Unspecified source/license for File:Gwen Tennyson.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Gwen Tennyson.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

A lengthy welcome

edit

Hi Cassandra872. Welcome to Wikipedia. I've added a welcome message to the top of this page that gives a great deal of information about Wikipedia. I hope you find it useful.

Additionally, I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 17:04, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Response to your edit summary

edit

I am not going to revert your persistent addition of your family tree template to the List of Dragon Ball characters page, yet, but I will respond to your edit summary here. It is not my intention to make your life difficult or destroy out of spite whatever you are passionate about working on, but you really need to understand basic policy and guidelines on writing fictional material on Wikipedia. I know from experience because I've learned it the hard way too.

I invite you to thoroughly read up on Wikipedia policy for Verifiability and General Notability Guideline. These are important because they have been vetted through past consensus that every editor must follow, not a mere recommendation or opinion piece. Please understand that before you work on and publish anything, the onus is on you as the creator of the article to prove that a subject is notable and appropriate for inclusion into wikipedia main space. So, it is not my job or responsibility to correct you, the onus is on you to prove your submissions to wikipedia when another editor challenges the verifiability of your claims or the sources you cite.

As for your response of "Typically an I and II (or Sr. and Jr.) would be used to differentiate the characters, but it is not necessary, and I can remove it". Well, that is original research because neither primary or secondary sources actually say that Gohan is referred to as "II". It can be inferred by the reader that he is for all intents and purposes "Son Gohan II", but it is unencyclopedic to spell it out on Wikipedia when the sources don't explicitly spell it out. What's to say that Grandpa Gohan isn't the first member of his family lineage to be named Son Gohan? So, you must remove all references to that, or at least stop obstructing other editors like me from correcting it by reverting their edits. Now, compare this to Warren Worthington III, where the character is explicitly referred to as the third member in his family line with the exact same first and last name. Haleth (talk) 22:54, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I can do that. Thank you for your response. Cassandra872 (talk) 23:13, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

STOP. Your family tree templates are nominated for deletion and have almost unanimous agreement at this time that they are inappropriate and violate WP:NOR. You need to immediately stop adding them to pages. Even if the templates were appropriate, your addition of them to multiple pages would not be. --Yamla (talk) 14:36, 4 November 2020 (UTC) @Yamla:Reply

This is not one of the templates nominated for deletion; I made sure this one would be as fitting as Template:Skywalker family tree and Template:Jedi Order master-apprentice relationship, which are allowed, as well as Template:Addams family tree, the one which is currently generally agreed to be kept among those nominated. Cassandra872 (talk) 14:44, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Right. Because you added it after the other templates were nominated for discussion. Stop adding these templates everywhere. Once the discussion concludes, you'll have a better understanding of whether the templates are generally acceptable or instead, generally unacceptable (and if so, why). Until that discussion is concluded, you should stop creating new similar templates and you should stop adding them to pages. I want to be clear, the consensus may flip and it may be decided that all of your templates are appropriate and should be added widely, in which case great. But hold off until the discussion is resolved, please. --Yamla (talk) 14:47, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, that seems reasonable. I will wait until the discussion is closed. Cassandra872 (talk) 14:47, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you violate Wikipedia's no original research policy by inserting unpublished information or your personal analysis into an article, as you did at Regeneration (Doctor Who). --Yamla (talk) 14:48, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I added that there before I saw your second message, and was about to remove it myself before I saw your new message here. Cassandra872 (talk) 14:52, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

You agreed to stop adding family trees until the discussion was closed. So, why did you resume adding family trees? I strongly urge you to self-revert. --Yamla (talk) 20:21, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, you uploaded File:WoldNewton.gif which is clearly marked as copyrighted, and which you acknowledged was copyrighted, and then falsely claimed the image had no author (despite the author being clearly identified) and falsely claimed the image was not actually protected by copyright. This is not appropriate and you need to clean this up. --Yamla (talk) 20:48, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I agreed immediately afterward, and would have self-reverted if you had not reverted. The File:WoldNewton.gif part was unintentional. Cassandra872 (talk) 11:59, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
The file page still says that it's public domain. And required fields like "Author" and "Permission" are incorrect. Plus this image generally violates MOS:TEXTASIMAGES and really shouldn't be used on Wikipedia anyways. Woodroar (talk) 12:59, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I will fix that now. Cassandra872 (talk) 16:01, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
"I agreed immediately afterward" No, you agreed prior to uploading the image and adding it to the article. It's too late to fix it now, the image has been removed as a copyright violation. --Yamla (talk) 16:04, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
That was in the wrong line; I was responding to your comment on resuming adding family trees. Cassandra872 (talk) 16:07, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from List of recurring Futurama characters into List of Futurama characters. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 21:07, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

I have blocked you indefinitely. I'm sorry, but you appear to be either deliberately disruptive (including violating WP:NOR and WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:CONSENSUS and WP:UNDUE and others) or simply don't understand what multiple people have told you. WP:GAB explains how to contest your block, but you'll need to demonstrate a clear understanding of why your edits were disruptive and you'd likely need to agree to some sort of topic ban (though it's not clear how that could be worded) in order to be unblocked. --Yamla (talk) 18:40, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Yamla: Haleth and I had agreed to keep the template on List of Dragon Ball characters separately from the original template, and I was just putting it back after Lord Opeth removed it. I had agreed with the concept of removing all trees except Template:Addams family tree, and was in the process of changing my vote on the discussion page when you blocked me here. I understand why you see it as disruptive, and can impose a topic ban on me about family trees; I don't have more to write. Cassandra872 (talk) 18:49, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
In fact, the message by Lord Opeth was "Why adding the whole code of this "family tree" if we can just place the link to the template? Also, if the result is for this to be kept, it belongs to the bottom of the article, similar to the individual character articles." The reason for its re-addition was that the template is going to be removed, and I moved it at the bottom of the page as they suggested. Regardless of me being here, it is worth including there, if not as a template on its own. Cassandra872 (talk) 18:52, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) As you have volunteered to accept a topic ban around family trees, I have lifted your block and you are immediately free to resume editing. Please note that this is "broadly construed", meaning you shouldn't add family trees to articles, you shouldn't create family trees, you shouldn't engage in discussions about family trees, you shouldn't vote in RfD's around family trees. Note also that you will be expected to adhere strongly to WP:NOR and WP:COPYRIGHT going forward. If you have any questions on those policies, please ask and make sure you understand the answer before taking a chance and violating them. I also want to say, I'm glad you are an enthusiastic editor. I have much hope that you'll be significantly valuable to Wikipedia in the future. Lots of people accidentally cause disruption in their early days and go on to be hugely valuable. You just need to be careful! Happy editing. --Yamla (talk) 18:56, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) Once you've been around awhile without having any issues - say, 6 months and a few hundred edits over a variety of topics, including edits in discussion areas other than your own user talk page - ask yourself "do I care about family trees enough to want to contribute constructively in that area, without caring about them so much that I'm unable to contribute constructively?" If the answer is "yes" then consider asking Yamla to either lift the ban or reduce the scope of it, perhaps to an interim state of being allowed to discuss them and, when there is a request for one that is clearly supported by at least "local consensus" (that usually means a week-long discussion on an article talk page, with significant participation), being allowed to create them. In the meantime, I for one look forward to your constructive contributions to the project.
By the way, if there are topic areas you are passionate about, that's a good sign you should be very careful making significant changes to those topic areas until you have a very good "feel" for both Wikipedia's neutrality policies, guidelines, and practices and, just as important, a very good "feel" for your own ability to be impartial in those areas. There are topic areas I mostly stay out of because I know my emotions can over-ride my objectivity without me realizing it. There are other areas where I have the ability to be objective most of the time but I know that there's a risk that the one time I'm not being objective is the one time I'm making a major edit. In these topics, if I make a major change, I "self-revert" it then open a discussion on the related talk page, just to make sure I'm not editing with "emotional blindness" to my own biases. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:09, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations

edit

In my many years here, I've rarely seen a properly-given disruptive-behavior-based "indef" block be lifted so quickly. It is your civility, clear recognition of where the problem was, and pro-active offering of an alternative that allowed for the quick lifting. If by this time next year it is obvious to everyone you are a valued contributor, I and others may hold up your early block-log history and the way you handled it as an encouraging example to other new editors who "get off on the wrong foot." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:19, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source/license for File:Giffany Concept.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Giffany Concept.jpg.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 16:01, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Note that you were previously warned, and previously blocked for, violations of WP:COPYRIGHT. Please resolve this copyright issue immediately, before editing further, and ensure there are zero more instances of this. --Yamla (talk) 16:38, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Original Giffany.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Original Giffany.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Thank you for uploading File:Original Giffany.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the :Jennika article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text—which means allowing other people to modify it—then you must include on the external site the statement: "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, and under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribute Share-Alike".

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the Help Desk. You can also leave a message on my talk page. --Yamla (talk) 16:58, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Yamla: Could you move Jennika into draftspace first so I can remove the copyrighted text and save the progress I have? Cassandra872 (talk) 17:01, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
No. We cannot allow copyright violations to exist anywhere, and that was pretty blatant. --Yamla (talk) 17:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: And a Jennika article without any copyright violations is possible. I can remove all of the blatant violations and fix the rest. Cassandra872 (talk) 17:04, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
You are welcome to do so. Your very next edit must be to clean up the source and licensing issues with File:Giffany Concept.jpg and File:Original Giffany.jpg and then you can work on a new Jennika article if you wish. Note that you are on a short leash. I want to see zero more violations of WP:COPYRIGHT. You've had more than enough warnings about this. --Yamla (talk) 17:10, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
And, for crying out loud, File:Giffany.jpg. Clean up those three files immediately. You have no excuses for your continued rampant copyright violations. No excuses. --Yamla (talk) 17:12, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: I have the three files cleaned up. Could I work on a new Jennika article? Cassandra872 (talk) 17:17, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Blocked (2)

edit

Giffany was yet another instance of a copyright violation. You took almost all the content from gravityfalls.fandom.com. You've been warned about this over and over and over and over again. You are done, I have blocked you indefinitely. I cannot see a path forward for you. --Yamla (talk) 17:55, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Yamla: That was placeholder text that I had already replaced with fully original content just about a minute before you deleted the article. If you restore it you will see the article no longer violates copyright. I should have put it in draftspace first, and I am sorry about that, but it would be an overreaction to block me. I did not mean to violate copyright at all. Cassandra872 (talk) 18:05, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
This is simply not true. Huge amounts of content was taken from gravityfalls.fandom.com. Even if it was true, which it wasn't, you were warned over and over and over again and should have been blocked for uploading "placeholder text" that you took, in violation of WP:COPYRIGHT, from another site. No, we are done here. I won't respond further. Don't ping me again. --Yamla (talk) 18:08, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Licensing for Fandom.com content permits free use on Wikipedia. It is not a copyright violation to use it other than attribution being required. It falls under WP:Plagiarism to use it without attribution. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:21, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: This message from Geraldo Perez looks as though it would help.
It is true that I did replace the text nonetheless just now before you deleted the article, and cleaned up the sources and licensing issues with the three images immediately as well. I really did use that text from the Fandom wiki only as placeholder text and did not mean to publish the page with it still there. I will not make this mistake again at any point in the future. You can block me again without warning in that scenario, and impose a different topic ban on uploading images to Wikipedia as well if it would help. Cassandra872 (talk) 18:27, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

3 files you uploaded weeks ago

edit

I realize you are new to Wikipedia and were even newer when you uploaded these files, so you are forgiven for completely following our copyright polices. However, please fix them today:

I see that you are currently blocked. Since you still have access to this talk page, please reply to this message with the following information:

  • Proof that the first two pages are properly licensed. If it checks out, I will move these two images to the Commons. Don't bother with a fair-use claim, if you are ever un-blocked you can "start over" with them with the proper licenses and proper fair-use claims.
  • Proof that either the publisher/copyright owner, the Wikipedia community, or an expert in copyright law has said that Grease.jpg is in the public domain. If I don't see that, I will open a discussion at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions and leave its fate in their hands.

Please provide answers within 1 day. If I don't hear from you, I will tag the first two files for deletion and start a discussion on the third one.

For anyone else following this user's upload history: The rest of the uploads, not counting ones made today that I may have missed, look to be labeled properly. However, many need to be "reduced" in size or quality. The "bot" that usually does that job isn't running on its usual reliable schedule, if at all, so these "fair use reductions" may need to be done by hand. See Special:ListFiles/Cassandra872 for a list. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:09, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unblocking before 6 months probably won't happen

edit

Rather than petition for unblocking now, please read WP:Standard offer and wait 6 months before asking. If you are reinstated, you might be subject to a ban on uploads.

Assuming you have not been banned from the Wikimedia Commons, you might try establishing a reputation there as a good editor. They are VERY strict about copyright. Absolutely nothing can be uploaded unless it is in the public domain or covered by a suitable license (see Commons:Commons:Licensing). "Fair use" doesn't cut it. "PD-simple" needs to be clear-cut, the Grease logo would need to be discussed BEFORE being uploaded since it's not "clear cut." Claims that an image is license with a proper license or is in the public domain will need to include proof if there is any doubt at all that it isn't a case of "own work, 100% original content, not based on someone else's work or concept." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:15, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I cannot see an unblock w/o an absolute ban on file uploads and a very convincing explanation of what constructive edits would ensue. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:30, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Deepfriedokra: I can accept an absolute ban on file uploads. My constructive edits would include making a Bill Cipher and Jennika article with original text and no WP:Copyright violations. Working on character pages like at Fargo, Prison Break and Infinity Train would be my primary focus, adding more information about the characters and making of the characters. These pages are much sparser than they should be at the moment. Proper pages for Wizarding World characters like Gellert Grindelwald and Newt Scamander are also pages I would work on. Cassandra872 (talk) 18:38, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Cassandra872: Take some good advice - take a break from the English Wikipedia for at least 6 months per WP:Standard offer. I recommend taking a break from all Wikimedia projects for the rest of the year. If you do decide to try out another Wikimedia project, learn the local rules first - many have rules that the English Wikipedia does not - and try to get a mentor or someone else to double-check your work for your first few weeks or first few hundred edits, whichever comes last. The only edits you should be making to this page before May are the ones I asked for above, clarifying the status of those 3 files. That, and any other direct responses to questions others have asked of you. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:51, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Deepfriedokra: I can see an unblock without a ban after a "standard offer" period, but I have rose-colored glasses. That said, I wouldn't lift the File:-space ban without several months of constructive editing here or on another Wikimedia project without any copyright-related or filespace-related problems though, full stop.
Why am I optimistic? Because people change and, based on this editor's choices of topics, I would guess she is no older than her mid-20s (Cassandra872 please do not give your age, please don't even give hints, it doesn't matter if you are 19 or 91 or younger or older, a certain level of respect for rules is required to participate here. If by some chance you aren't yet 18 it's extremely important to not drop any hints about your age for your own protection). Young adults generally learn to change behavior faster than older people, so I have real hope that this editor may be fully-un-blocked and not banned from any topic area by this time next year, but ONLY IF the editor is serious about learning to work within an established collaborative project that has long-established practices and has or develops the maturity to do so. TL;DNR: I have hope for this editor. Maybe in 2021, maybe not until 2022 or later, but I have hope. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:51, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Kirby Howell-Baptiste.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Kirby Howell-Baptiste.jpg, which you've attributed to https://5b0988e595225.cdn.sohucs.com/images/20191018/353e899147814f4d9e741ff0041fe905.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.   Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Whoami and Hello, Elliot, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. -- /Alex/21 00:42, 20 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
