Wikimedia Commons
editI noticed the NYC photos that you have uploaded. Thanks for uploading them. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Wikimedia Commons, which is a repository for images and other media files. Images can be uploaded there, where they can be categorized (e.g. New York, New York), and found more easily for use in Wikipedia (this English version, as well as other languages). When you upload images in the future, please consider uploading them to Commons instead of directly to Wikipedia so we can keep them organized better. Thanks. -Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 04:00, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- Also, please keep in mind that all images uploaded to Commons must have a free license (GNU, Creative Commons, Public domain). The same is generally also true for Wikipedia, itself, with rare exceptions for fair use images. Photos taken by yourself meet these guidelines, however images taken from other websites are generally copyrighted and not allowed on Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details. Thanks. -Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 04:06, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
'Wall Street" photo
editHi. Regarding Image:Wallst.jpg, this photo is of Nassau street and Broad street. I have removed it from the Wall Street article. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 12:06, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Talk page etiquette
editI noticed you deleted comments left by other users. Please check out the guidelines on Wikipedia:Talk_page. If you feel your talk page is getting too long, you may archive the talk page. However, you're generally not supposed to simply delete comments left by others, especially without responding to them. You can leave a response here on your talk page, as other editors will usually check back here and look for your response. See Help:Contents for information on other policies, guidelines, and other useful information. Thanks. -Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 19:08, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Image use
editHi. I noticed some problems with some of the images you have uploaded and placed into articles. Let me outline the several issues.
- Images that you have not taken yourself require source information. For example, Image:Soltorch.jpg has information on its license, but it does not say where the image came from. Without this information, there is no way to verify that the license is correct. The original URL should be sufficient in most cases.
- Only images that are Works of the United States Government (federal government) are automaticly in the public domain. Images like Image:Libeskindwtc.jpg and Image:Memorialfountain.jpg are not made by the federal government. Please do not use the {{PD-USGov}} tag without merit.
- When you place images in articles, please do so without removing existing images from the article. You replaced images in Wall Street with Image:Wallst.jpg and in United States Air Force Academy with Image:Chapelclose.jpg. Removing existing images is unnecessary unless the previous image had some kind of problem.
I will be looking at the images you have uploaded to try to correct some of these problems. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 21:57, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Ellisisland.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Ellisisland.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. -SCEhardT 04:40, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Jeff3.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Jeff3.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:06, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Possibly unfree Image:World Trade Center Sphere in Battery Park.JPG
editImage:Columbuscirclenight.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Columbuscirclenight.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ccwaters 17:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi. When you uploaded Image:Ellisisland.jpg, you did not specify complete source and copyright information. Another user subsequently tagged it with {{GFDL-presumed}} and, for some time, it has existed on Wikipedia under the assumption that you created the image and you agreed to license it under the GFDL. This assumption, however well-meaning, is not legally sufficient and the tag is being phased out. Images using it are being deleted.
This image has been tagged for deletion and will be deleted in one week if adequate copyright information is not provided.
If you, personally, are the author of this content, meaning that you took the photograph yourself or you created the chart yourself (and it does not use any clipart that you did not create), please retag the image with a free image copyright tag that correctly describes your licensing intentions, usually {{GFDL-self}} or {{PD-self}}. Please also make sure if you have not already done so that you write a good description of what the image depicts, when you took the photo, and other important details. This will allow Wikipedia to continue using the image.
If you did not create the image or if it is derived from the copyrighted works of others, please keep in mind that most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not suitable for use on Wikipedia. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others and does not use images unless we know that they have been freely licensed. Any creative work is automatically copyrighted, even if it lacks a copyright notice. Unless the copyright holder has specifically disclaimed their rights to the image and released it under the GFDL or another compatible license, we cannot use it. If you did not create the image, and cannot make the image compliant with Wikipedia:Non-free content, simply do nothing and it will be deleted in a week. All other non-free images must follow these rules.
Please feel free to contact me on my talk page or leave a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions with any questions you may have. Thank you. Aksibot 21:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:United93.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:United93.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:48, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

NowCommons: Image:Trump int.jpg
editImage:Trump int.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Trump int1.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Trump int1.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
