Your question on talk:Black hole

edit

You (inadvertently?) placed the following question in the middle of a thread on the black hole talk page. Since it does not seem the directly pertain to the content of the article so I moved it here. In the future please place new questions/threads at the bottom of any talk page. Thanks.

Why are black holes "hot"? Shouldn't it be very cold around a black hole? --BrandiAlwaysSmiles (talk) 18:31, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

To answer your question. Black holes typically are not "hot" (other than as a research topic:)). The only exception to this would be tiny micro black holes which can have very high Hawking temperatures. Some black holes are accompanied by accretion disks through friction these disks convert gravitational energy into thermal energy. As such, these disks can become very hot, allowing us to seem them. But it is not the black hole itself that is hot. Hope this answers your question. TimothyRias (talk) 18:53, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
