NPP Program
Hi @Cassiopeia
I am requesting to be your student for the NPP program. I read that you have two available slots for the program and I am humbly requesting to be part of your amazing mentees. I promise to dedicate my time and energy till the very end.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Usmanagm (talk • contribs) 21:46, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Usmanagm Good day. Thank you for interested in NPPS program. To join the program, the participant needs to have minimum of total main space edits of 500. At the moment you have only 26. I suggest you to complete WP:TWA program (about 90 mins) so you may familiar with some fundamental Wikipedia guidelines first to edit Wikipedia. Stay safe and best. Recent changes
- The Wikisources use a tool called ProofreadPage. ProofreadPage uses OpenSeadragon which is an open source tool. The OpenSeadragon JavaScript API has been significantly re-written to support dynamically loading images. The functionality provided by the older version of the API should still work but it is no longer supported. User scripts and gadgets should migrate over to the newer version of the API. The functionality provided by the newer version of the API is documented on MediaWiki. [1][2]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 December. It will be on all wikis from 8 December (calendar).

Thank you.

Hey! I'm looking to get into doing something new here, and as such have considered NPP. I am willing to enrol in your course as an NPP trainee. Thanks! Silikonz💬 14:38, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- Silikonz Thank you for interested in NPPS. Pls note that the NPPS program do require a lot of your time on reading the material and working on the assignments. Pls note that all communication about the program state in the communication section at the bottom of the assignment and not my talk page. Reviewed your NPPS program. Stay safe and best. WP:MMABIO is outdated, should it be updated to the standard of WP:NMMA? Nswix (talk) 16:28, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
Disregard. It got changed after some confusion yesterday, regarding the deletion discussion for Jay Perrin. Nswix (talk) 16:29, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- Nswix Good day. Thank you for informing and I believe it has been updated. Btw, thank you for reverting some vandalism edits and you can warn the editors on their talk page of the vandalism edits so (1) they could understand Wikipedia guidelines and (2) if they still continue to vandalism any pages in Wikipedia, they could be reported to WP:AIV so they could be blocked from editing if they violated the Wikipedia vandalism guidelines the 5th times. You can just click on the "Twinkle / TW" on the top menu of the editor talk page and choose the warning level and type of warning. Thank you very much for your contributions especially in MMA related pages. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:09, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Question from Kbante1992 (00:33, 12 December 2022)
Hi! I created an account to write an article on our newly seated governor. Do you think information found on his curriculum vitae will be enough (even a bare minimum at first) for a biographical article? How will we reference this? Thank you. --Kbante1992 (talk) 00:33, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Kbante1992 Good day and thank you for the question. Only subject is notable based on Wikipedia WP:GNG could be merit a page in Wikipedia. As per GNG, the subject needs to have significant coverage from independent, reliable sources such as from the major newspapers or books which the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept and not passing mentioned. As a governor, the subject fails WP:NPOL and unless the subject is covered by the sources stated above besides his related governorship, then it might have a chance to pass GNG. Thus his/her curriculum vitae is considered not independent nor reliable sources and can NOT be used for notability requirements purposes. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:14, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Peace Dove
Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, peoples rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension.

WP:NPP School
Hi, I want to enroll and I wonder if you still accept new trainees. FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- FuzzyMagma Good day. Thank you for interested in the program. Pls note that the program do require a lot of your time working on the assignment and reading the material. Although there is no time limit to complete the program, most participants complete the program in 3-4 months. If you still interested to join the program, then pls complete WP:TWA first and pop back here when you have done that. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Cassiopeia if you have the time to give a feedback then I am surely want to stick around. I have tried this WP:TWA before and it is just annoying. I have covered the material at that WP:TWA already and have a good understanding to the main policies (sadly learnt from my mistakes and by observing others mistakes)
- I am gunning to be more consistent with time I devote to Wikipedia and be around for the long run. I want to understand more how this (virtual) place ticks.
- Thanks for taking me as a trainee .. hope I will make the most of it FuzzyMagma (talk) 11:03, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- FuzzyMagma I understand not every editor like the TWA as it is written for teenager or younger kids; however, it is a very valuable info and program. I have taken the program when I started years ago and learn a lot of the some Wikipedia fundamental guidelines. I suggest you to take the program for the NPPS is a very complex and comprehensive and without knowing the fundamental guidelines, you will find it extremely difficult to understand and answer the assignment. TWA takes only about 90 mins of your time. Pls complete and pop back here and I will set up the program for you. Cassiopeia talk 11:09, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Cassiopeia I think I have finished the WP:TWA, although I had to repeat it a couple of times because it got stuck and did not detect my edits. As a result, I have like e researcher padges and spammed my talk. Anyway, feel free to check my contributions to gauge my skill level. these are the pages that I have created or heavily updated/edited .. FuzzyMagma (talk) 18:42, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- FuzzyMagma You have gone through only part of the TWA program. Pls do not use mobile device but landline on your laptop to work on the program. Please to complete the program then pop back here. Cassiopeia talk 09:06, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Cassiopeia I do not think I will do it. I did it the first few times out of respect to you and your contribution to Wikipedia. It is very annoying and a complete waste of my time, I already have few good pages and solid editing record. I would rather go and read policies (which I do regularly and happy to read more if you can point more) than re-trying this.
- Judging from your replies, this seems like your perquisite to start the training; thus, I think I will excuse myself. I will try to earn my stripes in another way. Apologies for wasting your time and it might be worth it to mention WP:TWA in your NPP school bio. Cheers. FuzzyMagma (talk) 10:24, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Spengler Cup
Hello. I'm going to dump all the articles about this tournament. Last time there was a problem with the sources. So I have a question. Will this French source work? Sincerely Jphwra (talk) 16:04, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Jphwra Good day and thank you for the question. [6] is considered not a reliable source as it states (translated to English by Goggle translate "This site contains information, results and articles on French, European and international ice hockey, and also aims to bring together the archives of French hockey which has forgotten its past for too long. To carry out this project, all the good wills are necessary. Advancing information on hockey is a collective work, to which YOU can certainly contribute, whether in the form of reports, photos, archives or other. To collaborate on this site, send an email to branchum@club-internet.fr" which means the source is contribute by content viewers and is not a reputable site. Stay safe and best. Question from Greenish9 (22:29, 14 December 2022)
What's a good way to point out inaccuracies in an article? --Greenish9 (talk) 22:29, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Greenish Good day and thank you for the question. If the content is not supported by the source(s) provided then it would considered not accurate/not supported by independent, reliable source). What we can do is to reflect the content as per source (correct it) and if the source does not even state the content claim then we can removed the info from the article and remember to state that in the "edit summary" prior saving the edit and if not you will be warned for vandalism if you didnt provide any explanation. Stay safe and bst. Cassiopeia talk 02:33, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

- Writing SPARQL queries can be very challenging. You can find inspiration by browsing and searching in this dataset of 2,400 queries collected from Wikidata. (source)
- The French Wikipedia now uses a Wikidata-based list for the pages on specific dates, without relying on ListeriaBot. Who was born on a December 19th and has an article in French? You now can have the answer thanks to a Wikidata query by going to the page 1er décembre on frwiki and clicking on the infobox link "Naissances du jour". This is a link to a Wikidata list provided by the query service. The query is generated by the template fr:Modèle:Naissances un jour du mois. This follows another such template used to find all persons with a certain surname on frwiki, used on all surnames pages and on some disambiguation pages, fr:Modèle:Liste des personnes ou_personnages par prénom. For the surname Victor (Q539581) (view with Reasonator, SQID) this generates on the page w:fr:Victor_(prénom) a query such as this one.
- Wikidata now has more than 100,000,000 items! Exactly which item was the 100 millionth is unknown as of writing, but there are some clues for anyone who wants to dig into it.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 9 January 2023.
Recent changes
- On a user's contributions page, you can filter it for edits with a tag like 'reverted'. Now, you can also filter for all edits that are not tagged like that. This was part of a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [7]
- A new function has been used for gadget developers to add content underneath the title on article pages. This is considered a stable API that should work across all skins. Documentation is available. [8]
- One of our test wikis is now being served from a new infrastructure powered by Kubernetes (read more). More Wikis will switch to this new infrastructure in early 2023. Please test and let us know of any issues. [9]
Problems
- Last week, all wikis had no edit access for 9 minutes. This was caused by a database problem. [10]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
- The word "Reply" is very short in some languages, such as Arabic ("ردّ"). This makes the Discussion tools button on talk pages difficult to use. An arrow icon will be added to those languages. This will only be visible to editors who have the Beta Feature turned on. [11] [12]
Future changes
- Edits can be automatically "tagged" by the system software or the Edit filter configuration system. Those tags link to a help page about the tags. Soon they will also link to Recent Changes to let you see other edits tagged this way. This was a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [13]
- The Trust & Safety tools team have shared new plans for building the Private Incident Reporting System. The system will make it easier for editors to ask for help if they are harassed or abused.
- Realtime Preview for Wikitext is coming out of beta as an enabled feature for every user of the 2010 Wikitext editor in the week of January 9, 2023. It will be available to use via the toolbar in the 2010 Wikitext editor. The feature was the 4th most popular wish of the Community Wishlist Survey 2021.

I need help
Rename article 2021–22 Supreme Hockey League season to 2021–22 VHL season. I confused something there and gave the wrong title of the article. Thank you. Jphwra (talk) 19:44, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Jphwra I have moved the article to [2021–22 VHL season. However, you need add more independent , reliable sources (IRS)for the article to meet the notability guidelines (5-7 IRS). (Note) This two sources -1 and -2 are interview pieces which means the sources are not independent and therefore they can not use to contribute to the notability guidelines requirements. For such I have moved the article to the draft space. When you found enough IRS to support the content claim, then submit the draft article, Draft:2021–22 VHL season, for review. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:48, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- I did Removed Russian sources and added links to English-language hockey sites. You can turn it back. Articles for previous seasons have no notes at all. And please withdraw the 2021–22 Supreme Hockey League season. Jphwra (talk) 06:03, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Jphwra First of all, sources in any languages can be used in Wikipedia provided they are independent, reliable sources (IRS). Secondly you need min 5-7 IRS to meet the notability guidelines for stand alone article in mains pace and at the moment the draft article does not meet the guidelines. Submit the draft article when you can find enough IRS for review 2. You are the creator for 2021–22 Supreme Hockey League season, so you can request for Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion (CSD) by adding {{Db-g7}} (Author requests deletion) on the CSD tag you submitted. Pls read the text on the salmon colour box "Replace this tag with {{db|1=some reason}}." Let me know if you need any help. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 06:09, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Please remove the article Draft:2021–22 VHL season. I am not going to add anything there, update, etc. I'm not interested in it. Jphwra (talk) 15:57, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Jphwra Draft articles will remain in draft space for six months and it will be removed if there is no edit performed during that time. Cassiopeia talk 22:24, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Question from Ezzy poo (19:34, 22 December 2022)
how do i make a new article --Ezzy poo (talk) 19:34, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- Ezzy poo Good day. Please read Help:Your first article and follow the instructions. Pls note that for a subject to be notable to have a page/article in Wikipedia, the subject needs to have significant coverage by independent, reliable sources such as from the major newspaper and books where by the the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept and not passing mention. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:41, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
NPP school withdrawal
Hi Cassiopeia
I'd like to thank you for helping me with NPP, I've learned a lot during the process. However, I have decided not to continue with my NPP school program, as I find the process tedious, especially looking for articles to delete to show understanding of the CSDs. Page curation probably isn't for me, so I now don't think I am likely to become a new page patroller, but will contribute in other areas. Thank you for teaching me about things like the CSD log, which I will surely continue to use on my Wiki-adventures. JohnmgKing (talk) 11:37, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- JohnmgKing Good day. You have finished half of the assignment and sorry to learn that you would like to stop the program. I understand every editor does have their own area of interest to contribute. I will keep your program page for you in case at anytime in the future you would like to finish the program. All you have to do is to drop a line to me and let me know as I am always here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:47, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
