki text'.
  4. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text.
  5. Go to the Wikipedia article. If the article does not have a References, Footnotes, Notes, or Bibliography section, then add this below the See Also section and above the External Links section:

==References==
{{Reflist}}

Then, add this after the {{Reflist}}, in a new line:

{{Refbegin}}
*Press paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) after this asterisk, then remove the <ref></ref> tags

{{Refend}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?

  Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Untitled (How Does It Feel). Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.

  • If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
  • If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive, until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively could result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 06:42, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Audio Stepchild, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Forthcoming (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).   Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Jonathan Hay Publicity. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you.   Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Additionally, please make sure to include an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion

edit

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident in which you may be involved. Thank you.

  • I'm sure you're watching the other pages, but I'd like to say again that I'd like to withdraw the COI accusation. I suspect that will happen soon. I was way too trigger-happy and made some pretty big assumptions, based on what I saw in the Hay article and your edit history. I am sorry for the stress I've caused. Nomination of Jonathan Hay (publicist) for deletion

edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jonathan Hay (publicist) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jonathan Hay (publicist) (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Tomwsulcer (talk) 23:52, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would ask that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jonathan Hay (publicist) (2nd nomination). Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please do not make personal accusations or attack motives of other editors at AfD. This does not help your case. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 00:30, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

> Shawn didn't you make personal accusations and use attack motives on me from the very begining, which really started this whole frustration? You later apologized, but, you went very strong on me with very wrong accusations.Causeandedit (talk) 00:34, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • I created a COI noticeboard discussion about you, because you had stated that you knew Hay personally and because I saw a long pattern of Hay-related edits. Which I did withdraw, yes. That doesn't excuse your tone at Afd. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 00:53, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the advert tag from Steve Lieber as I don't think it's justified. Can you point to any adjectives used or claims made that are spam-like? I don't see any. Very cut and dried in tone, it seems to me. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 01:29, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

You don't think it reads like a straight up advertisement, showcasing a whole portfolio of his work (that isn't really sourced)? I think the entire layout of the page is strange too. Once I find the proper word and investigate it, I'll tag it with that too. I've never seen a wiki page laid out like that. It looks like an advertisment.Causeandedit (talk) 15:56, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think once again Shawn you are misreading what I am saying here with "Once I find the proper word and investigate it, I'll tag it with that too" > MEANING, once i find the proper word (i.e wiki def of tags) and investigate when and how to use the tags, then I will properly tag it (if it follows that). Moreso, the page has a very strange layout and doesn't really seem like a proper wiki template so to speak. I'm having a hard time explaining because I don't know the proper "word" for that tag, but I'm looking into it.Causeandedit (talk) 15:56, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

What's "strange" about the layout? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:07, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the revocation

edit

Thank you for taking the time to revoke your accusation against me at the Wikiquette discussion, and for acknowledging my intent to help.

Let me recommend once again that you join up with WP:HIPHOP. It's not, alas, the most active of projects, but nonetheless it should be a place where you can reach out to experienced editors with an interest in hip-hop. It could be a place to rally some troops to help you support the article and find some good refs or show that your sources are actually good ones (although you have to be careful of WP:CANVASS concerns.) Barring that, it may allow you to hear that your sources are insufficient or inappropriate from someone for whom your first thought won't be to assume that they just don't know the scene. And it may lead you to other articles where your knowledge of the recording business can be particularly effective in informing Wikipedia's readers. --Nat Gertler (talk) 15:34, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Look at MY talk page and the last 8 things one person has put up. I was SO extremely passionate about Wikipedia and have spents hours upon hours trying to improve MANY articles. I've donated my hard earned money into helping this site and just look at the personal attacks and bullcrap I've had to deal with. Nobody has really tried to help me, only tried to tear down and destroy. The easy fix to wikipedia is everyone who signs up, put in there real name and personal information and have personal accountablity.Causeandedit (talk) 01:33, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

  Hello. I noticed that you attempted to file a deletion discussion but did not complete the process. Please note that, when listing an article for deletion, a discussion page needs to be made for other users to discuss whether to keep or delete the article. This is typically done by following the steps listed here. Note that if you are editing as an unregistered user, you cannot create a discussion page. Please consider registering an account or asking another user to help you complete the process at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion. Thank you. GentlemanGhost (talk) 03:40, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. I'd also like to introduce you to Wikipedia's policy of no personal attacks. I haven't defamed you; I've merely told you that you need better references. So, I would appreciate it if you were less abusive in your tone. Also, speaking of trying to prove a point, there's nothing more point-y than nominating articles for AfD as retaliation against editors who disagree with you, cf. Nat Gertler. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 06:43, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/James Mark JM}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 19:01, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
