editHi Bavic1: Great to see you aboard - looking forward to working with you on this adventure. Oishiisou (talk) 20:02, 7 July 2011 (UTC) |
Hi Bavic1 - thanks for the bubble tea from Chinatown! Now I'm nostalgic for Victoria, which I lived in way back in the 80s. Hey, I see that you figured out whatever the issue was with your userboxes. Looks like there's all kinds of html-ish formatting code you can get into to control that sort of thing but I haven't really delved into it yet - mine just happened to line up in rows. Was trying to format the text beside my boxes but failed - may try to figure that out this weekend after I write the paper that's due Monday. Oishiisou (talk) 23:07, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
A cup of coffee for you!
editWelcome aboard Bavic1. Have fun! Ggow (talk) 17:44, 11 July 2011 (UTC) |
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Vanisle map.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Vanisle map.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 00:13, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Same kind of messages I'm getting!!!--Ncsjfreed (talk) 23:35, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- I went ahead and added a Summary section and changed the image name to File:Vancouver Island map.jpg. Just go into the edit mode on the page and make sure to fill out all the blanks. It's important to indicate your source (website URL), author (who created the image), date created, and licensing permission of the image. I entered in cc-by-sa-3.0, but you'll have to correct it to reflect the licensing under which the image is released. I'm here, so let me know if you need help. Cind.amuse 23:55, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Cindamuse, thanks for coming to the rescue. I admit ignorance here on proper protocol. I literally did a google image search for Vancouver Island and found this image - is this a legitimate practice? For photos or images, would you recommend using a site like istockphoto and use a royalty free image? Otherwise, how would one go about requesting licensing permission? In this case, the source is http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.victorialodging.com/files/vancouver-island-map-bc.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.victorialodging.com/vancouver-island-bc&usg=__zFpFc9IT7IEC1QGQndRK6ryZzFc=&h=454&w=550&sz=41&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=5eswAQbgD3PdeM:&tbnh=139&tbnw=153&ei=lVgmTq7lJ43RiALbh7CMCg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dvancouver%2Bisland%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D619%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=690&vpy=123&dur=1061&hovh=204&hovw=247&tx=131&ty=145&page=1&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0&biw=1280&bih=619 but not sure where I would go from here to acquire permission? Thanks for your help.
- Hey there! Email the B&B at victoria@birdsofafeather.ca and request permission to use the map image at http://www.victorialodging.com/vancouver-island-bc. Here is a sample letter that you can use in your request: Wikipedia:Example_requests_for_permission#Informal_.28images.29. Here is a link with information of what to do after you receive permission. Wikipedia:Image_permission#When_permission_is_confirmed. If the image is deleted before receiving permission, don't stress, since you can always upload it, along with confirmation of permission. As far as image use in general, we always have to make sure that copyrighted images and content are only used with permission. Here are a couple links with more information: Image use policy and Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. As always, let me know if you need help. Cind.amuse 05:00, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Vancouver Island map.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Vancouver Island map.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Article review and assessment
editIt has come to the attention of several Ambassadors and mentors that some students are attempting to participate in reviewing and assessing articles, primarily for Good Article status or in attempts to review the work of their classmates. Others are offering second opinions to the review being performed by other editors. Unrequested second opinions oftentimes lead to disputes. While the enthusiasm and initiative is admirable, it is actually inappropriate for new or inexperienced editors to review or assess articles in any capacity. The Good Article process, review, and assessment requires thorough understanding of the project's policies and guidelines, specifically pertaining to the Manual of Style, verifiability, neutral point of view, and the ability to accurately identify copyright violations, reliable sources, and topical, as well as general notability guidelines. With all sincerity, please do not attempt to review or assess any articles. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me either on my talk page or through email. DYK for Marcomannia
editOn 16 August 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Marcomannia, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that Marcus Aurelius wanted to create a new Roman province called Marcomannia in what is now Slovakia? If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
