/* Nacotchtanck was a mistake. I suggest changing the name of this entry to "Anacostan" */ new section

edit

I'm the Director of the DC Native History Project (http://onceasitwasdc.org/index.html - note: in the "About" link you can get to the older blog and FB page), and have recently put together some observations about the origins of the Anacostan name - which seems to be a mistake made by Smith's mapmakers, but it gets frequently perpetuated since it sits in such a prominent place. Details here: http://nativevillagemarker.blogspot.com/2022/02/the-name-of-dcs-native-tribe-how.html  Quick points: The map says "Nacotchtanck" (with a "ck" at the end). That spelling isn't included on this wiki page. Father Andrew White didn't "anglicize" the name, he had studied the Piscataway language and corrected it. Details and references are in the blogspot link.

I've done a little editing on wiki, but I don't know where to start with all this. Thanks! Armand
